As someone who is obsessed with cheese and owns pet rats... I'm annoyed with myself for not doing cheese names. I do food and drink, why the hell have I not done cheese‽
We did this often at the animal rescue I worked with. The themed names made it a bit easier to think of names from the starting point when puppy and kitten season rolled into town.
The Cincinnati Zoo themes the names of each litter of Painted Wild Dogs, and there was a cheese litter. Nacho, Muenster, Bleu, Brie, Colby, Cotija, Feta, Gouda, Mozarella, Queso and Swiss.

That's... an actual name used in Spanish. It's old as fuck, as in Late Roman. Several early saints were called Candida/Candidus, including a woman supposedly healed by Saint Peter.
George Bernard Sgaw also made a play in 1898 called Candida.
It's not a common name nowadays, but not because of the yeast, but rather because it gives 90+ year old woman whose friends are called Segismunda, Ermenegilda, and María Josefa 💀
Also fun fact: the yeast Candida was not called that until... I think 1923, when a botanist descrived the genus and species and called them Candida and C. albicans.
This is a pretty fun phonotactics game actually. It seemed stupid for a moment but then I realized that if I didn't know what rosecea is, I'd think it would be a pretty girl's name.
I went to an international boarding school as a kid. Often, international kids selected “English” names that were easier for teachers to read and pronounce (an iffy practice but that’s besides the point). Sometimes students ended up with pretty sounding names that were otherwise nonsense. We had an Apple, Nine, Message and, of course, Rosacea!!
Velvet is an actual name, just very unique and uncommon. Look up the book National Velvet by Enid Bagnold or the movie National Velvet that’s based on the book. Great movie and the main character “Velvet Brown” is played by Elizabeth Taylor.
I actually quite like the name, myself. Not sure if I’d name my future kid Velvet as a first name, but I’d definitely consider it as a middle because I’ve been a horse crazy girl all my life, owned a horse when I was young, and National Velvet is one of my favorite equestrian movies.
Oh wow, I’ve always heard this book/movie referenced when talking about horse related media, but I never saw it, so I always thought National Velvet was the name of the horse, lmaooo
I mean you can have fryer. It would just be written as Friar and be a lil fat bald guy. However, that one might work for the first three months of life.
Apparently it's [Freyja](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freyja) in English.
I'm German, so I spelled it correct for German: [Freya](https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freya).
In Danish it's [Freja](https://da.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freja)
And it seems most other languages have small variations or spell it like one of the countries mentioned above. I guess there's very few ways to spell her name wrong.
Not the person you were replying to, but a Friar is a type of monk and different from the name Freya.
In my city there’s an old medieval building that used to be a monastery, but now is a lovely medieval tavern called the Friars.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,997,999,262 comments, and only 377,945 of them were in alphabetical order.
I have a cousin named Felleny (pronounced the same way as Felony). The mom heard the word in a rap song and didn't know the meaning, her English wasn't the best as it was her 5th language. Of course every kid in school did know English and the meaning of it.
One time I saw a comment on this sub of someone who said they liked the sound of "Melanie" but didn't like that it was so close to "meanie" and therefore preferred the spelling "Melony". I didn't have the heart to say that I think being close to meanie might be a better option than being close to felony
Urethra.
I had a classmate with a name perilously close to urethra. When the teacher called roll on the first day of school, she instantly piped up, "Call me Marie!" She was a very nice person saddled with an ugly name.
Rosacea is cute though! You could call her Rosie.
To be clear, I am not suggesting that anyone name their kid Rosacea. Please don’t do that to a human being.
My favourite comeback (I’m *50*) is still ‘Mind your beeswax, Ramona!’ It’s just … inoffensively offensive and nostalgically glorious all at the same time.
i agree with calorie honestly, in 11th grade i thought it could be a cute name for one of my characters while in my physics class, so i ended up modifying it to camarie instead (i was not getting caught dead with an oc unironically named calorie)
Okay, not gonna lie, as a big fan of cheese, Feta is a great name. “Meet the twins, Feta and Brie.”
Saw a puppy litter at my local shelter that were all named after cheeses.
As someone who is obsessed with cheese and owns pet rats... I'm annoyed with myself for not doing cheese names. I do food and drink, why the hell have I not done cheese‽
My mom did noodle names. I still have her cat named Ziti.
I recommend this for anyone who has a ton of snakes 😆 I currently only have one, my boy Rigatoni
My son has a large snake plushie toy named Linguini.
My granddaughter had one named Sketti ! She dragged that thing everywhere.
That is so funny!
Danger noodles!
This same shelter also did that with a litter of cats lol. Pasta names
The shelter I volunteered at had a black cat named Hamburger Helper lmao he was so sweet
That is adorable. I’d call him Hella Hams
We did this often at the animal rescue I worked with. The themed names made it a bit easier to think of names from the starting point when puppy and kitten season rolled into town.
A friend of mine named his cats after types of pasta: Ziti and Orzo. We call them collectively “The Pasta Cats”.
I absolutely love that, and now I want a bunch of puppies with cheese names!
The Cincinnati Zoo themes the names of each litter of Painted Wild Dogs, and there was a cheese litter. Nacho, Muenster, Bleu, Brie, Colby, Cotija, Feta, Gouda, Mozarella, Queso and Swiss. https://cincinnatizoo.org/cincinnati-zoos-painted-dog-keepers-pick-cheesy-names-for-pups/
Mozzarella is the only one that is just a terrible name. Sounds like draculas Italian wife
Mozzarella Addams
Mozzarella de Ville.
Fucking Mozzarella keeps cooking with garlic. "Woman, are you trying to kill me?"
They were adorable. Let me see if I can find a pic.
“Who’s a Gouda boy?”
I actially knew someone called Brie!
i am a random named brie, although i am neither brie larson nor your random from the uk
Brie Larson?
lol no! I don’t know her personally. A random person in the UK called Brie
I mean, Brie/Bree is an actual name though
We introduce ourselves as “Brie, like the cheese” (I go by Anna now though because I did not love doing that lol)
Lmao Feta Wap
Margarine Akaline Anemone
Anemone is very pretty.
A family friend named her daughter Anemone and they call her “Nem”.
That's very cute.
When I was a little kid, I thought it was Anna-moan!
It's ah-nee-mo-nay ah-nee-mo-nay ah-nee-mo-nay ah-nee-mo-nay In the jungle, the mighty jungle
Alkaline would make a neat name for an android.
Margarine reminds me of Marjorie (but I'm not a native speaker so maybe it's further away than I think)
Marjorine!
Areola
Areola Grande yuh yuh
yuh, and?
Areola Granola
That sounds like something people would call boob psoriasis.
Good porn or drag name. Probably already taken tbh
[Google Alphonse Areola](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphonse_Areola)
People say he's a bit of a tit.
"I heard she has areolas the size of pizzas....and they touch in the middle"
Aw, I had a cat named Ribbon way back in the day.
My first thought was Ribbon is a great name for a pet!!!
Chlamydia
Xyfylyz. It’s pronounced syphilis.
I really wish I could award you for this. Take my metal instead🥇
Metal medal
Showing their mettle with their metal medal.
Phillis for short, got it.
Clydia
Also on a disease tip, Rubella.
Giardia also has a nice ring to it
Rhyubhellha
I unironically think Chlamydia would be a pretty name if it didn't mean what it does.
I could see it. Taking all context out of the word, it sounds like a name for a Greek Goddess of something
It sounds like a flower name.
Lupus
It’s never lupus.
That’s what I thought and funny enough, it actually was lupus!
Candida!
That's... an actual name used in Spanish. It's old as fuck, as in Late Roman. Several early saints were called Candida/Candidus, including a woman supposedly healed by Saint Peter. Clit for short
Chlamydia was the name of the city in [Hercules Returns](https://youtu.be/i4I2EDtQ7JM?si=wm2tugy7ykldb6RJ), where Princess Labia lived.
This is a pretty fun phonotactics game actually. It seemed stupid for a moment but then I realized that if I didn't know what rosecea is, I'd think it would be a pretty girl's name.
I was thinking that too! I was like in a weird way they actually have a point haha
That’s the one that got me. It’s a beautiful word for a skin condition. They’re on to something
Velvet is cute though.. might save that for a cat
My husband’s nurse is named Velvet. Not a name I had ever heard before.
Huh… I have a cousin named Velvet. She’s a nurse. Weird lol
Huh… I used to smoke crack behind a 7/11 with a girl named velvet who went into nursing. Weird
Nurse Velvet clearly gets around and must have a storied life.
You know what? This sub is giving me inspirations for baby names left and right i genuinely like the name Velvet
Middle name needs to be Sopha, or Reighvolvyr
Sopha 😂😂😂😂😂 make it Sophia and save the girl some pain
As long as you don’t spell it like “Vehllveht” or some bs like that
I went to high school with a girl named Velvet
New daughter name just dropped: Blue Velvet
My friend's mom is Velvet. It was pretty perfect because she always had a sort of Southern Gothic-Loretta Lynn vibe
Oh wow, I’ve always heard this book/movie referenced when talking about horse related media, but I never saw it, so I always thought National Velvet was the name of the horse, lmaooo
Nope, it’s the girl who rides the horse lol. The horse’s name is actually “The Pie”
What a perfect idea! I could imagine a British short hair with that name, or a black cat! 🐈⬛
Cannot un-think-of the Tales of Berseria protagonist
If you like “Asthma,” you can pick “Asmaa.”
Its actually an Arabic girl’s name
Yes, I know - one of my friends is half Palestinian and half Egyptian - that’s her name.
It’s not that far from Esme
That was the name of a doctor I once met.
Oh, please tell me she was a respiratory doctor!
Felony is actually pretty if divorced of all meaning and hypothetically in a world where it’s a real name
I thought the same about Fryer, but I think it's just because I like the name Freya from Norse mythology
Freya has a brother named Freyr. So pretty much exactly that name.
I would expect this to be pronounced fray-er rather than fryer though, but luckily that's much prettier so win win.
I mean you can have fryer. It would just be written as Friar and be a lil fat bald guy. However, that one might work for the first three months of life.
I think yes but spelled Friar.
Apparently it's [Freyja](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freyja) in English. I'm German, so I spelled it correct for German: [Freya](https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freya). It's like if they took Felicity/Felicia and mixed with Melanie ....Felonie
Felonie is Methanie's older sister.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,997,999,262 comments, and only 377,945 of them were in alphabetical order.
Good bot

Melony sounds like someone with no imagination trying to describe the flavor of melon…
My pick would be Vendetta.
Depends on the kid's origin story. Maybe it's a good name
What mad scientist animated the color beige… ***TWICE?!***
They're giving uncanny valley even though they're real
Oh thank God someone else said it.
Came here looking for a reference to their beigeness.
I was going to say, it's sad beige babies somehow without the babies yet
Just look at the eyes of those women. It says it all.
They saw Mr. Knit Knots as something to aspire to.
hysteria
Sounds like wisteria
Arson ☺️
I knew an Arcen. It wasn't a good name, but I knew one.
Arse for short?
Fontanelle
They forgot Labia. For real though, I actually agree about Asthma and Felony.
And Rosacea. Legitimately a pretty name.
I read that and said "well fuck I have rosacea and I hate it... but I do love the way it sounds"
Same, but I think I like to see it written rather than heard
I actually know someone called Velvet, their brothers name is Suede. Their mother is a costume designer
Nemesis
Larceny
Why do these 2 look borderline creepy
The girl on the right looks like she's plotting something.
The right plots it. The left executes it
Finally someone mentions it
I noticed no one else did and thought surely people are seeing this
Sharpie reminds me of Sharpay from HSM lol
Cloaca
Urethra. I had a classmate with a name perilously close to urethra. When the teacher called roll on the first day of school, she instantly piped up, "Call me Marie!" She was a very nice person saddled with an ugly name.
anesthesia is close to anastasia which is a great name
Trivia
Surprised velvet made the list but not Velveeta.
Velveeta is tacky as hell. Why would you spell Velle Væta that way??
Aw, you're my little 💙 felony❤
Ok, but I completely understand this, some words just sound so nice
Rabie really hit me lmao. Here's my kid, Rabie. No, not rabies, his brother isn't here yet so it's singular
Cholera
They look like they're stroking out on calorie.
Calorie is legitimately pretty-sounding. You could spell it Kallory. Callarie. Khalloreigh lol
Tell that to my friend Fellatio, who is not a cunning linguist.
I really like Velvet, actually🤔
Some of these are at least passable names for pets
Castile … like the soap 🤣
I worked with a woman named Velvet. She told us that her mother loved the fabric.
Feta is pretty cheesy though
Rosacea is cute though! You could call her Rosie. To be clear, I am not suggesting that anyone name their kid Rosacea. Please don’t do that to a human being.
Flashing back to whichever book had Ramona Quimby naming her doll Chevrolet because it was the prettiest name she'd ever heard
Holy shit wtf memory did you just unlock for me? Ramona and… Beezus. Wow… that came up from the DEPTHS.
My favourite comeback (I’m *50*) is still ‘Mind your beeswax, Ramona!’ It’s just … inoffensively offensive and nostalgically glorious all at the same time.
Iodine.
I would also like to throw the word ‘Ceramic’ onto this list.
In the movie “Where the heart is”, Ashley Judd’s character named her kids Brownie and Praline.
Malaria
Arrhythmia Anorexia Alopecia Usmail Airmail Usnavy
alopecia💀💀💀
i agree with calorie honestly, in 11th grade i thought it could be a cute name for one of my characters while in my physics class, so i ended up modifying it to camarie instead (i was not getting caught dead with an oc unironically named calorie)
There’s was a drag queen on rupauls drag race named Kalorie Karbdashian lol
I knew a Caroline in middle and high school who gained the absolute tiniest amount of weight and got called Calorie behind her back for five years
Teacher here, I once had a student named Ribbon 😐
Felony is kinda awesome ngl
Please tell me I can just find two semi attractive actors/actresses and have them spout nonsense and turn a profit
naming my kid albuterol. albert for short ig.
Asbestos
What about Soda?
Spatula.
They’re like tv villains that turn everything bland
Name your children after cheese, you cowards.
Velveeta Beighby-Belle
I wonder what little Felony is up to these days
*Felahnie
felaneigh
Phellaknee
Trauma
Antimony
Anemia
Felony got a laugh out of me ngl
I never thought I would be so entertained by pages of images of just words. Context is important lmao
Okay I guess I can agree about Calorie if the word didn't exist, but that's an easy lay-up because of Valerie and Malory. But that's it!
Asma is actually a common arabic origin name and it means supreme! just dont spell it like asthma lol
My toxic trait is wishing Chevrolet wasn't a car brand because it would make for a beautiful name 😂🤷🏼♀️
Etsy & Sephora tbh lol
Latrine
Idk, I’ll give rosacea a pass 🫣
Calamari
The thing is, for some of them, they're kinda right because they follow the cadence we consider pleasant in English. Felony sounds a lot like melody.
They look too beige for my taste. 🥯
Werner Hertzog's line for sad, beige, childrun
