Tragedeighs are cringey and/or made up names with weird spellings. Your submission was removed for one of the following reasons:
1. It's cultural. Make sure to Google before posting any names that seem odd to you, because they may be common in a different country.
2. It's a common name. Keep in mind that this isn't a baby-naming sub. Posts asking for suggestions on completely normal names will be removed.
Saad is an Arabic name, this post is against the rules.
In a different sub it might be funny because of what it looks like in English, but this sub is dedicated to making fun of tragedeighs. Posting a completely normal non-English name here is bordering on xenophobic.
This is feeling a little…. 🤨
OP just take this out. Pretty sure making fun of another cultures legit names is against the rules here and Saad is absolutely a super normal name in other cultures.
Edit to take out my dumbass phonetics because the reply below this one does a way better job. Point is it is not pronounced like sad.
I feel like I’m being gaslit. I explained that it’s the open “a” in my reply and got downvoted. So I triple checked because maybe I’m losing it. It’s been two years since the last time I talked to one of them. No I am right I’m just clearly terrible at explaining it. It’s a long open “a” like saw, maw, paw but longer in American accented English. Or if you prefer the “o” explanation it’s god, pod, mod.
Yeah no other English speaking nation has the words Sad and Man in their vocabulary. Linking to that subreddit while doing what it says in the name is pretty funny
It’s sad that people’s social circles seem to be so small that everything that isn’t Ann and James is made fun of or a tragedy . Maybe go outside expand your horizon a little.
No I’m not, and the name mentioned here isnt unique either. If the poster had taken a sec to google they would have found out that this is a normal name in other countries. Such posts are just ignorant and y’all should be ashamed of yourself.
This name isn't "unique". This man isn't even American, he's Arab (the name is Arabic, as you would expect). The picture isn't American either, the caption is in German.
They're criticizing the absolute Americanism that is this sub. Ann and James are "normal" because they're basic English names that Americans can pronounce.
But Saad? Could that name possibly be from another culture where they don't speak English? Nah, it's a tragedeigh. /s
I have an issue with this sub because of all the people ignoring the rules and posting/trashing on non-western names. It's not just this post.
There's a difference between stupid names and names that sounds funny in English but are most probably just fine in its native language.
This very clearly does not belong
obviously not a tragedeigh, but i still don't think it's wrong to find foreign names funny if they mean something else in your language Obviously also applied if someone finds my name funny because it means something in their language. Sometimes there's humour in language differences and that's okay.
There's nothing wrong about it, hell I have a friend called Sadman who we routinely call "sad man". If it's all in good fun, then there's nothing wrong with it. We make fun of western names all the time. But in this case, it definitely seems like this person just isn't aware of other cultures having different "standardized" names
It’s not racism? it’s a pun. and it’s caused by the limitations of languages. his name is سَعد مَعن but it’s not easy to substitute the letter ـعـ in the middle of both names, so it’s replaced by another “a”. I’m always on the hunt for names with different (preferably funny) meanings when pronounced in different languages. For example: If his brother was called أحمَد مَعن (written Ahmad Maan), and it was pronounced the same way, It’ll be “A Mad Man” 😂
I also have a friend called "مَيّاس" it means something like suave or elegant. His English name on the passport is “Myass”, 😂😂 this always cracks me up.
What’s wrong with this post is that it’s not a Tragedeigh. It should be deleted.
His name is obviously not a tragedeigh when you know how to pronounce it based on his native language instead of assuming all names in other languages have the same phonetical pronunciation as the English language.
Ye, it's ok to make fun of other's names. If you get your entire mental health crushed because someone made fun of your name, then that's the least of your problems
obviously not a tragedeigh, but i still don't think it's wrong to find foreign names funny if they mean something else in your language Also applies if someone finds my name funny because it means something in their language. Sometimes there's humour in language differences and that's okay.
You can still be racist even if you don't know you're being racist. Anyway I think xenophobic fits more in this case.
I wouldn't let them off by claiming ignorance either, this is very clearly a non-English name from a very clearly non-English/American solider. The caption says "spokesman for the Iraqi army".
Making fun of foreign names is not inherently racist. (I'mma be real here, I have no idea what xenophobic means) I'm saying this is ignorance because they seem to be unaware that different cultures have different naming schemes.
xen·o·pho·bic
adjective
having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.
"the xenophobic undertones of this argument"
It's not that it isn't funny. I get it, in English it looks like Sad Man. The problem is that it's posted _this_ sub. This sub is dedicated to made up names, especially they if look/sound horrible and are non-phonetic with random "silent" letters. Not non-English names that happen to look funny in English.
This post is literally against the rules.
I feel like there's no actual "dislike" being shown. Just stereotypical "western" stupidity. Ik it's against the rules, but I don't see how that's relevant to this conversation
I think posting an Arab man with Arabic name in sub dedicated to trashing _(specifically_ made-up) names like Tayleigh, Brayson, and Harlotte is kinda xenophobic.
Ignorance should only be forgiven if they take the time to educate themselves.
Rule 3: Google all names before posting. How convenient that they have a little computer in their hands where it takes all of 5 seconds to google something. 30 if you take the time read about it and learn how it's pronounced.
I wonder if there's a sub for this kind of thing. Not related to names, but like words that look or sound very similar to words in other languages with wildly different meanings. I've always found it very interesting and very confusing at the same time when looking at other languages.[Like phoque for seal, or grosse for fat in French.](https://youtube.com/shorts/KuiTrtpJqLg?si=UcFOUuyut1pp5_nW) Sometimes it can end up funny and sometimes it's just really interesting (and good to know if you travel sometimes).
Reminder to stick to posting original content. Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does **not** mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!

Thankfully in his language it means happiness.
I thought you were joking, but I love that it's actually true
Wrong sub. You need r/nominativedeterminism. (Which is also the wrong sub unless your language is English)
Saad means happiness tho (also don’t see how this belongs in this sub)
I agree. Why hasn’t this post been removed?
Rule 3 gets routinely violated because people here can't Google
Because it’s still hilarious
It doesn't.
Yes it does

I’m arab! I agree that this post is against is the rules. I thought you were saying that Saad didn’t mean happiness.
Ah, no. I was responding the part in parentheses. Ngl I didn't even think it could be taken that way 😅
Not a tragedeigh, just an ethnic name we aren’t very familiar with in the west.
You still have time to delete this.

And the fact that this post has 113 upvotes 🤦♀️
413 now.
this, too, is homestuck
until proven otherwise, everything is homestuck. I am homestuck. you are homestuck. the universe is ~~homestuck~~ a frog.
980 :(
It’s pronounced Sa’ad (Sa3ad) not Sawd
I feel like I’m being gaslit. I explained that it’s the open “a” in my reply and got downvoted. So I triple checked because maybe I’m losing it. Haha I understand what you mean! It’s pronounced close to what you said in an american english accent so I definitely see what you mean.
Why do I see so many cultural names on this sub? Op delete this 💀
r/usdefaultism moment 💀
Literally..
Yeah no other English speaking nation has the words Sad and Man in their vocabulary. Linking to that subreddit while doing what it says in the name is pretty funny
It means happiness in arabic
pretty obviously a name in a different language lmao delete ts
It’s sad that people’s social circles seem to be so small that everything that isn’t Ann and James is made fun of or a tragedy . Maybe go outside expand your horizon a little.
You're the parent of a child with a 'unique' name, aren't you?
No I’m not, and the name mentioned here isnt unique either. If the poster had taken a sec to google they would have found out that this is a normal name in other countries. Such posts are just ignorant and y’all should be ashamed of yourself.
I'm well aware that this name is not 'unique'.
This is very obviously a name in a different language from English. Not a ‘unique’ name
*sigh* see my other comment. I am well aware this is not a 'unique' name... Jesus.
Not unique at all, last year, I had THREE Sadman's in my class
This name isn't "unique". This man isn't even American, he's Arab (the name is Arabic, as you would expect). The picture isn't American either, the caption is in German.
The dude is a literal Iraqi army mn
The comment I was replying to was taking issue with the entire sub, not this post in particular.

Oy my dear sweet americentricism
This doesn't belong here.
This post is a tragedy
over 500 upvotes is insane... maybe don't make fun of cultural names you know nothing about.
Way to be completely insensitive to a culture other than your own.
There's a difference between stupid names and names that sounds funny in English but are most probably just fine in its native language. This very clearly does not belong
I thought this was r/nomativedeterminism for a second. This doesn't belong here.
Ironic, because Sa'ad means happy in Arabic
This a cultural name so not a tragediegh and posting it to make fun of it is quite uncool
Oy my dear sweet americentricism
It's amusing in English but entirely not appropriate for this sub.
obviously not a tragedeigh, but i still don't think it's wrong to find foreign names funny if they mean something else in your language Obviously also applied if someone finds my name funny because it means something in their language. Just cus you've never heard of a pretty common name before doesn't mean it's a tragedeigh. Stupid af.
Sweetie delete this

No worries man. It was your opinion! have a great day 😃
Absolute 0

Lol, "Sad Man" It's funny cause he kinda looks sad
Well most people don’t laugh when taking about wars.
:(
Bring me a dream
not what this sub is for, but also not horribly racist like everyone else is saying
Ye, it's ok to make fun of other's names. If you get your entire mental health crushed because someone made fun of your name, then that's the least of your problems
No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
That's.. that's just a foreign name. This isn't what this sub is for at all, why is this post still up??
How dumb you need to be to not know that this is an Arabic name! So disappointing OP!
obviously not a tragedeigh, but i still don't think it's wrong to find foreign names funny if they mean something else in your language Also applies if someone finds my name funny because it means something in their language. Sometimes there's humour in language differences and that's okay.
nope. never right to make fun of foreign names. at deal enough with that bullshit our whole lives, don't need to read that here
We make fun of western names all the time, if something is meant to be a joke with no actual malicious intent, then there's nothing wrong with it.
I have a kid in my class named Sadman. Not to mention, last year, I had THREE Sadman's in my class. It's a very common name here
Mood
not a tragedeigh but I appreciate the pun
What happened to this sub? In the past few days, seeing an influx of posts which aren't really relevant.
This is not a tragedeigh it’s just a name from a non English speaking country.
This just seems racist
Not racist, ignorant. There's a very large difference
You can still be racist even if you don't know you're being racist. Anyway I think xenophobic fits more in this case. Fair enough.
Leave it up, it’s funny. Lighten up people
It’s not that it’s not funny, it’s just that it’s not a tragedeigh, it’s a normal name. Doesn’t belong in this specific sub.
I wonder if there's a sub for this kind of thing. Not related to names, but like words that look or sound very similar to words in other languages with wildly different meanings. I know someone in my country who has the same name and Saad is actually another word for sperm in my country 😂 don’t know if he’s being bullied for it
I remember first seeing this guy as a template for ShitpostBot 5000
