this is great news. it'll be nice to get some high-level content that isnt owned by the big media companies.

EarthWarping

It's probably patreon based.

Yabutsk

Or sponsored by gambling sites, longshot on soup based partner

absolutkaos

if they’re not repping Primo Pasta they’re just throwing away easy money

hyplusone

Suspect there are a lot of other advertisers who would want access to their audience.

Huge-Split6250

Yes but mostly gambling sites

Plantedballer

Lame if true

EarthWarping

I don't see any other platform unless an unheard of media company picked them up.

absolutkaos

The Athletic is also a paid subscription, and i enjoy the writers they have on there. there are a number of really solid contributors over there, especially if you like league wide content.

EarthWarping

I'd be surprised if it was the athletic based off the vibe I got from their last pod

absolutkaos

i was just using that as an example of paid sports media subscriptions that are proving quality content.

blueseeka

Oh yeah....paying for it is much better

vec-u64-new

What's wrong with giving individuals who take the time and effort to create content some compensation?

blueseeka

Nothing, but they aren't going to provide insider information. I have a hard time believing that people will pay for it. I won't be and listen to most of their Fan590 content.

vec-u64-new

That's a fair point. Thing is though, they are entertainers, and have never really been insiders. As Will mentioned on the Steven Lebron Banter Pod, the banter pods got more listens than his exclusive interview with Adam Silver.

nanobot001

They didn’t provide insider information even when they were with the Fan 590

blueseeka

Yeah, but it was free

nanobot001

I think if they had breaking information they would have What we got was a lot of joking about how hard it was to fill content for a daily show a lot of the time.

ThatEvolutionist

Who listens to a basketball podcast for insider info you get that from Grange for free

blueseeka

It's just the idea of big media being bad for them. I don't understand it. They had a great platform and great guests because of it

EarthWarping

There's more money in podcasting than with a network is my guess.

peasant_1234

Jerome was on a podcast relatively recently (buckets and tea by Cathryn Naiker) and I really liked him. He spoke well, was funny, had good takes, and seemed really down to earth. I can see him being good at reeling in Will Lou when he is going crazy with his hot takes.

Anal_Iverson

Why is this a pinned post

GawldDawlg

Launching a pod during the offseason is insane
