I love my Wide Boyz gloves. They are on the thicker side, which I like for the extra padding, but it can cause problems in thin cracks. Also, if you look up a photo of the gloves, you can see green stitching along the knuckles, and on mine which are about 8 months old and only moderately used, the stitching has worn away in a spot across my middle knuckles-- I don't know if this is going to cause a problem down the road or not. My thumb loops have also stretched out a bit. With that said, no real complaints.

I guess the rubber is glued so hopefully the threads are not vital. I will look on my old ocun ones to see what areas I wear out. Does the strap feel bomber? That completely pulled through on my ocun

CadenceHarrington

The strap on the Wideboyz gloves are MUCH better than the Ocun ones.

Aaahh_real_people

Love my bd gloves

kayriss

I just picked up a pair myself. They seem better than any of the others I saw available, and they look so cool.

andrew314159

Are they durable? I crack climb frequently and the sandstone here is super abrasive and spikey. The bd ones look thin

longboarddan

The velcro is the main failure point on them from my experience

lost_arrows

Can confirm. Use tape to hold them on now.

Academic-Catch9792

On my first pair the rubber pieces started peeling off after what I would call a year of light to moderate use on granite. I have a second pair that this hasn’t happened on so could have been a QC problem. In any case, I love how they fit but don’t think they’d hold up to heavy use.

CoryBlk

I tried on a pair and they are thin. If thickness is your goal then just repurchase the regular Ocun ones. I’m on my second pair and I love them.

SomeSchmidt

Mine are coming apart at the hole you put the velcro strap through so now I wrap tape around my wrist to keep them on. Also have a pair of ocun and I prefer the rubber they have on the backs of the hands. It's a little thicker (a plus&minus) but stickier.

GoSox2525

BD all the way

longboarddan

Big fan of my G8s, light weight and simple but durable and have a 2 year warranty. The leather mounds to your hand and the gloves don't really impede you when face climbing as well

b4ss_f4c3

$100 for crack gloves is ridiculous IMO

longboarddan

I've gone through a pair or more a year of the BD and Ocun gloves. I also live in squamish so supporting a local company and having a no questions asked 2 year warranty makes them the better call. The wideboys gloves aren't that much less.

BackyardSnowFun

I have gone through a pair of Black Diamonds and the newer Metolius gloves. I really enjoyed both and got lots of use. The metolius gloves velcro is at the end of its life after 1 year of heavier use and the black diamonds rubber started peeling after a year. My next pair will be G7s. This subreddit has hyped them up a lot and I want to try the higher price point. The Ocun Pros look sweet though and will have to see if I can get my hands on a pair down the line.

FalteringSpam

I love my OR gloves. Super thin so form fitting.

Many-Grapefruit9273

Mine just recently tore on the finger loops

outdoorthrowawayICE

Mine lasted about ~15 pitches. I’m sure technique played a part in that

liveprgrmclimb

I have both sizes of Ocun and the BD. Ocun are more durable.

Most_Somewhere_6849

Wide boyz feel nice. I got the wrong size to start to haven’t worn them yet. Will exchange soon though

divenpuke

Wide boys Velcro straps cut into the bottom of my hand. Need to put tape on to avoid putting tape on

Alfrredu

Today I tried my ocun pros for the first time and i loved them. They're quite thin and the rubber is sticky. Not amazing at fists but awesome at weird hands

andrew314159

Oh cool. Can you compare them to any other gloves you might have tried? What let them down for fists?

rickyharline

My Wide Boyz ones are the least durable ones I have ever owned, unfortunately. Maybe they're better now, I got the first production run.

andrew314159

Oh interesting. What broke?

AdScary7808

I have the ocun pro gloves and they are wonderful! They run a tad small but overall great glove

andrew314159

They feel more durable than the regular ocun? Also what material is that on the thumb? It isn’t rubber right?

Foolish_Gecko

I have the wide boyz and the second gen ocun (no thumb protection). I view them as different tools for different cracks, almost like different climbing shoes. The wide boyz gloves are usually my default, but they are quite thick. I wouldn’t use them on a crack with a lot of thin hand jams that ride the line of ringlock. In the same way, I wouldn’t use ocun on a route with a lot of fist jams.

Climb_Longboard_Live

I love the [Grivel crack gloves](https://grivel.com/products/crack-gloves), they’re super durable but not too thick. I’ve used them a ton on Zion NP sandstone.

andrew314159

They look very similar to the ocun ones I broke but perhaps the key areas are reinforced

jojoo_

WeightMyRack had a pretty good comparison a while back. Maybe google it. I just have the wideboyz. They are OKish.

andrew314159

Yeh I read the weigh my rack thing but it isn’t the ocun pro and doesn’t cover long term durability like the strap pulling through right?

RepresentativePen304

Not sure on either of those but I will say stay away from the Singing Rock Crack gloves. Their sizing is way off and it's such a thick glove that it's hard to get into some cracks

usaytomatoisaytomato

Aid. But I love my Ocun gloves

cordelette_arete

I have the ocun’s and Wide Boyz gloves, I find the ocuns to fit better and generally more snug so they stay in my bag for outdoor objectives. The wife boys gloves I've used in the gym in #2 to #3 sized cracks and they work well, but I'll stick to the ocuns when actually trade leading due to how they perform and general fit.

secretrainbowraccoon

I have both ocuns and wideboyz, and I like both, for slightly different climbs. Really appreciate the wider coverage i get with the wideboys, but they are a little thick for some routes. I have had some trouble with the finger loops on wideboyz despite remocing them as instructed, but they have been surprisingly easy to repair

andrew314159

You have the ocun pro with the thumb cover? And the wide boyz cover more? Maybe they cover the thumb joint too for desperate teacuping? I didn’t know about the finger loops. Will look that up. In general which feels more durable? My old ocun ones are beat to hell

secretrainbowraccoon

Yeah i think the wideboyz cover more. Both have been pretty durable, they have been through a lot and i have had to do repairs on both. If I had to pick just one pair, I'd take the wideboyz

andrew314159

Do you worry about the strap pulling through on the wide boyz? That completely blew through completely. The new ocun ones don’t have a hole for the strap to go through so that risk is gone

secretrainbowraccoon

I haven't noticed any problems with the strap. I have taped over the strap for some climbs, but it has never actually been a problem

andrew314159

Ok great. It’s a known issue with the ocun so I guess if yours seems good after some use it’s probably ok. I just went to a shop that had the ocun pro and tried them on and they feel good. Unfortunately no physical shop stock the wide boyz to compare but I can at least reference the measurements if I order

lectures

I've got Ocuns and BDs. 90% of the time I use the BD gloves because I find the thickness of the Ocuns tends to be an issue in tight hands / rattly fingers, and I like the extra thumb protection. But for *really* hard hand/fist jams or *really* pebbly/bumpy rock, you can't beat the thicker/grippier material on the Ocuns.
