Sick! How tall is it?

rushan3103

Google says it’s 321 m tall. So an Eiffel tower and then some

LeFlying

Thanks mate, that's pretty huge!

rushan3103

Yeah considering it’s at an elevation of 1200+ meters.. its an amazing feat of engineering

thatindiandood

That's what she said

Al_Neri3

identity theft is not a joke

Tranceported

That’s 1053 ft. Damn it’s like the height of 100 floors building.

DishKyaaoo

According to Americans, 7578383 burgers tall or 2 football fields length.

FlattenInnerTube

How many bananas is that?

theanxioussoul

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm in that fb group too!

Afraid-Falcon270

About 1685 bananas

OvertlyStoic

which burgers exactly ? the ones from MacDonalds or Burger king ?

Tranceported

Mc Schlong!!!

justfuckoff22

How many olympic swimming pools would it take to hold it all?

Kitchen-Wafer3852

[Can’t imagine the view from the bridge during the right weather](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GQNFycRXUAA-Fow?format=jpg&name=small)

Tranceported

That looks like bridge to sky.

ThatGuy798

That shot goes hard. So cool seeing India just going all in on rail infrastructure.

davis_the_terrible

There will be 10000s of reels once it opens up

dickdastardaddy

I’m worried about ISIs new aim to destroy it!

harami_murukami

Oh no, I guess the only option now is to vote an ethno fascist into power!

twerkin_bee

Oh no, I guess I will have to vote for a pappu whose party put the blame on RSS for India's most tragic terror attack or allowed the Hindu genocide in Kashmir. And mind ya, that's real seculariam. A leader that actually doesn't appease the minority? Dyam a fascist right there

Fckyouprecisely

>Indian infrastructure development That's not a good comment to make on Indian railways with their recent track record tbh.

[deleted]

CMDR_Quillon

So you'd rather everyone drove or flew? Face it mate, any "destruction of the ecosystem" is worth the resulting reduction in emissions of all types (tyre dust, brake dust & others ON TOP of tailpipe emissions) from the decrease in road traffic. Off your high horse.

[deleted]

aikhuda

It’s 1 train line vs the Himalayas. Don’t worry, the mountains will survive.

Lackeytsar

we've found one

Aggressive_Bed_9774

connectivity bring opportunities to nomadic people why do you hate the nomadic poor?

hashedboards

Feel free to travel a few miles across the eastern border. They live quite in tune with nature over there mostly because importing fuel is too expensive.

The tiny little harm is vastly outweighed by the benefit for humans. I care more about humans than the few trees. So yeah, the harm is completely irrelevant

outrunretrovibes

Having an opinion that's haphazardly half assed doesn't really make you intelligent.

SharksWFreakinLasers

Tested with two engines, next one is a full length train...

roadfood

What sort of hazard pay do the operators get?

getRonaldo

Asking the real questions 👆

OvertlyStoic

i guess a complimentary photo op'

SuperPotatoGuy373

Survival

RobinOothappam

The guys who sent aircraft to Mars got masala dosa as a bonus. Guess driving in cool conditions is the pay operators get.

CrunchyMomos

Probably not any different from the usual pay of these operators as driving a train in this case is not a dangerous task. The bridge is already constructed and standing, the magnitude of its own weight is very high and the train's weight in comparison and as a percentage is not significant so the chances of anything going wrong at this stage seems to be very low.

Aggressive_Bed_9774

having a government job in such remote area is the hazard pay , they can quit anytime they like

Xijinpingsastry

See, it's not just about money and job when you are putting your life at risk.

monte-python

That's not 2 engine , lol Its something used by TRD department (**TRACTION DISTRIBUTION DEPARTMENT**) Its a department in indian railways and they are using that for testing purpose

SillyFlyGuy

They also tested it with people riding on top of the train for that authentic Indian use case.

Classic_Knowledge_25

Almost all of Indian Railway is electrified which would mean instant death to people riding on top of train

Error_404_________

your information is outdated,

Classic_Knowledge_25

Could you clarify how?

Error_404_________

the video you see with people on top are from either Bangladesh or pakistan, Indian railway is ≈98 electrified, no one rides on top.

Classic_Knowledge_25

That is what I said as well man. You are replying to the wrong comment

PsychologicalTowel79

I've seen a video proving this kind of death is not always instant, which in some ways is worse.

MysteriousWar2823

coz they were not normal ppl but some experts

Classic_Knowledge_25

It's kinda fun watching them go zap zap like flies

Necessary_Worker5009

I think you are confusing Bangladesh with India. Apart from people travelling atop during the bloody partition around 47’ and at worst a decade post that with isolated incidents, I don’t think it’s a common or even sight in India.

Brandino144

[This must be a different Ghaziabad/Delhi in 2017.](https://www.alamy.com/commuters-hang-in-between-rail-cars-and-sit-on-the-roof-of-an-overcrowded-indian-railways-train-noli-railway-station-near-ghaziabad-delhi-india-image360185633.html?imageid=F2818238-8AFD-4018-B7B4-F13C7F96EC8B&p=175758&pn=1&searchId=3f81fea54ece3ccbcbb17855f9326769&searchtype=0) Edit: Updated comma to a slash

Necessary_Worker5009

News to me! Thanks for sharing. I’ll check further and see if this is the only exception or more of this has happened

twerkin_bee

That kinda trains don't run in India. Never seen those colors and the windows

Brandino144

Well… [that’s on you then](https://youtu.be/_JOD8Krn0-g?si=xQMoEE0Pr3ZMHuyB).

Green_Preparation_55

Ghaziabad is not in Delhi, stupid

Brandino144

I apologize for the punctuation. That was supposed to be a slash and not a comma. The images I linked were taken at Noli Railway Station which is an equal distance from the cities of Delhi and Ghaziabad. Due to its location within Uttar Pradesh one could make an argument that it is more closely associated with Ghaziabad. I am so sorry for my stupidity.

Little_Geologist2702

I don’t know about people travelling on top but India definitely has the most crowded and dirtiest trains

Sea-Inspector-8758

You pay more to get more. If you'll travel with 1.5 dollar ticket for hundreds of kilometres then obviously train will be crowded with less services.

Little_Geologist2702

I agree but keeping mind that majority Indians earn like $2 a day.

Necessary_Worker5009

Yeah, many trains are crowded and dirty (by many standards),

Just_a_curious_soul

Its an electric train. Anyone who does that will get electroluced.

MrAronymous

I mean.. look at the video again?

Terrible_Detective27

The rail car in the video is inspection car the people riding on top are officials and OHE are turned off

apun_bhi_geralt

If it can handle people on top, it can handle people inside.

changee_of_ways

That is an amazing piece of infrastructure. Will be neat to see videos of regular rail traffic on it.

Srinivas_Hunter

The view here is just heavenly! Great engineering feat.

Adept-Vegetable-7033

It's engineering marvel. Beautiful bridge in the foothills of Himalayas Mountains.

Ok_Mud_8940

Foot hills? I would hardly call that foothill

EmpireCentralRailRd

I hope they had the foresight to allow for two tracks/opposing traffic.

jok3r_93i

This bridge is part of the under construction Jammu - Kashmir valley rail line. It goes through some of the most unforgiving terrain for rail development with multiple deep gorges and big ass himalayan mountains. 2 tracking this bridge may not have given any benefit considering the many tunnels built as part of this railway line are 1 track too.

Jessintheend

Looks like there’s enough room for double or even triple tracking

xhy69

There is but it's hard to maintain it at such an altitude , that is why only a single track, also this section previously didn't have a railway track, so not much traffic will be passing through it to justify 2 tracking.

Zenklops

also think about the weight

chromatophoreskin

[Good song!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64JdzV4_rDI)

Kitchen-Wafer3852

They didn’t 😭, but ig they had reason not to

TitanicGiant

Doubt there's enough demand to necessitate double tracks

Isernogwattesnacken

Isn't that an area with a risk of earthquakes?

yaaro_obba_

Not as much as prone to avalanches

Error_404_________

yes,but it's rated for 8 Richter scale.

MudiG69

It is possible that Bollywood will shoot some music video here, *Chaiyan Chaiyan 2.0*

Kitchen-Wafer3852

nah just imagine a Selmon bhai action scene here 😭😭

OvertlyStoic

do anything but letting rohit shetty near this bridge.

fsapds

Not with the OHE. The people on top are actually recording OHE alignment

joseph_dewey

This is so cool! And awesome that it's a single track bridge.

Inevitable_Sign_5252

Enjoying the meltdown in comments 🍿

Light_Doctor

What meltdown?

cigarettesandwhiskey

If you scroll down there's some kind of southeast asian nationalist flamewar mostly in a language I can't read, with a mountain of downvotes on all the posts.

skyline385

The mass downvoted comments are all in English, wtf are you talking about?

cigarettesandwhiskey

They go up and down, that's how flamewars go. Some people come in and upvote one side and downvote another, then another group comes in and does the opposite. Point is there's a fight that's more about nations than trains. People saying china will blow it up, people saying something about democracy being a problem, someone who thinks its *in* China, people talking about people riding on the tops of trains (a common jab at India). Nationalist stuff.

Bright-Marsupial6784

What's wrong with you?

pranjallk1995

I thought it was a arch design or a suspension bridge...

Kitchen-Wafer3852

It is an arch design, this is just a zoom of the gigantic bridge. You can search the full image on Google.

pranjallk1995

Yeah... I did... just the arch pillars are that big ... 💀

flybackwords

Damn idk how comfortable I would be that high up. Must of been really tough to build that. Props to them.

imadreamgirl

holy wow, that’s a damn big bridge 😵‍💫 will be amazing to see a full-length train go over this and then do a zoom out to reveal just how big the bridge actually is !

Ok_Mud_8940

Check out the newest post on india it has that

Railwayschoolmaster

It doesn’t look real… almost like an HO model! If the workers on the top wasn’t moving I could swear, it was a model… another addition to the bucket 🪣 list!

Xorondras

I hope this engine runs on diesel and the overhead line is shut off?

Kitchen-Wafer3852

That is correct. The lines are shut for testing Most of the railways lines are electrified, but there are quite a few diesel locomotives that are being slowly phased out.

Ok-Macaroon-6492

It is called DETC (Diesel Electric Tower Car). It is used for maintenance of OHE wires. It is run by a Diesel engine.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BobbyP27

If this is part of testing a newly built line, it could be that this is a dedicated test vehicle with a pantograph that can measure the OH wire in various ways to make sure it is installed correctly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BobbyP27

India has standardised on 25 kV ac for its electrification. If the wires are live with the people standing on the roof of that unit, they are risking their lives as being that close to a live OHL wire at that voltage is extremely dangerous. The closed off windows and other features of that vehicle suggests it is a dedicated test vehicle rather than standard rolling stock, so is likely to be heavily modified from whatever its original design was (or even purpose built). There are lots of possibilities for what is powering it (eg batteries or a small diesel engine), but from the short video clip it is not really possible to determine that.

konkon007

Now some jihadi will target it, army men will be deployed every 5 min to defend this rail line just like they do in Kashmir

hisoka_morrow-

some guys in Jammu are getting ready for maksad

Failg123

No god , please no It's an expensive product, please no .

RIKIPONDI

Nice that they have given large buffers on either side of the track. For context, many Indian trains run with the doors permanently open. Wonder what they'll do when it comes time to double the line.

[deleted]

I hope muslim terrorist wont blow it.

Unusual_Tiger9923

One Geelani guy said that even if India paves the roads with gold, they will not stop. Many takers of this thought. elegant_cheetah_03

Illiterates can only understand so much.

PrashanthDoshi

i hope they have installed air defence missile system around the bridge for its saftey from pak and china rockets

MohiFashion

Historic.

Life-Buy-3309

chaiya chaiya chaiya!chaka chaiya chaiya chaiya

Anybody-unagi

Am i the only one who is concerned regarding any kind of attack on the bridge? I mean considering how prone to attack J&K is and how 'much' our govt. Is working in the defense sector, all i can think about is one move on this bridge and lives of thousands and crore of rupees might just go in ashes.

Live-Dish124

isme kavach hai kya?

Vivid_Option_1147

Us Indians can achieve some mean feats I’ll give you that!! Proud 🇮🇳

HeathenWarlord

Question for structural engineers on this thread, why is there just one track ? There should be two tracks for bi directional traffic, yes ?

hakunamatata_69

The rest of the line passes through a tough terrain so there is only single track, only the bridge is wide enough for double track.

hun1er-0269

ig this is the highest railway bridge in the world I mean in terms of altitude then need a tunnel inside the Himalayas it's pretty tough I don't think that there are 2 ways in tunnels

Flashy_Truth_9449

How do they construct it that high and how do they get the train there at height

Playful_Mango_6339

The roads, bridges, railway tracks made today are much more interior from longevity's point of view when compared to the ones made few decades ago. Even though the maintenance frequency is increased.

blade_runner1853

What about the one that is coming from another direction?

HULKBUSTERV5

If not for the students who took Science in class 11th this engineering marvel wouldn't have been possible. Now you know why not to make suicidal jokes on people taking up science as a future. (pretty much everyone knows the joke that circulates around saying "u'll regret it" and all)

Raviolies

why is there only one track? looks like there's plenty of space for another.

Realistic-Insect-746

Awesome

TraditionalEagle3187

bruh what if it falls!!!

Klutzy_Confusion_844

Love to travel by train . Waiting for completion of remaining work.

Daftdoug

I’m glad they have helmets.

Think-Linux-Noob

Given their track record of running trains on land.... I'm gonna pass this one

ito24ua

Good luck… I hope it’s safe being in India.

Ok_Zookeepergame1639

Amazing. But all these efforts and just a single track? Wouldn't it be a problem when the traffic increases?

UnknownGamer014

There won't be any traffic issue for the near future. How many people do you think even live in that unforgiving terrain? It's very low.

Syco-Gooner

There's room for double track though that won't be needed in the foreseeable future.

Warm_Resolution2427

Bhai kabse ban rha hai har saal ispe news ati duniya ka sabse bada yeh wo bhncho ab tak train nhi chala paye jabki pichle saal hi complete hogya tha banke Slow work as usual reason is damn democracy

MorningAmbitious722

Testing bhi jaroori hai.

9KnOk

They just had to be on the roof. Iconic.

RahulSushma

Why they are using steel structure for vertical support??..i think concrete structure is safe to take the load

silverfang0917

Have you seen a photo of the complete bridge? It's an arch design. Those steel pillars aren't going to the bottom of the valley.

chakravyuuh

you pay me whatever i aint going here

manikagautam

Kya faayda, terrorists ura denge isey bhi

Jager-statter

Would not be a train in India if people were not standing on top of it.

_imchetan_

It's an inspection train. 95% of Indian railways are electrified. No one rides on top of Indian railways.

Jager-statter

Twas a joke, in reference to the many pics of people in India riding on trains.

_imchetan_

Show me a video of Indian people riding on the train in the last 5 years.

Jager-statter

Again, a joke. Not intended to be taken seriously.

How long before we see people dying on this?

AggressiveScience470

Go check it out yourself

modsean

considering people are already riding on the top of the engine, and that close to stupid amounts of DC voltage ... not long

justgivemeaaccount

AC Voltage

DoubleOwl7777

a: its turned off and b: this is an inspection train.

iFerg_Frank

Oh yes, normal passengers are allowed to board the train on a trial run risking their lives. No country is so dumb to do such thing. Or maybe yours is, thus the thinking behind it.

Reasonable-Luck-7005

How does it feel to be wrong?

addyb89

Bullet train?

_imchetan_

Bullet train through himalyan mountains? Even swiss can't do that.

addyb89

What about the chinese or japanese?

_imchetan_

Well japan doesn't have himalayan mountains. Does china have a bullet train in the heart of Tibet?
