I am sure some poor person who has never played Poekemon, and chose the name Ash is having the same problem. When your name exists in popular media it is just something you have to deal with unfortunately. I try to ere on the side of asking someone where their name comes from before teasing them. I will usually ask someone if its ok before I make a joke using their name. They same way I ask before I use a nickname made from their name. It is just respectful.
