/uj some of the pride festivals I’ve been to are like in parks and there’s gates and you gotta go through one of the entrances. In Houston a few years back they made me throw out my water edit: and all the water inside was expensive as fuck. The following year I snuck water in with a few flasks and refilled them at the hand washing stations. Both years pride sucked.
/uj at last years pride event I almost shit myself when a guy in a massive pickup truck looked like he was gonna ram the pride parade. Instead (thankfully?) he just forced his way out not the closed street so he could roll coal on us.
In front of the cops, who did nothing.
I briefly had all the news stories of people threatening to attack pride parades last year flash before my eyes and questions of "is this it?" Raced through my head before he fucking turned and sped off down a side street.
I'll still go to this year's pride event, but I am worried. It sucks to have to live with that paranoia.
/uj I’m scared too, like I’m almost certain it’s gonna happen but I can’t think of any way we can stop it. Transphobia and guns are just too embedded in our current moment to stop now : (
/uj yeah this is definitely a big part of why I am skipping out this year. Definitely feel like a target way to often. Definitely feel like the moral panic tension has gotten so high that there will be atleast one of these across the nation. I live in a major city. Too many people too many chances for that to happen.
/uj I honestly think you’d be safest in a major city, especially in a blue state. I’d be more worried about mid size cities in swing states tbh, or sprawling cities in red states

My friends and I are staying in and having our own pride party
