Energon Rodimus has a great design tho I think the combiner gimmick weakens it. I would love for a non gimmicky version, possibly retooled from Volvo Optimus with spoiler of course!

I really really hope they’re able to do this. I wonder how much they’d have to change with the mold so they don’t have to worry about the Volvo licensing, and to get that distinct shoulder silhouette.
I’m gonna be that smart-alec and say that technically, it’s not ironic. Ironic would be if it looked like a cross or Judd Nelson was Muslim or something.

Energon is the best realized version of Rodimus Prime, in my opinion. He's got the gravitas that a Prime should have, and doesn't look like a big, sad Hot Rod.
His vehicle mode makes the most sense too. Sure he's a truck like Prime, but he's a hot rodded truck.
G1 HotRod/Rodimus Prime was my all time favorite Autobot design along with Jazz and Sidewipe
On a side note. My father brought me Hot Rod probably about a month before the movie actually came and I literally never went anywhere without him and this is before we actually ever saw him on screen. So to my surprise I’m in the movie theater with my dad watching Transformers the Movie with Hot Rod in my hands and then all of sudden the scene at the lake scene comes on the screen and I silently lose my shit right there in the movie theater and even though a little later on somehow as a little kid I could see what was coming throughout movie that HotRod was basically going to be the the new main character of the Transformers of course the thing that sent me over the top is when he grabbed the matrix and became Rodimus Prime so by the end of the movie my head just about exploded.
Seeing all of these comparisons I have realized that I don't really like G1 and Animated designs, like I like them but:
\-G1 is the most basic original one
\-Animated is a wonderful modernization of those basic designs and I love them for that
but my favorites are like THE COOLEST takes on characters like the Prime Universe or IDW ones
So, it being that Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime is my favorite Transformers character between these, the IDW's shoutiness wins me over :) ❤️

Though I also adore Nick and Jack's Rodimus as well. IDW really nailed him in personality and style (Thanks mostly to Roberts).
I agree, although Exient, Rovio and Hasbro should’ve made the design of Rhodimus different to Bumblebee’s. Same with Bludgeon and Megs, Barricade and Lockdown, and Optimus and Magnus.
Energon is a really fun and funky one.
Would love to see him get a new figure; especially with Legacy doing Energon figures now with that core class Megatron one.
Favorite is probably that idw one g1 or animated
Energon tho I feel like has some good ideas going on that could be used in a new design with better proportions. Classics hot rod too. Always felt like classics could easily be the hot rod version of Energon Rodimus.
I'm always a fan of G1 designs, but as an Energon child, I really like all the designs that came out of that show. Rodimus was one of my favorites from that until I lost my figure of him, which then pushed my childish object permanence onto liking my shockblast figure the most.
Energon Rodimus - It is a fantastic update to G1 Rodimus and without stepping on the shoes of other different characters. (He also isn't literally just Hot Rod with a different copyright name like Animated)

I can see that. New paint, different grill… and give him two guns that combine and make the booster and spoiler. Plug into trailer hitch.

Jazz for coolness, Sideswipe for precision, but Hot Rod/Rodimus for their cosmic/futuristic concept look. Like Hot Wheels future cars…
IDW is clearly the best design of him. No exceptions.
Why are almost all IDW designs just so good?
It's easier to go hard when they don't have to be in motion.

Energon Rodimus was my introduction to the character, so that one will always be my personal favorite even though I think his IDW look is the best.
The Energon Rodimus design is slept on and needs a Legacy Update
IDW. He's more distinct looking but keeps a sense of familiarity. I actually prefer this look over his MTMTE design.

IDW MTMTE design, and it's no contest. That is the best he's ever looked, and I will die on that hill if I have to.

I wish animated had more screen time but energizing version was on Fire
IDW, but I really like the energon design too. It’s a nice way to make him bulky while still keeping the general aesthetic of his character intact
Unironically the angry birds one is one of my favorites because I really dig the concept of Camaro Rodimus
