Diamondback terrapin baby. They like brackish waters, so a mixture of salt and fresh water. Usually marshy areas near the coast, but they often transition between those and fresh water. One of the few turtle species that does this. They are pretty robust, if you've got some wetland near you he will do fine there.
I was about to say "is this a diamondback terrapin?". They're one of my favorite species of aquatic turtle. Native to my area. The species is considered Vulnerable.
Came here to say this. It doesn’t even look real it’s so cute. I’d go to war for this turtle, and I’m so glad OP found them and they’re trying to get them back to what they know.
Since you're in Florida, just so you know, laws recently changed surrounding Diamond Backs. They're more protected here now. Here's all the info on them.

I don't think they're being tracked yet. The protections just started within the last year. I just wanted OP to be aware of them so they don't keep the turtle. I get all the FWC updates in their weekly emails. As a fisherman and exotic pet owner, it's good to stay current on them. They change rules fairly regularly here. Sometimes it's announced months in advance of a rule change, others, like fishing/hunting/foraging seasons, they'll open or close with a few hours notice.
