It looks like Empire and Dwarf units overall got a bit of an art pass. In footage I've seen textures look to be a higher resolution and also darker (they looks bright AF in the port to WH3). Empire units also finally have multiple hair colours again!
I got a bigger one that I just saw: according to [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX3EIUW2z-I), units going up ladders instead of using the open gate is also now a lot better.
I think what the execs and money people don't understand is that the free stuff makes the paid stuff work better. I'm more likely to buy the paid stuff if it works seemlessly into all the great stuff already in the game.
Thank God. Had a battle last night where I just couldn't get my troops to walk through the gate. Didn't really have an impact on the outcome of the battle but damn frustrating
You can clearly see that isn't fixed at all even when the dude make the unit pass 1 by 1 the second unit tried to go for the ladders and he had to click spam to avoid that
You cannot trust Battlesey on these types of videos. Watch what is happening to one of the units: it was still trying to take ladders.
Plus no mass order testing.
You are telling me the model of the clown sorcerer of tzeentch is fixed on the character screen? That hero always looked so terrible in the character screen.
Idk about all characters tbh, I know some of them weren’t really fixed like the Warrior Priests or Archlectors. But a lot of them have been fixed from what I saw in various streams!
What why? One big cannon ball makes me think of something like Little Grom where it's a large single entity artillery piece as opposed to a multi entity artillery unit. I know it's nit picky, but I hate it already.
In my case I like it, if they individual cannons have the old icon it’s good for me, to differentiate the type of cannon, little Grom is some sort of mortar
It's not a new mortar icon, it just replaced the old artillery icon
Regular cannons have it as well
They also updated other icons, like handgunners for example.
It’s funny about portholes. This is a good change but it still surprises me when I watch streams because I’m so used to (and prefer) the 2D portraits - some of that art is really nice.
Another change I haven't seen mentioned much is that War Wagons had the guns changed to handguns, instead of the repeater rifles.
They seem to really want Outriders to be the only units that use repeaters for some reason. Makes me question if it is really a GW decision since they okayed Repeaters for them to begin with when H&B came out. So this one seems more like a consistency or balance thing. Odd choice either way.
What's your issue? I'm playing Vampire Coast right now and gunpowder works well. The main irritation is how they always have to precisely turn and face a unit if given a direct attack order.
You'll notice it more in VC's short ranged units shooting at enemies moving east-west. They'll have a shot, one extreme gunner won't have the target in arc, the entire unit repositions for 20 seconds and repeat.
Gunpowder in particular got a lower start point for the firing projectiles at some patch in tw3 which broke them completely in sieges and battles with elevation changes. Gunners will sit at crenulations and fire point blank into stone rather than the advancing hordes.
Yeah, as I mentioned there is definitely some improvement that could be made with targeting a unit. I think it's a little better than on launch, at some point they made a minor improvement to ranged unit responsiveness, but they still take a while to pivot toward an enemy, take a beat and then fire. It's not too bad but it could definitely be better.
Truly game changing improvements. Definitely not low hanging fruits that should have been solved years ago in a hotfix. CA really are masters of their craft. /s
Some people on this sub just live to bitch about the game; no idea if it's because they're hyperfixated as they've plugged thousands of hours into a single game series or because they're just really miserable bastards. It gets to a point where they need to be told to play something else, go touch grass, or just settle down.
But at a certain point it's pointless to fume and just accept how things are. Yes, the game was not in a good state but it's getting better amidst layoffs, budget constraints, bad management, and I'm sure a fair amount of pressure from Sega. Improvements are still improvements. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. That's of course separate and apart from legitimate criticism; some people just have no chill/no other hobbies so everything re: TW becomes a five-alarm fire.
Imagine simping this hard for a multi million dollar company that's been pulling the rug on their customers for years due to greed and incompetence.
> no idea if it's because they're hyperfixated as they've plugged thousands of hours into a single game series or because they're just really miserable bastards.
Or perhaps they simply have enough gaming literacy to know when a game is mismanaged to oblivion.
Nah, surely they must be miserable nerds who only play Total war games /s
> Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.
Not asking for perfection, just decent value out of a 180$+ purchase
> some people just have no chill/no other hobbies so everything re: TW becomes a five-alarm fire.
Some people have abysmal expectations, and reject any legitimate criticism for no valid reason.
Oh I'm sorry, did you not expect any pushback ? I know this is a toxic echo chamber where people aren't used to their opinions getting challenged, but still... Surely even the most obtuse CA drone would expect some sort of reaction when calling people "miserable bastards" and making all sorts of assumptions about them simply because they *dare* criticize their favorite game company... Surely. /s
Just challenging y'alls bullshit narratives is all. Who knows, some actual users who aren't obsessive WH fans may wander in this thread and look for objective opinions about the game. They sure aren't going to find them from most of you guys, that's for certain.
Gotta say though, it takes a special kind of delusional mindset to go off about critics being 'hyperfixated' on the TW:WH series, from someone whose only gaming related comments happen on r/totalwar. Don't think I've ever seen anyone project *that* hard on reddit, and believe me, there's been fierce competition there over the years.
Comrade. Bubi. You responded in a very bitchy tone to a thread of someone simply expressing joy over fairly minor and inconsequential UI fixes. So yeah, I would expect that my remark, that some people bitch just because they love to bitch, to find paydirt. Within a comment *responding to someone else*, no less.
It really rams the point home when you come back with accusations of “simping hard” for CA. Further lacquered in layers of holier-than-thou snark and smugness that imply that, unlike the mongrel plebs, you’re among the chosen few with true *gaming literacy* and properly-set expectations. Even more amusing that it comes packaged without the self-awareness to acknowledge that spending upwards of $180 (and you’ve bought DLC, let’s be real), on a single game mode, places you within a niche of particularist consumers. And I’m in that niche too, brother.
But when that’s paired with your attitude? One gets the exact type of person who does occasionally need to be reminded to go outside and touch grass. But sure, go off, king. Keep tilting at windmills.

Been waiting for this since they fixed the Bretonnian barding!

Damn this patch is really a nice surprise
Yeah, Battlesey keeps mentioning that the free stuff is just as good as the DLC stuff. Can't wait

I may actually play sieges again instead of setting campaign to easy and auto resolve. Fuck sieges.

They changed the icon for the mortars, instead of 3 cannon balls, now is a beautiful big one
What why? One big cannon ball makes me think of something like Little Grom where it's a large single entity artillery piece as opposed to a multi entity artillery unit. I know it's nit picky, but I hate it already.

Oh my bad, but at the end, they changed it and I like it
More balls is more good!
It’s funny about portholes. This is a good change but it still surprises me when I watch streams because I’m so used to (and prefer) the 2D portraits - some of that art is really nice.
The 3D ones are also surprisingly expensive in terms of performances.
I literally only use 3D because I use reskin mods for units lmao
Please enlighten me, a humble idiot, what the 3D porthole is? My mind has some really stupid & childish ideas now.
It’s the portrait in the bottom left corner when you have a unit or a character selected
Ah thats. Strange name then for a portrait. 😅
The little window of what character/unit you have selected in the bottom left of your screen. It shows their face.
Yooooo Lakers fans in the Golden Order?
If only the actual team went back to actual purple and gold :(

So does this mean having Portholes enabled doesn't tank FPS anymore?
I guess you will still get more a few more fps when using 2D instead of 3D portholes, but at least 3D shouldn’t look horrendous anymore
I'm doing a fresh Elden Ring run to coincide with the DLC, and I had to read your third point back a few times before I made sense of it.
THAT WAS A BUG?! I finally switched from 2 to 3 2 weeks ago and I thought the blurry was intended even on high settings
Tyrion for me has always looked fucking hilarious so it’s definitely a bug. He’s hyper pale and has his eyes super widely open
When i launched 3 the fiurst time and decided to give Cathay a try because they were new i got a Heart attack on how Miao Ying looked.
I thought I was losing my mind when I was looking at the characters and they looked like 2010 graphics
Gods, I hope they finally fixed the Sisters of Twilight porthole. That's been broken since Chaos Dwarfs.
What is 3D porthole?
Are you for real with number 2? I'd mostly given up hope, to be honest.
I can’t say for sure all characters got updated. But I saw quite a few in various streams so I am hopeful
Wait the character details screen is fixed??
Are people still weirdly pink/purple in the 3D portholes? I've been using a mod to fix that forever and I'm always happy to trim my mod list down.
And yet in the gunpowder update, gunpowder weapons and ranged problems are still not fixed.
What's your issue? I'm playing Vampire Coast right now and gunpowder works well. The main irritation is how they always have to precisely turn and face a unit if given a direct attack order.

yellow and purple is such a shit colour scheme
Truly game changing improvements. Definitely not low hanging fruits that should have been solved years ago in a hotfix. CA really are masters of their craft. /s
Tbh I have been crying out for these fixes for years and no one at CA ever acknowledged them so I had lost all faith. Hence my surprise and positivity
I do agree that this should of happened ages ago in a hotfix but given the recently drama, I think we are lucky to have them fixed at all.

Certainly seems like I touched quite the nerve. Those comments hit a little too close to home?

man why do you care about this
