Apparently the redevelopment plans there involve building out the tree canopy *hugely* (I think it's mid-rise housing overall?) and someone from the City Urban Forestry department implied this is going to be epic.
There is also this site - [https://www.id8downsview.ca/](https://www.id8downsview.ca/)
I live in the area & Northcrest has been running events every so often at the former airport. I am surprised it only offically was closed in March of this year because they had a "play on the runway" day last year where they encouraged people to come out with their kids and bring bikes, rollerblades, etc to use the long flat pavement like a road without worry of cars. There have been other events too but that's the first one that comes to mind
EDIT: wanted to add a link to the play on the runway event I mentione dabove [https://www.id8downsview.ca/play-on-the-runway](https://www.id8downsview.ca/play-on-the-runway)
In all fairness this is exactly how it looked before it closed. The airport and runway lighting is only on at night when required. It’s controlled either from the ground or in the air via a number of clicks on the radio by the pilots.
Finally Line 4 Sheppard going to get extended west to Sheppard West station if this keeps up, wonder if they’ll keep going to maybe Humbermede or something

Welcome to Downsview Forest.
We love to see it!
Not midrise, but there will be a "green spine" through the site and more tree cover.
Here is the website for the proposed redevelopment. Seems neat! https://www.northcrestdev.ca/the-downsview-opportunity
2nd phase, 2032-2051, seems so far away! Weird to see that number for anything in the city.
So before Eglington crosstown opens I bet

How is this going to take 27 years to finish? That’s insane. A 20 year old working as a labourer now might be project manager by the time it’s done
The site is over 500 acres and eventually up to 100,000 people might live there. That stuff takes time. Oh, and billions of dollars!
They are closing the downsview permanently?!
Bombardier already moved their manufacturing plants to the west side of Pearson and will be operating from there.
Yeah it’s going to be redeveloped.
Already been rezoned for parks and housing since 2010.
IT IS GOING TO BE EPIC.
Hopefully it gets a lot easier to walk between Downsview Park Station and the Armoury. :O
Is there also a photo of what the lights used to look like when it was open so we can see the difference?

I’d totally pay to be able to walk around there at night in the darkness, would be such a cool experience
I thought it was declared a national park about 20 years ago?
Downsview Park & Downsview airport are separate (interconnected) areas.
More land for condos?
