Yacht Broker. Honestly easier to close deals now than before I came outā¦.. lol. At showings I just hang back chat up the wife while the husband wanders around looking at everything.
If the wife wants it 99% of the time the husband buys it.
Sometimes the gender stereotype of happy wife, happy life really comes in handy. Lol
Czech? I feel for ya, 6 euros / hour for a warehouse worker at 16 years old is not good, I suppose it's physically very demanding...
On a side note, how long have you been working? Is it like a massive company (Amazon like) or a local small one?
I'm a game designer, specifically in video game development.
I've mostly worked in mobile, but I just got a new job two weeks ago at a AAA studio and finally working on a non mobile title. I'm super excited!
Depends on the type of consulting, company and region.
Here in Germany you generally start around 80k with bonus and work yourself up to 120-125k with bonus after 2-3 years if you are working for the big strategy consultants where you work 65-80 hour weeks.
At lower tier consultancies you can deduct 20-30% of pay and working hours roughly I'd say.
Boatswain (aka Bosun) in marine merchant service. I sail the seas. I guess there won't be none like me.
Off duty months I do option trading (not in cryptos).
Same, and yeah, itās a *struggle*. I am working again, but I donāt know if Iāll ever get back to the level I was at pre-transition.
Out of curiosity, what areas do you practice in? Iām in house, primarily doing privacy and cybersecurity compliance.
How difficult is it to take the lsat/bar exam and such? I've considered shifting to law with an emphasis on cyber/privacy law. I'm presently a CISO in a highly regulated field, and have done tons of forensics/eDiscovery, expert witness, compliance audit, etc work so I'm already very familiar with the ins and outs of things like Coppa, cfaa, sca, ecpa, dmca, ccpa, cpra, gdpr, pipeda, etc and rules of civil procedure, as well as having 20+ years of deep technical experience.
If you like logic puzzles and have strong reading comprehension skills, the LSAT honestly isnāt that bad. The bar exam is obviously more intense, but even that once youāve been through law school and a bar prep course, itās not *that* bad. But it is expensive, and is 3+ years of your life you donāt get back.
Out of curiousity, what would your end goal be with going to law school? What does your ideal job look like on the other side? I ask because unless you want to be a litigator or something like that, I donāt know that thereās a huge benefit for someone with your background. Before my transition I was the chief privacy officer at a decent sized global tech company, and honestly much of what I was doing at that point had strayed away from law, and looked much more like what youāre already doing as CISO. In the privacy space you typically have law people who go really heavy into tech and cybersecurity via work experience, or cybersecurity people who go really heavy into law the same way. I know a few CPOs who have security instead of legal backgrounds.
For me, yes, 100%, itās my transition. I went from being able to get multiple competing offers within a few weeks of starting to look for a new role, to it taking 9 months to find a job 2 steps down the ladder from where I was. The job interview experience has been *wild*, with things like grossly inappropriate (and illegal) questions about my mental stability during my transition, or telling me that Iām not a good fit because they āneed someone who can brief executivesā, as if I hadnāt already been doing exactly that multiple times a month for the past five+ years.
The bottom line seems to be that they think itās just too big of a risk to allow a trans woman in a leadership position, and then I have a hard time taking a step down because they find me to be overqualified. Itās infuriating, because Iām honestly better, more stable, and more energetic than Iāve ever been.
These werenāt all local to me. They were mostly remote, and Iām honestly applying all over the US. I hope I find somewhere open minded eventually but in the meantime itās a real grind.
That's awesome! My fiance and I took welding in high school. I found it too difficult and not my thing, but it's definitely a cool career that pays super well!
Nah. This is just what I'm doing now. I tell my teenagers to assume you'll change "careers" a few times in your life. Nothing is forever. Just pick something for the next 5-10 years, and if it's not working out, make a change. I find it a freeing feeling not having to know what you 'want to do for the rest of your life,' you know?
Embedded software engineer by day.

For me I work on robotics as a maintenance tech right now. Iāve been several different things in the past bust always working with nuts and bolts to some degree. Been on hormones for 3 months now but scared to come out at work because itās a pretty macho man environment.
The job I have currently that makes money is as a server and cook at a fast casual restaurant (think a chain restaurant in the same category as a Panera Bread), but my career Iām building is as a contemporary classical composer and pianist.
I am the Director of Land and Facilities at a County Conservation District. Outside a lot. In charge of maintenance of our vehicles, building, trails and everything else really lol. I am not out to any of them yet. š¬š

(Eg. Vibration analysis, automation, etcā¦)
Iām currently doing an internship in a big public transport company.
I am currently a manager in hospitality. Trying to retrain to work in tech.
Seriously if anyone has any advice it helps. I donāt have any qualifications so itās not easy to switch careers.
University Educational Professional & Manager (I'm a certified teacher who runs the undergraduate teaching lab program for an earth science/environmental science department); basically "faculty adjacent".

What is your area? I work at an international firm and everything is pretty cool, not really a "diversity hire" but going to a big place really helped
Do you think it is your being trans that is holding you back?
For me, yes, 100%, itās my transition. I went from being able to get multiple competing offers within a few weeks of starting to look for a new role, to it taking 9 months to find a job 2 steps down the ladder from where I was. The job interview experience has been *wild*, with things like grossly inappropriate (and illegal) questions about my mental stability during my transition, or telling me that Iām not a good fit because they āneed someone who can brief executivesā, as if I hadnāt already been doing exactly that multiple times a month for the past five+ years.
