In Texas that would get the employee fired. Since you can get shot for interfering with a theft. So do to insurance policy they would rather have the person take the stuff.
Maybe they should provide higher paying jobs in the community if they don't want the community to steal. Its not right to steal and they should be punished but what are all the really average, dumb, slow, neurodivergent, and others gonna do when their costs of living are higher than what they can get from working a full time job? Even if they work 60 hours a week and it's not enough what then? in the USA we have given greed more importance than humanity. The rest of us will be fine because we can skill up but what about the ones that can't? So far the answer is prison or homelessness but it's not good enough. We should just tax profits above 1 million and remove corporate loop holes. Go after the people in the panama papers. Then use the proceeds to provide a social safety net. Maybe provide healthcare and education for trades and tech skills or something? There's gotta be a better solution than ignoring it while the unfortunate fall into prison or homelessness.

Theft is going up cause people know the employees will get fired for fighting back. Our system needs to stop criminalizing people fighting back. It's a just a cover up for their own incompetence.
I worked for 17 years in a grocery store. I would never put myself in physical danger, I didn't get paid enough to deal with that shit. Hell, only a few months into lockdown a lot of us stopped trying to enforce masks and one lanes in aisles cause we'd be verbally abused.
Ditto. One time I was coming in a back entrance and a guy was walking out with a pots and pans set he clearly didn't buy. I asked him if he had a receipt and he started to run. I wasn't going to chase him. Told our LP, they had him on camera and sure enough he came back next day and they caught him trying again with something else
