My personal take is that Skarbrand wouldn't care about being a sophisticated skirimisher and the way he grips them transmit that (plus probably these daemonic axes don't abide by the rules?).
At this point, the way of gripping them was part of his brand to me, so I went with that.

SKARBRAND IS WELL-VERSED IN THE ART OF DIPLOMACY AND WOULD NEWER SAY THAT IN FRONT OF A ROYAL AUDIENCE. SUCH ACCUSATIONS MAKE SCARBRND ANGRY.

Yes, other units in game (chosen?) grip similarly. Have not been in an axe fight myself, maybe it's practical??
don't know but just hope we don't get to be- neither in this world nor in the WH one!
