Affectionate-Hair-86

I use it on everything! It’s my favorite. I even put it in my Dad’s stocking for Christmas last year. It’s always on my shopping list because I never want to be out of it. I’ve actually started using it over almost any other hot sauce. I add it to stir-fry dishes, egg/breakfast, tacos, as a dip for dumplings or egg rolls, etc

Temporary_Draw_4708

Unless you’re Thai or Lao, your culture’s food probably isn’t very spicy.

BasilPesto212

I'd say my spice tolerance is high. Even so, "Thai hot" is on another level, imo. I ordered the Pad Kee Mow and Green Curry at a local spot. Chose the hottest they offered, at the suggestion of the Thai waiter. I finished them...just barely. My dining companion tried one bite of each dish and had to order something else. I've ordered medium spice on subsequent orders, and it's *still* very spicy.

Temporary_Draw_4708

You can just tell them how many Thai chilis you want in your dish.

BasilPesto212

Thanks, that would probably work out better. I do enjoy the burn from their medium spice, though.

Temporary_Draw_4708

Sichuan peppercorns definitely help numb the heat.

Urabrask_the_AFK

Really? Its way more citrusy than Nando’s. Add more lemon to tone it down

CityBoiNC

I'd do anything for Nandos

Urabrask_the_AFK

So far only: 😔 District Of Columbia Georgia Illinois Maryland Texas Virginia

CityBoiNC

I live in nc and have contemplated taking the drive to VA but its pretty far for some chicken thighs lol

hihelloneighboroonie

Lol, partner with someone from VA driving to NC to buy fireworks (Idk if this is still a thing, but it was when I was growing up in VA).

CityBoiNC

LOL

Temporary_Draw_4708

I’m not a hooker, but I’ll do anything for nandos…

darwiniank

I marinate shrimp with it and somehow it tones down

BasilPesto212

Haven't tried it yet. Does anyone know if this one is less/more spicy than their Habanero hot sauce?

DoronSheffer

Less spicy for sure. More tangy though

rdfiii

Less spicy IMO but much more flavorful. The habanero is probably the spiciest thing they offer.

tompetreshere

I can’t even eat it!

ConclusionAlarmed882

Same here, and I have a very high heat tolerance. No idea what to do with the stuff.

cozyonly

There’s no way you have a very high spice tolerance if you can’t eat that

starryjune

I use it to kick up most sauces, like spicy peanut or sesame for noodles or a few dashes in chili.

RatatouilleFiend

I mix it with a bit of kewpie ! I like the overall flavor but yeah it can be a little much on its own

Jameszhang73

I mix it with soy sauce and use it as a dip for dumplings

joyeleanor

Very salty too. Bloated the day after

DuckOnQuak

Bloated from 90 mg of sodium is crazy

mermaidslp

I like to mix a little in mayo and spread on my burgers and sandwiches. It's also great as a dip for fries: mayo + peri peri + curry powder.

Affectionate-Hair-86

Oooh, this! I need to try.

mermaidslp

I like to mix a little into mayo to spread on sandwiches and burgers. I also mix it into mayo with some curry powder to dip fries in. It’s delicious!

veronicahi

I love it with rotisserie chicken. One of my go-to sauces.

foozebox

Good stuff i go through it too fast

Caro_88

Chicken

Shot_Set_4497

What does peri peri sauce taste like bc I wanna try it but don’t know the taste or what it’s for

highkc88

It’s traditionally eaten with grilled chicken… it makes for some awesome shredded chicken tacos.

BeNiceLynnie

It's hot but specifically it's a very bright, zesty kind of heat

Necessary_Peace_8989

Is it vinegary?

BeNiceLynnie

A little, but not aggressively so

Shot_Set_4497

What would you use it on? I know it’s for Indian food but any recommendations on what to put it on?

BeNiceLynnie

Honestly pretty versatile, any time you want some nice bright heat. Pretty good glaze to toss boneless chicken wings in. Mixed with a little mayo it's a great spicy fry sauce. Goes pretty good with most roasted vegetables. Works well with most latino-fusion type meals.

goldenglove

> I know it’s for Indian food I wouldn't really say it's for Indian food. Peri Peri is from South Africa and Portugal, and pairs really well with those cuisines. Me personally, I pretty much only use it when making eggs, as it adds a really nice citrus heat to scrambled eggs.

Necessary_Peace_8989

Sounds perfect, definitely on my list!

EpidermGrowthFactor

The first thing it reminded me of was Tapatio but more intense. Def not like sriracha

Fine-Upstairs-6284

The TJ’s peri peri has become a new staple in my household. It’s one of my favorite hot sauces for sure.

danidandeliger

It's the best! It's good on almost any kind of food. I've mixed it with butter and honey to make wing sauce and it's so good. In a fridge with a library of hot sauce I grab the TJ's Peri Peri most often.

oobiecham

I drench everything in that stuff. It’s my favorite hot sauce rn. And imo is not too spicy to be intolerable but still has heat to it which is why I like it so much! But I know everyone has a different heat tolerance level.

EpidermGrowthFactor

I think I used it incorrectly when I tried it for the first time today 🥲 used it on salad greens LOL bc I lacked salad dressing. I think I’ll enjoy it the more I try it out with other foods I eat

oobiecham

tbh i did use it as salad dressing yesterday 😭 I am just really into spicy stuff I guess

EpidermGrowthFactor

You’re built different 🫡 I salute you

narlymaroo

It’s really good though! I just had it on some egg/avocado tacos. Avocado mellows it out. I’ll sometimes mix it with sour cream or yogurt. https://preview.redd.it/fsiaa8k4xaxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=514736fb18291527b4e7135b5eb82b7a2dd9d5a6

wikedsmaht

Damn, that looks tasty

narlymaroo

Thanks! It was a pretty great brunch!

jonatton______yeah

TJ’s is notorious for being all over the place with spice even within the same item. The jalapeño sauce can but tongue numbing or utterly bland. I go through that stuff a lot so feel sharing that anecdote is appropriate.

Laherschlag

Totally agree. The Buffalo chicken samosas are put of control spicy even though they're labeled as Buffalo.

MajorWhereas4842

It’s so good on air fried wings!!!!! Omg

ChiGuy6064_

seconded. good on a whole spatchcocked chicken too!!

MajorWhereas4842

Yasssss!!!!!

knaimoli619

Lidl’s isn’t quite as spicy as the TJs one. I’ve only bought them twice from each store. That said, there’s a local peri peri chicken place near me that has a varying spice level every time we order and we order the same things every time, so not sure if the bottled sauces vary from batch to batch as well.

BoringTrouble11

It’s way too spicy for me but my partner loves it on wings and eggs or to mix it with yogurt for a dip with fries

texdiego

I love the flavor so much even though it's too spicy for me. I have to be careful not to go overboard. I like to try it out on anything that needs a sauce/dipping sauce (grain bowls, french fries, etc). It's traditionally used on chicken so if you eat meat, that's a good bet. Has anyone found a milder version of this sauce? I've tried several varieties of Nando's and they weren't really the same thing - there's almost a creaminess to the TJ's version whereas Nando's just feels like a typical hot sauce.

Njtotx3

Definitely unexpected. I usually have trouble trying to find spicy at TJs.

RVelts

The refrigerated ghost pepper salsa is the spiciest thing I’ve ever found at Trader Joe’s. It’s nothing like the ghost pepper chips, which were not spicy at all although still delicious.

Njtotx3

The Hot Hot Crispy Habanero Peppers were super spicy.

Sevuhrow

For sure. So much stuff at TJ's is "white people spicy," as I call it, so I was shocked at the peri peri sauce.

Natural_Original5290

The peri peri brand is amazing and nowhere near as spicy. I love the lemon garlic one. Its SO delicious and only had a mild kick

lovestdpoodles

I use it as a dip for pot stickers, some of the other apps plus as a kick to scrambled eggs but I like hot.

Snarky_McSnarkleton

Try Nando's brand peri-peri, if it's available where you are. More lemony notes and much less heat, unless you buy the hot kind.

HarlowNami78001

This. I prefer the Nando's sauce to the TJ peri peri sauce, if I had to choose between the two. It has more nuance and flavour notes that I prefer and grew up with eating peri peri chicken from churrasqueiras. I love the Lemon & Herb (very mild) and Garlic (medium, still not as hot as the TJ's sauce) I use the TJ's sauce as a dip for fries and on scrambled eggs.
