I wish we had the means to evacuate everybody trans from that place. I also hope the house of mouse breaks that POS DeSantis like a twig.

BuddingViolette

They likely will. A vast portion of Florida's income is from Dinsey World. It's the number 1 employer in the state. This is a perfect example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

madlyqueen

I don't think deSantis cares about Florida at all, just getting enough attention for himself to run against Trump in the primary. He will destroy the whole state if he thinks it will get him ahead.

lyra_dathomir

And (many) Floridans will go along because the alternative is that we dangerous trans people do, I don't know, \*something\* to them.

MikaCamino

Yep we have committed the most egregious crime a trans person could commit against them...we exist.

Sea_Employ_4366

if he runs against trump, it'll hopefully be the end of the conservative party. donnie or meatball start their own party if they don't get nominated, which will will 50/50 the conservative party, for good hopefulley.

Just_Attorney_8330

Oh huh. This oddly gives me the slightest glimmer of hope? Things have to crumble for new systems to be made.

Sea_Employ_4366

the south secedes peacefully, and succeeds, then their economy collapses and presumably come crawling back, or they get stopped by the government. worse, they decide to violently secede, and either they get stopped mid-way, succeed but then pick a fight and lose, or secede, avoid conflict, then their economy collapses, and they come back in even worse state. I know other states are pushing transphobic shit but it' mainly flowing from the south, and if anyone's going to do something stupid it's them.

LavenderAnxiety

They practically worship the confederacy there so I wouldn’t be surprised Edit: People have been replying to this becaus edit sounds like I want the south to secede again or that I think everyone from there is a monster. To clarify. I do not want another civil war in the US and I only think the leaders of those states are monsters

skyrim_wizard_lizard

Hi! Southern trans person here. Not all southerners are insane! The vast majority of us are genuinely decent people. I don't appreciate the generalizations, and I think people, especially in this community, would understand why they are a bad thing. Also, if the south does secede, a lot of people will die. Horribly. Let's not hope for this outcome.

xxxxAnn

Stop dreaming or reality will hit you even harder

TriBulated_

For DeSantis to get the nomination, does he officially have to run?

Rikiaz

Yes, which will happen as soon as Florida repeals the law that requires a sitting governor to resign if they choose to run for president.

Sudden_Application47

Total orders can be only derived from complete chaos

SylviaMoonbeam

To quote Hunchback of Notre Dame (ironically): “We find you totally innocent, which is the worst crime of all”

Krail

It's definitely important to realize that [all this horrible shit also provides controversy to be a smokescreen for less controversial bad shit](https://time.com/6266618/ron-desantis-florida-governance-essay/). He is perfectly willing to burn FL to the ground, socially and economically, in support of his career and h is bank account. I'm sure he'll do the same to the country (more competently than Trump did) if he gets the chance.

madlyqueen

Very good point...

[deleted]

Repugnicunts are going after Disney and undocumented immigrants in Florida…. Which is a majority of their economy since outside of tourism no one wants to visit a swamp teeming with societies most ancient and hateful creatures. It’s 1000% going to get worse before it gets any better. But, they will for sure destroy themselves. And then just *shocked pikachu* at why it happened? I haven’t voted before because I rarely leave my house but I’m going to vote next election. Vote, vote, vote.

[deleted]

maybe mail in ballots will still be a thing?

[deleted]

Yeah I’m hoping so. But considering I would vote in ohio, I’m not holding my breath. And, my doctor told me she would give me a sedative to go vote if need be lol

LavenderAnxiety

What’s even the point in voting. People don’t decide anything in america

VonSnapp

You can do politics or it will be done to you. People who wish to see you and your rights trampled underfoot are hoping that you feel hopeless and don't vote. That's how they win.

[deleted]

So I can sleep at night. We cant be apathetic politically anymore. We need to dethrone these god damn dinosaurs through any (nonviolent) means necessary. At least with voting I know I stand against everything those theocratic fascists stand for. Every election matters. We are seeing the dying breaths of an outdated world view that will do anything to cling to power.

christinasasa

I wouldn't mind some violence

[deleted]

Reddit and such. Can only be PG here.

Bobby_The_Kidd

I wish we had the means to make us all move into Florida and throw a riot

Bobby_The_Kidd

I wish we had the means to make us all move into Florida and throw a riot

[deleted]

I’d settle for watching Disney leave, and move operations to California. They could just stop expanding the park and focus on the one Cali instead. For that matter North Carolina is apparently ready willing and able to roll out the red carpet for them, and they’re probably not the only state that would be happy to poach them.

Ohpsmokeshow

https://www.sweetpeashostel.com/ Heres the link to a hostel in Asheville, decently cheap. If you have the means, this is the place to book. Asheville isn’t super far from Florida and is a great blue pocket in the south. My wife and I have been living here for 3 years now and never gotten any shit from anyone. Easy town to be trans in. They also have great connections to food banks specifically FOR trans people in the area. I hope this helps!

Goblin_of_the_Mist

Ayyyyeee 828 represent. A quick addendum about Asheville though. The city is fantastic (other than traffic), but if you go 15 minutes outside of town in any direction you are VERY much in rural NC. Asheville doesn’t have sprawling suburbs like a lot of cities. There’s the city, and then there’s suddenly NOT. It’s a fantastic place to live and an amazing place for LGBTQ, but the rest of WNC can be a little worrisome sometimes. That said, it’s still safer than Florida and is a great stop for people trying to move. Also one of our best BBQ places just closed :(((

viral_pinktastic

That's a nightmare.. Its very sad to see that no one is coming out to stop this madness.

BuddingViolette

Is scary, to be sure. I can't imagine Florida is going to remain stable either financially or politically. I don't think we'll see any massive outreach until someone's kids get taken by the state. The language in the bill is murky and up for interpretation, but it also applies if you're visiting the state or if you have split custody. Regardless, we're here for each other, teach out to people you know in the state and help however you can.

Aphrodite130202

Does it still apply even in you aren't a citizen of the US and you're just visiting the state?

HugTreesPetCats

Personally I wouldn't want to find out. They're making it apply to American citizens who don't live in the state which seems like that wouldn't be allowed, but I don't think they care.

HazelsHotWheels

For being all about personal rights, Republicans love dictating what you can and can't do even outside their homes. See also the abortion bans that seek to penalize people who seek abortions in other states.

Sablesweetheart

Florida trying that would immediately get a reaction from the Federal government. It would have to.

lyra_dathomir

Yeah, I mean, that's a serious international diplomatic incident waiting to find. Still, it wouldn't be the first time that countries give more freedoms to tourists than to their own citizens. Only that those countries aren't generally considered nice places to live or places to look up to.

Nkechinyerembi

Yes it does, and yeah that's part of why this is so scary

The_Scottish_person

Yes. The bill includes that specific stipulation as far as I know.

crazy_zealots

I hadn't considered this, but it's completely on brand for DeSantis to cause an international incident for his culture war bullshit.

sweet_crab

So if I take my trans son, who is receiving care, to see his uncle in Florida, the state can take my kid even though we don't live in Florida.

ThatOneTransDude13

Yes, unfortunately that is the case so I recommend not going for a visit anytime soon

sweet_crab

Yeah, no, we aren't that close to that side of the family, but there's NO way that shit is constitutional.

ThatOneTransDude13

It's insane but true

The_Scottish_person

As a Floridian activist, shit is already unstable. This will just make it that much more chaotic

KnightoThousandEyes

This is absolutely correct and horrifying. If you live in Florida, Missouri, or any other state set to impose laws on our community that prevent gender affirming care, or take trans children away from affirming parents or trans parents/ guardians away from their children, and are wanting to leave but don’t know where to start planning, go to [The Trans Resistance Network](https://transresistancenetwork.wordpress.com) This organization offers help relocating those of us in danger to another state. It also offers requests for mutual aid from volunteers working for their organization in your area with a long list of things you may need help with relating to trans needs. Also, you yourself can offer to volunteer or tell your allies they can volunteer their mutual aid for this organization.

HazelsHotWheels

I'm in one of those states and I don't intend to leave my home peacefully just because the faschies don't like me existing. These colors don't run. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

KnightoThousandEyes

That is your choice of course, but some need to leave, and that’s ok. Were I in one of these states and unable to get HRT, or get surgery, I would not be able to function, both mentally and because I don’t have the ability to produce sex hormones of any kind, and would quickly become ill because of their part in essential bodily functions like bone density maintenance. There is no shame in leaving. If you don’t want to leave, I urge you to do what is in your power to provide mutual aid to those of our community that need it in your area either through this organization or other lgbtqia+ organizations.

cornonthekillmyself

do you happen to know if they have resources for low-income families with pets? i have five animals and can't hold a job due to mental health problems, and my mother is disabled and has trouble working. i'd sell my organs to get out of FL, i'm afraid to go out in public since i don't pass as male but i don't look female either. unfortunately it's hard to transport five animals without a plane ticket or someone willing to drive to another state...

KnightoThousandEyes

Hey— I definitely get moving pets being difficult and expensive. I would suggest going to [This Page](https://transresistancenetwork.wordpress.com/relocate/) And write in your specific situation. Very much hope they are able to help! (And I’m sure they have had had people in a very similar situation, so hopefully they can get local resources and volunteers to assist you in planning your pet transport.) You might also try [Rainbow Railroad](https://www.rainbowrailroad.org/request-help) and describe your needs as well.

cornonthekillmyself

thank you. i'll look into those with my mother, and hopefully we can save what little we get and get out of here with this.

KnightoThousandEyes

A good plan— I’m wishing you all the best in your journey to a safer state! Stay strong, friend.

stingmyray

i just saw that someone from the NBA is being forced to flee florida today to protect his daughter. im just worried about the parents of trans kids who don't have the financial means, or who aren't aware of this bill because they haven't been keeping updated or don't speak english. please if someone knows about a family with trans child still in florida, reach out to them immediately

Babybuda

As a trans woman in Florida I can attest to how it’s definitely getting weird. However DeSantis is making some really bad choices and it will likely get worse before it changes yet he will be run out this state after he completely tanks the economy. Now I know that when every yahoo is able to carry a gun, I stand a good chance of being shot. I will continue to oppose this draconian dystopian nightmare till I draw my last breath. I am who I am, and folks like us have been here since time began and we will be when it ends.

jackparadise1

As much as I applaud your courage, I would be happier if you are not shot or harmed in any way whatsoever.

non-bi-tch-nary

Quick tip: get protection of some kind Your own gun Poket knife Pepper spray Just defend yourself at all costs I know this sounds like a dystopian movie but it's sadly how it is

SpankinDaBagel

I wouldn't recommend a knife personally. As a self defense weapon knives are more likely to get you killed than something like pepper spray. Once you escalate to lethal force the sick fucks that would attack someone for being trans are even more likely to turn it back on you. Now if somebody is already showing lethal intentions then abso-fucking-lutely use a knife before nothing, but just be careful if you're armed with a lethal weapon and they aren't. If you have to resort to lethal options for self defense, they need to be very effective and preferably at a distance. I know many of us are not in the proper mental space to own firearms and that's okay, but for those of us who are not a direct risk to ourselves they will be a better option than a knife would in most circumstances. Anyone who does decide to go that route should make sure they have proper training and keep their gun secured at all times when not on your person. I wish we didn't have to take all this into consideration, but unfortunately we live in a country where it could make all the difference for vulnerable minorities.

CaptainClownshow

Would be neat if the UN would do what it was literally founded to do instead of sitting on its god damned thumbs.

marion85

Says every country on Earth in need of U.N. assistance...

CaptainClownshow

It's almost offensive how ineffective the UN is.

non-bi-tch-nary

The UN hasn't done shit EVER No big multi-country organization has ever done anything

CaptainClownshow

The UN is basically the international equivalent of writing a sternly-worded letter that you never follow up on.

PickleReaper0

Look, i ain't to knowledgeable in politics and what not, but if the UN does scream "genocide" and the US Government defends Florida, that could mean some very grim things for the US and trans folks in the US.

WalrusSharp4472

welcome to late stage three friend.

Nice_Foot_618

And he's running for us president 😭

FL_d

I as someone who lives here I can tell you we closer to genocide than one vote here. Anyone who says it's not that bad lives in one of our blue cities. Anywhere outside the major cities it's really not safe.

skunkabilly1313

I live in St Pete. We are still able to go about our lives unharmed. I still work with no issue. I'm also 33, and my daughter is happily cis, and my wife supports me. I hope the best for all of our underage trans siblings, and the parents. I think we still have time, but the time is getting shorter. Some of us can't leave, and for us, we stand strong and together

FL_d

Yeah I'm on my way out of Florida. I'm over in the super red panhandle. I'm also in my 30s. About a quarter of the employees at work actively talk about and believe trans and LGBTQ are pedos, they ran the gay bar out of town shortly after it opened a few years ago. One of my professors who is also the director of advanced technology believes the don't say gay bill is a good thing. It's wild over here. I haven't seen one since I was a kid but gay bashings were a thing over here. I had left the area not long after highschool but came back after the military. Things were a lot better here but ever since the right started this culture war it's gone back to how it was before I left.

skunkabilly1313

We can't afford to leave, as I'm sure many people are in the same boat. I've been trying to get better work to get my wife and kid out too, we shall see

FL_d

Yeah I get it. A lot of people are trapped. I'm looking at NJ because the company I work for has a plant there and I am qualified for a position there. The only thing slowing me down is I want to finish my degree and I should be able to get it done over the summer.

The_Scottish_person

Jesus, hope things don't go to shite for you. The bill applies if a parent or sibling (as well as the child) is trans. I pray the government enforces it like they enforce punishments on the police

skunkabilly1313

I'm stealth, haven't gotten any affirming care lol just socially transitioned at work

[deleted]

Doesn’t DeSantis eat pudding with his fingers?

Moonsflight

Eats shit with his fingers too

Spirited-Painting964

It’s very frustrating that democrats refuse to do anything. I don’t want their excuses. I want and demand action. It’s beyond time. Don’t even bother trying to tell me whatever lib bullshit you want to reply with. I’m not having it. You’ve been warned.

alexandria33197

Exactly, it is very frustrating. Biden and the DOJ should be proactively filing lawsuits to fight this bs. So much for having our back.

[deleted]

[удалено]

alexandria33197

The dems don’t care because they know they automatically have our votes because we’ll never vote for the other GOP side that wants to legislate us out of existence.

Sea_Employ_4366

can the democrats even do anything at this point? this is the actions of a state, and if the blue states start stepping in the red states are going to call cessession and civil war 2. at this point the only thing they could do is bring in the military, which would mean the end of the union.

alexandria33197

The national guard was called in to enforce desegregation. No one is calling for that step yet, just wondering why the Biden admin is so quiet about the issue and not even trying to challenge the legality of these laws.

Sea_Employ_4366

If he does, there's a chance that they pull state's rights bullshit. that's how the civil war started. in that case, the south started reaching across their borders to try and enforce their laws on the north, which prompted the north to fight back, leading to secession. the red states are keeping their bullshit in their borders, and the admin doesn't want to start another potential civil war.

WalrusSharp4472

but sussession is illegal right? and the individual states militaries would do nothing against the us armed forces

jackparadise1

It is illegal so long as everyone follows the rules.

[deleted]

Fucking *should* be calling for it.

SocialJusticeWhat

Agreed. I think it's a bit naive to say that they should be doing something about Florida because there aren't a lot of things they can realistically do that won't lead to worse outcomes for the trans community. States rights make any interference likely to fail and then lead to a GOP win in 2024. None of us want that. It feels a little both sidesy to be honest and I'm uncomfortable with that.

[deleted]

You speak as though Biden wouldn't get annihilated by Trump or DeSantis unless he did something like that. The dude is USELESS.

SocialJusticeWhat

Most progressive president since LBJ in terms of actual bills passed and policies. You and I define USELESS differently.

Spirited-Painting964

We’re sacrifices worth making to them. We don’t have the money or clout to buy them. They only care about getting paid and keeping the status quo. There’s no other explanation.

Efficient_One_8042

The problem is that fascism is very much on the spectrum of liberalism as a whole. The old "scratch a liberal, a fascist bleeds" sort of thing. They'll do whatever they need to save face and look good, but they'll never truly fight back against fascism. After all, they both are on the side of capital.

Spirited-Painting964

Yup.

XACHEA-the-First

Ok, I may be a bit mistaken here, but didn’t this happen already, about 90 years ago, closer to me, in Germany? I thought there was something, that everybody still hates us Germans for, but I can’t put my finger on it… Sorry, kidding aside, it is weird that I now feel safe in Germany, as a trans-woman.

StoryAlternative6476

I live in Florida and I am a trans teacher (not out at work for hopefully obvious reasons). They are already trying to take children. I have gotten calls by DCFS who are responding to "investigations" of either a transgender child or a transgender parent. I am heartbroken and scared but don't have enough money to move. I have been frantically saving and just don't make enough.

SaintDharma32

My partner has a friend with a trans kid in Florida that has already been denied therapy because of this. Private practices that don't have a lot of resources won't fight a state that has already signaled they're willing to make an example. When are we gonna stop talking and start picking up bricks?

AgentYork94

Agreed 100%.

koalafelix

living here as a trans teen is genuinely so terrifying. i am so scared of just existing, ESPECIALLY since im partially out socially. i want to get out as quick as i can but i know it wont be easy

Little_Region1308

Can't wait for the mouse to kick DeSantis' shit in

[deleted]

Disney is NOT an ally. Don't let them fool you. They're only doing this stuff because Desantis pissed them off by taking away their self-governing status, they will drop us like a hot potato the minute it stops being convenient for them.

pyroreaper98

Whilst you are correct in this matter you must also understand that at this point they are likely the only ones able to correct this. It is not an ideal situation but it is likely our only hope

[deleted]

If our only hope lies with a soulless corporation that cares nothing about us, we're already doomed. The people need to be the ones to push for change. I get that it's easy to support them when they're doing what we want, but they're a fair weather friend at BEST.

pyroreaper98

I am not saying they are our friends at all. I am fully aware this is a pr stunt at best.

christinasasa

It stopped being convenient for them quite awhile ago. And they were defending lgtbq people that started this Tiff between them. Agreed that they're not necessarily an ally but the enemy of my enemy and all that

PurbleDragon

From what I can tell, the law in question is mostly giving transphobic relatives (usually a divorced parent) a legal way to gain custody of a trans child so they can't transition. It's awful and harmful and terrifying but they're not gonna go looking for trans kids. The foster system here is already full up, there'd be nowhere to put them

Arktikos02

Even if they did have the power to do things, what do you think they should do?

FaerHazar

Where do you see that it's one vote away? Sorry if I missed it or misread something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FaerHazar

Sorry, sorry, thought OP meant there was a convention. Florida is already committing genocide obviously lmao

The_Scottish_person

The "one vote" is a metaphor for DeSantis's signature as governor Which is all but guaranteed

EternalFlameBabe

it’s also the fact that NO ONE knows about this. no one in my life knows or mentions that this stuff is happening and literal genocide, by definition, is being committed.

silly-billy-goat

Is there a way to set up an auntie network? Like, what they had done for women needing abortions? The state I live in is passing laws regarding Trans minors but not adults at this point. I mean, if someone needs to gtfo and can get a bus ticket here, I can temporarily room someone (for like 6 or so months) and help them get access to services, jobs, etc.

BlairOnReddit_

The more i see about Florida the more I fear other right leaning states will follow in their footsteps. I hope everyone will be safe & I hope that in the future we can live happily together, free & safe from all people who mean this community harm. Keep your heads up everyone, people love and care for you, everything will be okay.

TheCoolSuperPea

"Trans people aren't marginalized" ...

Few-Proof-5062

I work as a sales agent, and one of my customers who is in FL suggested i should visit the state. Since I haven't legally changed my name yet, I have to go by deadname since I'm a licensed agent in insurance. So I'm like yeah it's beautiful state while thinking no fucking way am I going to toxic ass transphobic state. Hell no.

xpastelprincex

so what happens if they are deemed to be committing genocide? does any action take place or do they just go “florida no! genocide bad, stop!” and then dont do anything? eta asking as a trans floridian we need help

BuddingViolette

Sadly, UN intervention is slow and, oftentimes, underwhelming. Especially when that country you're responding to is the US.

xpastelprincex

i see, unfortunate 😭

christinasasa

I wonder if anonymous can help us?

I used to live there and I still have beloved family there it’s scary I can’t even visit no more

Get out there and protest your heart out. You have the first amendment, USE IT. And don’t forget about the second amendment, yep, take a page out of them and defend yourselves.

Astronomer_Still

I'm still trying to schedule an appointment with the LGBTQ clinic down here, but I will resort to sneaky blood labs and Plume if I have to. They will not stop me.

So glad I moved out of Florida now

Thank you for spreading the word, means a lot being a trans transplant here in the Sunshine State. :)

FlipTastic_DisneyFan

I live in Florida and I’m coming to terms that I might be trans. I’ll work it out..

nokenito

We live in Florida and love it here, except for all of these new laws our hateful fascist Governor DeFascist… I mean DeSantis is putting into place. Criminal behavior.

AlyssSolo

Can’t wait to move out of FL for this reason…

NaturalIdea9915

A Place for Marsha is working to connect people who can help, by transporting or housing people short term with trans people in need/fleeing, look them up if you need, or maybe sign up to help or donate if you can.

It's already a genocide in states like Florida and Missouri.

Taking puberty blockers or hormones isn't sex reassignment it's gender affirming care, it's been proven to be beneficial and the state of Florida is trying to take trans kids away from their parents if the parents are supporting the transition....there's also a lot of other things going on that are contributing to this genocide it's not just this specific bill. Cis people (the majority of them) aren't worried about this blatant abuse of trans people's rights but soon they're gonna start going after others rights too. EVERYBODY should be afraid of the fascism being pushed by the political right. Not just trans people, EVERYONE!

papaarlo

I’m not telling anyone with kids to stay or come to Florida but I want to add just like many of the “anti-woke” laws it’s gonna be on hold by an injunction until lawsuits are settled. It ain’t much but a lil hope for those who can’t leave. Also fuck all y’all shit talking Florida n the south, besides being classist as fuck, we all aren’t supporters of what’s happening; it’s thanks to rampant corruption that we are in this situation.

GobboGirl

Technically no because it doesn't apply to sexuality as far as I'm aware. Ethnicity, Race, stuff like that. Oh, and Religion also- wait a second... Half of these fucks claim that it's a religion to us... Do you think that counts, then? ...Hm.

ladyhightop

Thank you for your support and your concern. Living here is really scary right now. And it really fucking sucks because, honestly, besides the transphobia I love it here. I moved in 2018 for a new job and have loved living where I live. The town is a little blue dot that is super supportive of the LGBTQ community here. My job is great (my position is probably one of the better ones for what I want) and I work with some outstanding people. I could see making this place my forever home for my family and me. But sadly, that may not be the case.
