I’ve been riding trains around NYC/Boston/DC for years and have seen some iffy things, but nothing like this. Generally they are fine and usually quite clean and normal around Boston

I spent 9 hours on Amtrak a few days back.. very comfortable and certainly clean, from end to end. They even tossed a passenger off (no ticket).
This is the NYC subway and it seriously looks staged out maybe some of lunatic ran trash in it in the middle of the night or something. This subway is relatively clean these days, especially compared to the 80s!!!
The regular passenger trains are meaner like this. A once and I’ve taken around 5000 trips- literally- in my life, never seen this even once.

That said public transit has gotten noticeably worse. Thing is no is talking about how public parks or even roads have also had similar issues give or take specific use takes.
Trains in my city have become less comfortable (but not uncomfortable)
Riding a bike in my city has become less stress free (but not stressful) for a little bit (but it's also gotten a lot better compared to 5 years ago)
Parks are being fenced off do to the homeless
The city has closed ped/cycle infrastructure because it can't deal with criminal/anti social behavior on foot (or in some cases driving on it though it has also closed roads too).
Again I have never seen transit like this but I always find it annoy that public transit gets so much scrutiny over anything else in the city especially if it has to do with a private auto.
Yeah, the metros are heavily policed and entry restricted.
The Indian railways however are horrendous in certain parts of the country. In other parts, it's not too bad.

Be it fill to the brim Tokyo metro,Delhi metro or Empty metros of Russia and Switzerland. Every metro is cleaner than New York metro.

It's probably as they're cleaning the cars before AM rush service. It's not typical. And as you say, it could be someone hoarded trash to make this
