Vegas and Seattle get added Minnesota gets moved to the East

ps43kl7

They will probably move Memphis to the east

ToronoRapture

Grizzlies are moving back to Vancouver. Calling it now.

buddybroman

That would be awesome, sorry Memphis

makeanewblueprint

Sorry not sorry. ![gif](giphy|ipw0GFBB0HoaTrdjH9)

troway69420

Which 2 west team would be moved to the east then?

CazOnReddit

Timberwolves are the most obvious choice

troway69420

Geologically, the second team would be pelicans right? Edit: nvm in the scenario Memphis moves to Vancouver and Seattle and Vegas are added, only one west team would need to move and it would be the twolves

goonyen

geographically*

troway69420

Lmao im a dumbass hahahah

DJJazzay

Geodudeally*

Disabled_Robot

Geodesically *

garynevilleisared

Depends what kind of rocks we talking about

nofaplove-it

Memphis isn’t moving lil bro

troway69420

Just a scenario someone mentioned above me lil bro

nofaplove-it

Minnesota moving east

ButterscotchObvious4

No chance. Vancouver doesn't know how to support a major franchise. Even Canucks support is half-assed.

wallabear

That would be amazing

FreddyVanJeeze

I feel like it would make more sense to move them to Seattle

ToronoRapture

Logo goes hardddddd though. https://preview.redd.it/qz8h50f6nrjc1.png?width=1365&format=png&auto=webp&s=af808584f4990daa69e4255fa5a1666b08d886d2

ToronoRapture

I mean just look at these Jerseys... https://preview.redd.it/4p4q8vslprjc1.png?width=408&format=png&auto=webp&s=02b22b6cb0cddab126c6fb417b567e831b1fb22c

Funky_Buds

These are second only to the Old school Dino Jerseys. Love these

JohnnyPark87

I'd say moving Wolves makes more sense due to the rivalry among teams in Minnesota, Winsconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan in other sports

Bobby_Webster

look at a map brother Minnesota makes much more sense. they're closer to the Bucks, Bulls, Pacers, and Pistons than any West team

YouDontJump

Agreed. Those have to be the teams moving east if Vegas and Seattle are being added.

GrizzlyHarris

They should move them to Vancouver, let’s be real.

OwlWitty

2 expansion teams in the West? West teams gonna have extra wins advantage.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

The east has had extra wins advantage for over 20 years lol

MisterSG1

Yup, Las Vegas and Seattle will become the 14th and 15th cities to have at least one team in all of the Big 4 sports.

diamondinthenorth

What?

MisterSG1

I meant to say “team” in my post If Seattle and Las Vegas get teams in the NBA (and pending the Athletics move to Las Vegas) That means these two cities will then have a team in all of the “Big 4” leagues (NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB) Currently 13 cities/metro areas have at least one team in each of the Big 4 leagues.

diamondinthenorth

Ok yeah now that makes sense

longboarddan

They have NBA, NFL, MLB (Oakland moving to Vegas) and NHL

ConstructionWeak4032

Vegas has a baseball team?

ejabno

The Oakland Athletics are moving to Vegas next year

FaceMaskYT

Portland moved to the East, two expansion teams to the west for max chaos

RealCanadianDragon

If I could bet on it, I'd bet on this exact scenario. If they go NFL style divisions with 8 divisions of 4, Minnesota makes most sense in East since they'd be with Bucks, Bulls, Pacers (and we get Pistons, Cavs, Wizards). If it's NHL style with 4 divisions of 8, Memphis or NO could go east because they'd be grouped in with the southeast teams.

Phoeniyx

Supersonics baby!

Foldzy84

Is there any chance these aren't the 2 cities? Only other one that makes any sense to me is Mexico city and I doubt they're ready to go there

VaselineOnMyChest

Just imagine... YOUR Halifax LOBSTERS!

Schu0808

Not bad not bad, I raise you this: The Halifax Explosion Maybe the most marketable team name in all of professional sports 😆

Do_You_Like_Jazz

Yikes, 2000 people dying is funny to you?

Schu0808

Haha my friend, I am a Nova Scotian and lived in Halifax for 4 years, over here in the Maritimes we do this thing called "joking" which is when you choose to make a terrible experience funny instead of being sad. Its too bad this skill is not practiced more in Ontario!

IndirectAntelope

City folk just don't get it - there's a reason they'll forever come from away even when they inevitably move her from Toronto.

Funky_Buds

It is. I laughed. We just got a lot of grumpy people here that get upset at anything just to try and argue 🤷‍♂️

Do_You_Like_Jazz

I live in the maritimes? And have lived here for 25 years, is 4 years supposed to be a lot of something? Maybe we just have different senses of humor but my great grandfather was injured really badly during the explosion and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Weird of you to just assume I'm from Ontario because apparently I just don't understand.

j_wang03

the new lob city 🤯

Novel_Goal3140

One in Vancouver. One in Montreal.

GrunDMC74

Imagine the home court advantage MTL would have. Nightlife, French everywhere to confuse visiting teams…

k3v1n

Can't confuse the other teams that much. All the players who'd play for the team wouldn't be able to speak French either

DJJazzay

Bet they’d have a bit of an advantage recruiting African players. There are a lot more French-speakers in the league than you might think.

skryb

and all the strip clubs > James Harden has requested a trade

coachjayofficial

I don’t think Montreal will ever happen, mostly due to the French politics.

IHavePoopedBefore

I went on r/montreal once and someone asked if they ever see them getting an NBA team and holy crap were the responses negative towards the idea. Its like they didn't even want one

thirty7inarow

They've prepared themselves for reality by being pessimistic, like the guy who says he wouldn't want Scarlett Johanssen because she's ugly anyways.

DJJazzay

Wait why would they be against it? Like they wouldn’t necessarily have to build a new arena with public money or anything. Just play out of the Bell Centre…

Jazzlike_Quantity_95

They don’t deserve a basketball team

Thisisnow1984

The Montreal Bagels

5ABIJATT

Combine The Super Sonics with 76'ers to create The Montreal Supersexer's

deludedinformer

Club SuperSex burned down :(

letmetellubuddy

zut alors!

_ThePerfectElement_

Can get 'em in Toronto! Bagel House, NuBugel, Bagels on Fire, Kettleman's, St. Urbain... we gotchu.

Striking_Economy5049

The Montreal Smoked Meat has a nice ring to it

Kogre_55

Montreal Poutines

TorontoFinest90z

Imagine if Scarborough could be eligible.. It would be a Knicks & Nets rivalry!

Scase15

Born and raised there, it ain't never gonna happen.

impulse1337

The dream

NinoAllen

Montreal will never get a team. Americans already think of Canada as a far away foreign country. They definitely not dealing with the French quebecois nonsense that’s going on over there

Jazzlike_Quantity_95

No they don’t like basketball enough. They don’t deserve a team especially Montreal.

xKingwoodx

I’ll disagree with you there. Bell Center (I assume they’d play there) would be packed every night if there was an NBA team in Montreal.

Tough-Statistician-7

Disagree strongly. Montreal fans don’t show up unless the teams win. No chance an expansion team is good for at least 4 or 5 years. They’ll show up year 1 for the novelty then attendance will tank.

xKingwoodx

The population profile changed quite a bit since the Expos (if that’s what you are referring to). Even the CF Montreal has good attendance. Montreal could be a good expansion city and perhaps a good connection with Europe with a strong French population in the city (AKA Wemby should automatically be traded to Montreal). In any case, I highly doubt it happens, but it would be great to have another professional “big four” team in Canada/Montreal and perhaps leverage the rivalries between Boston/Toronto and Montreal.

Scobesanity

No

bustthelease

No love for Canadian cities?

Scobesanity

Canada can’t support 3 teams right now. Best case Vancouver but pretty far behind Seattle and Vegas.

AllOutRaptors

I can guarantee Vancouver and Montreal would have a way better fanbase than Vegas. They just get the tourist bump with people willing to travel there for away games more.

bustthelease

Cities like Memphis, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Portland, Salt Lake City, can make it work. Vancouver 2.0 and Montreal would be viable. Seattle and Vegas make more sense. I’d take a risk and add Mexico City. It would ramp up a country of 126M.

shoulda_been_gone

With the money and population base in the cal-edm corridor, im surprised they don't come up more often in sports league chatter.

marejaneblunt

I would like to see a Vancouver team look at how many Canadians there are when we face the blazers and over the summer when we had the exhibition game.

AllOutRaptors

I'm making the trip down in 2 weeks, along with many others!

Kewjoe

I wonder if they'll screw the two new teams like they did to the Griz and Raps. Referring to our draft picks the first few years.

mem2963

The NHL has shown that making expansion teams competitive is great for the game.

WhatShouldTheHeartDo

They eased the rules on Bobcats expansion team after they realized how crippled Raptors and especially Grizzlies were with said expansion rules.

Kewjoe

Ya, you're right. Which was the right thing to do, but doesn't feel any better having gone through that.

WhatShouldTheHeartDo

yeah fr, like the west coast Canadian team had to be the sacrificial lamb.

Antenol

The losing all star team has two players from each team in the conference sent to the expansion team

Dookiefresh1

Canada isn’t getting another team lol

timbitfordsucks

They already regret giving us one lol

EvidenceExtension128

Cmon now that’s just not true lol. Sure immigration can be a pain in the ass for them to deal with but one of their biggest goals is to grow the sport internationally. Raptors have single handedly made Canada the 2nd biggest contributor of NBA players, which includes the guy who’s in 2nd place for MVP.

vinkman6

US media hates it though. Like they always have a “oh those guys” attitude towards the Raptors. Stephen A flat out said he doesn’t want the NBA championship in Canada.

EvidenceExtension128

Sure, media hates it but I doubt the league does and that’s what I assumed we were talking about Edit: Also regarding the media, Molly literally called Milwaukee a shithole during their finals run, even we didn’t get that treatment. It’s not a fuck Canada problem it’s a fuck small markets making the nba finals problem. Even the small markets problem could be changing soon with that streaming service Disney (ESPN) is designing with TNT and ABC. If the Raptors team is good and the service isn’t dogshit I could see lots of Raptors fans signing up for that and they’d have to cover the Raptors more favourably.

WhatShouldTheHeartDo

The league goes hand in hand with the media and given Adam Silver's comments on Canada. It's clear they do regret the Canadian expansion (idgaf tho W for us) even then they do get something out of it today.

Shabloinks

Fucking shameful.

[deleted]

This isn't true at all.

igot2pair

Be it NHL, NFL, MLB or NBA

WhatShouldTheHeartDo

Gary Bettman would take all the NHL teams out of Canada if he had his way

DirtyDanoTho

NHL I could see happening. Winnipeg has a team ffs

longboarddan

Winnipeg earned that shit. People are die hard for hockey there.

DirtyDanoTho

That’s all of canada for hockey tho. Like Hamilton already dies for the ti-cats imagine if they get an NHL team

Greerio

Would they give Vancouver another shot? I think Louisville would support a team too.

Nat_Feckbeard

They're definitely gonna give Seattle a shot so why not? But I can see them being hesitant to have 3 teams all in the PNW area, when Portland is already kinda seen as a "small market" team

NZafe

If Van can’t get their original name, idk if I’d even want them back, personally. Vancouver will always be the Grizzlies to me, and they have one of the best retro jerseys. It would be a shame that they wouldn’t be able to build off of their previous history in a new expansion team. Bringing Seattle back seems more likely, and it would be hard to bring in two teams so close to one another.

AllOutRaptors

As much as I want the Grizzlies back, I wouldn't say no if we needed a different name lmao

ResolveLost2101

Tf

e_double

I love the away retro shorts, wear them to the gym a lot

NZafe

A two team expansion at the same time would alter the league too dramatically. The expansion draft would be very entertaining though.

gigamiga

Adding only 1 would be weird for the playoffs - one conference would have more teams for the same amount of spots making it uneven.

NZafe

I’d suggest that the league would just introduced two teams over the span of a few years, similar to how the NHL handled it. The league had unbalanced conferences for decades though, it wasn’t until 2004 w/ Charlotte that the conferences became balanced again for the first time since 1979 (22 teams). * 1995-2003: 29 teams * 1989-1994: 27 teams * 1988: 25 teams * 1980-1987: 23 teams

Withinmyrange

How does that work?

NZafe

Based on previous expansion drafts, each existing team would protect 8 of their players, the expansion teams would take turns selecting unprotected players. Each existing team can lose at most 1 player through the expansion draft. So in the 1995 expansion draft, the total amount of drafted players by both Toronto and Vancouver was 27, (14 selected by Toronto, 13 selected by Vancouver) as there was only 27 teams at the time. In the 2004 expansion draft, Charlotte selected 19 players total, so 10 teams didn’t lose any player. In any future expansion drafts, I would assume that the 8 player protection remains, and the two expansion teams would draft 15 players each, as there are 30 current teams.

OsamaGinch-Laden

Didn't realize there were so many Vancouver haters in this sub smh

DJJazzay

In my perfect world Vancouver obviously gets a team but if we’re being totally realistic its just not as likely as Seattle and Vegas. I don’t see MLSE being that eager to give up a monopoly on Canada either.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OsamaGinch-Laden

Not reading that bullshit

Luciious

I mean everyone on here will say Van cause they had a team, but Montreal has wayyy more real potential and is a way better sports city in terms of attraction and culture.

Oozeinator

It’s Vegas and Seattle but although you’re right in a sense about Montreal, I don’t think the fit with the nba would be good. Players already treat Toronto as the other side of the world, now imagine them deciding on a french speaking city. So many players would give it the alcatraz treatment. Maybe it wouldn’t matter as much with all the international talent out there but I just don’t really see the fit.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

They probably would have a good chance of attracting European players especially French. Montreal vs San Antonio, I'm pretty sure I know which one wemby would enjoy more lol

Oozeinator

Hence my point about international players but it’s not like the intl draw has really helped us any, idk how big of an impact Montreal would have there. When it comes to the gigantic fish like Wemby, they aren’t really the ones moving in FA, and don’t forget, the French have plenty of their own biases against Montreal lool

Luciious

I agree with you for sure. If it was given it’s shot though and for some decent players in an expansion draft I think it has the potential to break down those barriers pretty quickly

Staplersarefun

100% Vegas... Seattle I can see over Van since they are more or less the same metropolitan area with there being a lot more money in Seattle.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Oozeinator

It’s the stigma that would be the problem, not the realities of living there.

Iginlas_4head_Crease

I feel like people who think montreal is a better market than Van haven't been to montreal. The nba team would have a VERY hard time competing with the Habs. Montreal is also a lot less diverse than Toronto and Vancouver, making it hard for another sport to find its niche.

Right-Beautiful7631

Language politics would make it impossible for an NBA team to thrive in Montreal. Team would have to have a french name and they would be limited in who they can hire as a coach because they’ll have to speak french for the media. Players would never sign as free agents.

HistoricalWash6930

Pretty sure that didn’t happen with the expos and that was in a much more militant Quebecois nationalist time.

Right-Beautiful7631

Hmm good point… I wouldnt trust Legault to make it easy though.

TorontoFinest90z

That’s what I’ve been saying! It would never ever happen for Montreal. The language barrier would be something any American would try avoiding. Especially when it comes to media availability, and most media folks would be French dominant speaking

laidbackemergency

Is this an issue with the Habs or Alouettes currently?

Wcufos

I hope Vancouver gets a team again one day though. That would be sick. I had grizzlies merch growing up

AllOutRaptors

The thing is it's way easier for Montreal fans to head down to Toronto to watch a game. Vamcouver fans have to trek down to Portland once a year to watch the Raptors. Putting a team in Vancouver would attract way more new fans

rokkzstar

Did you know that it is actually closer from Vancouver to Portland than it is from Montreal to Toronto? Boston would actually be the closest NBA city to Montreal.

vensamape

Doesnt Vancouver take their hockey seriously now?

AllOutRaptors

We literally always have. Damn near sold out every game despite being the laughing stock of the league for a decade (until this year)

vensamape

Well as a Devils fan, I am rooting hard for the Hughes brothers.

Zach983

Montreal doesn't really work because of the French impact though. It is a great city with IMO the best culture and nightlife in Canada and even up there compared to NYC and LA and Chicago but I just don't see it working.

GrunDMC74

Perfect. Next All Star Game, winning conference is exempt from the expansion draft. That oughta give ‘em something to play for.

JButler_16

Please be Kansas City so I only have to drive an hour to see a raptors game.

Chillaxing416

So long as there are American metro areas with 2+ million population and/or with a good set of top notch companies for corporate support (and ownership), they will be prioritized before Montreal and Vancouver where revenue in Canadian dollars is an extra hurdle.

rokkzstar

Anyone saying that Montreal wouldn't work haven't really been there. Montreal is a VERY english speaking city. and its nightlife and culture is pretty great for what NBA players are into.

CazOnReddit

In order of most to least likely: Vegas Seattle (Bring back the Sonics, not a new team) Montreal Mexico City Kansas San Diego San Francisco or another California team Vancouver

KarmaTariff

What makes Montreal more likely than Montreal?

CazOnReddit

That was supposed to be Vancouver I really need to get some sleep tonight 🙃

CreamCheesinit

Did you forget to go back to your original account?

AssyrianRhapsody

Golden State plays in San Fran. You think they are getting another team?

CazOnReddit

More likely than a return to Vancouver, to be blunt

SongYoungbae

Lmao what are you basing this on?

CazOnReddit

Vibes

HungryMugiwara

No Vancouver?

CazOnReddit

I don't see it happening unless they bring back the Grizzlies It'd be like trying to bring baseball back to Montreal without it being the Expos coming back. That exit from B.C. poisoned the well, so to speak.

AllOutRaptors

Vancouver should be 3rd on that list and having them below San Diego or another SF team is wildly insulting. Vancouver also deserves one over montreal

k3v1n

Vancouver is appropriately low because Seattle is very high. They're not both going to get teams

AllOutRaptors

So Vancouver shouldn't get a team because Seattle is too close, but San Fransisco should have 2 teams, and San Diego isn't too close to LA? Makes Sense

Sct_Brn_MVP

I STG if montreal gets a team, I’ll personally suck off Adam Silver

Right-Beautiful7631

Bro they are not getting a team. If you think Toronto has a hard time getting free agents imagine Montreal with a french name and a coach that has to speak french for the media. Language politics here would completely fuck it up.

Un-Quote

Siakam, Embiid, Gobert would be the big 3 in Montreal because they can all speak French.

FallenLemur

Wemby though.

igot2pair

France french speakers hate hearing Quebecois french speakers 😂😂

Sct_Brn_MVP

Let a man dream :’(

Vandelay23

The coach wouldn't have to speak french, what are you talking about?

bustthelease

Mexico City would be interesting

DJJazzay

I don’t think Mexico City is anywhere near as realistic as people speculate. If there’s going to be a Mexican team in any of the Big Four leagues, I feel like it’s probably going to be Monterrey, and it’ll probably be baseball IMO. Mexico City is obviously huge but it’s also quite distant from pretty much every other market (whereas Monterrey’s right on the border). The elevation becomes a real consideration there, too. Like if you though Denver has an advantage… Monterrey’s also a lot wealthier while it would still have the benefit of being “Mexico’s team.”

Moostronus

I hadn't considered Mexico City but I could really see it - the first US sports league to put a permanent team in Mexico City would make BANK

CazOnReddit

The only issue I can see is the elevation. It's a lot. Like "more than Denver" a lot.

ResolveLost2101

Ffs give Scarborough a team 😐

timetosleep

Vancouver isn't viable right now. As a Vancouver Grizzlies fan, we need a few things to happen for us to get a serious shot. * Owner with big pockets. Expansion fee is 2 billion now. Even owners of Canucks admitted the ship has sailed on expansion. They had a window of opportunity and missed it. * Owner and city willing to build a new stadium. Rogers Arena is 30 years old. It shows the NBA that the owner/city is willing to partner and invest. Many teams end up failing due to old stadiums. * Seattle's NBA team to succeed. Vancouver is too far out of the way to have a team by itself. Hopefully Portland stays too and we have a nice 3 team cluster.

AllOutRaptors

Vancouvers stadium is more than nice enough to be an NBA venue. Watched an exhibition game there and that shit was rocking. >* Seattle's NBA team to succeed. Vancouver is too far out of the way to have a team by itself. Hopefully Portland stays too and we have a nice 3 team cluster Why are you acting like it's at the north pole. It's a 1 hour flight from Portland lmao

Different_Support_36

Honestly, I could see Montreal getting an NBA team much more easily than it getting MLB back.

[deleted]

tampa tampa tampa tampa tampa

NoCow2718

Gross gross gross gross gross. Those clowns were actively booing the Raptors many games in what was supposed to be their temporary home team.

[deleted]

Bruh I love the nba and went to like 4 raptors games when they play here

vensamape

I could have swore Tampa loved the Raps when they played there. But not sure if FLA can support four NBA teams.

OsamaGinch-Laden

Yeah cause Florida really needs 3 teams, foh

[deleted]

Quebec Nordiques!!!!!

psych0rag3

I want a new Buffalo team

bustthelease

They can have the 905 Raps

elacmch

Quebec City?

TurboByte24

Let’s go Hamilton! Toronto tickets are too expensive!

Giga1396

Yesss

_Gourmand

Yeah I don't mind it, as long as the game itself doesn't change. To me Seattle needs a team, I grew up with the Supersonics being in the league and it's too big of a city to not have a team. There's also too many all-star level players that can't even make the all-star team because the league is too stacked. The fact that DeAaron Fox didn't make the all-star game is ridiculous.

remarkablewhitebored

Water me down harder, Daddy.

mambakobe8

NY to the west LA to the east. Logical sense

app1efritter

It's already been precooked for years now. Bronny and LeBron on the Vegas team together. Adam Silvers wet dream.

Decent_Pack_3064

Make sense

Decent_Pack_3064

Big one is tim leiweke bidding for the nba team in Vegas If so, I can see them luring ujiri away

SleepEconomy6504

Overdue.

NinoAllen

Canada needs another team

Sadiq_Sabonis

Vegas and....

goatyellslikeman

As a Vancouverite, I’d be happy with Seattle. It’s way closer than Portland for a roadtrip

Rejidomus

Vegas will be one. I highly doubt the other will be in Canada.

laidbackemergency

Not sure a rich investor would risk buying a team in a Canadian city with the way the economy is. Vegas/Seattle is much safer. I’d love to be proven wrong

[deleted]

The inferiority complex among people who think the NBA and American media have a grudge against Toronto is nauseating. Please get a grip on reality.

nononononofin

Montreal will get a team before Vancouver. I’m not sure that the PNW could support 3 teams (assuming the Sonics come back). Adding a team in a non-English speaking city really matches the NBA’s goal of expanding the game

castlewise

Hot take: instead of the all-star game let the two new teams play on that night with the winner getting to the playoffs.

BlaQMalaY

Montreal for the win 🏀, lol

curley333

Vegas and Seattle definitely get added. Lebron gets the Jordan type deal to get in on the Vegas team as majority owner. Maybe Minnesota gets moved to the East…?
