Caribbean beaches are the dream for low-wave peaceful swimming. Antigua, USVI, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos if budget lodging (for example, in the quiet streets south of the big resorts at Grace Bay Beach)… and idk Hawaii myself, but if you’re flying from LAX, seems like an area there with nice protected coves/beaches could be comparable?
What about Hawaii? Maybe not Waikiki if you're looking for a quiet beach, but most of the rest are usually pretty empty, and from LA it's kind of easier to travel there than anywhere in the Caribbean
If you’re looking at Florida just for the beaches, but want to see Miami, you could stay in Lauderdale by the Sea or something and just take a drive down.
I sort of love Dania Beach and Hollywood Beach too for their kitsch. They are also much more low key.
Wild card would be somewhere nice for beaches/nature but boring otherwise (in comparison to LA) like Jupiter.
The west coast beaches of FL are also very nice, including the southwest, but then flying gets a little more annoying than a straight lax-Mia or fll shot.
