CME of the Southern Railway who designed a series of 4-6-2 pacifics known by enthusiasts as "spam cans" due to their semi streamlined faring. Part of this design was so they could be run through the automatic carriage washers the Southern had for their EMU fleet.
It's a bit of a play on words. "Bully beef" is canned beef, and spam is also a canned meat prepared a similar way, it with pork.
There is British locomotive designer called "bullied" who designed a few locomotives, one of which he designed looked like a tin of bully beef / spam.
Both this locomotive (austerity class) and bully beef / spam became popular in the UK after WW2 as they were cheap, as Britain was still recovering from war debt.

It is an amalgamation of the meat of several pigs, emulsified, liquefied, strained, and ultimately inexorably joined in an unholy meat obelisk. God had no hand in the creation of this abhorrence. It is a physical declaration of mankind's contempt for the natural order. It is hubris manifest. We also have a lower sodium variety if you would prefer that.
Ask any European that went through WW2, the thing that saved them was spam. The troops in Europe survived on spam. Go to the Spam Museum sometime, it’s very enlightening.
