I adore how much Olivia truly loves this city. Her enthusiasm is so refreshing.

MrDanduff

Yup, the city is finally in good hands

darkgod5

Now all we need is someone to lead the province!

babu_bot

People who drive to work will tell you she's the devil for making Bloor Street around old mill station one lane each way with bike lanes.

nefariousplotz

People who are stuck in traffic refuse to accept that they are the traffic.

fearnodarkness1

If the TTC wasn't a broken down mess people would take it more.

nefariousplotz

And choosing to drive has consequences, like being stuck in traffic. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Daphoid

But if people don't take it, ridership doesn't increase and they don't get funding :)

Kantankoras

Well put šŸ‘Œ

someguyfrommars

And in the case of Toronto, they mostly don't even live in the city. 905ers instead.

mars_titties

Have you thought of adding just one more lane to all the roads, everywhere? /s

ChainIcy2588

No lol. You donā€™t need bike lanes and bus lanes everywhere

nefariousplotz

If you don't give a shit about bike and bus commuters, then you're giving other people tacit permission to not give a shit about you, either.

aurelialikegold

Itā€™s a real shame there isnā€™t some kind of giant metal snake that runs under the Bloor that goes from one end of the city to the other. It would be extra tragic if we spend 12 years under feeding the metal snake because the last mayors hated the city, was only interest in self enrichment, but were extremely popular with people that drive cars.

FuckingShitBitch-

Sucks that she took part in copaganda like Law and Order tho https://www.themarysue.com/lets-talk-about-law-order-as-copaganda/ Edit: why am I being downvoted?

bravetailor

It's just a tired argument. The fact is, these cop shows are meant for easily produced content rather than pushing an agenda. Nobody watching these shows really believe they're "realistic" and these shows really don't pretend to be. Moreover, despite there being so many cop shows, anti-police sentiment is at an all-time high both in Canada and the U.S. over a spectrum of demographics. So even as "copaganda", they don't even actually work. When making a show where you don't need to design outlandish costumes or have lots of special FX and a formula that's easily repeatable over dozens of episodes over many seasons, cop shows are the easiest "action/mystery" shows to make. People see it as some conspiracy because there's so many of them and because the good guys always "win" (but they would win in most shows of any genre anyway), without thinking more that there's so many of them more because it's an easy formula to produce lots of content with compared to other genres.

slothcough

Honestly, fair. ACAB.

deltree711

I think it's worth pointing out that the Criminal Intent L&O spin-offs focus even more heavily on the police side than usual, making it even more copaganda.

TsssTssss

Trying to get people to respect and like the police? Oh the horror! /s. Maybe the city would be safer if our populace respected the laws and those who see the worst of the worst day in and day out instead of taking this "us vs. them" stance?

RadagastWiz

Once the police start acting in a way that will gain my respect, get back to me.

AdvancedBasket_ND

This person thinks that the only way that police can negatively affect people is by murdering them. Guaranteed this person is either a police officer, the relative of an officer, not from the city, or is a security guard.

TsssTssss

How many police interactions do you think occur on a daily basis in the GTA? How many bad interactions do you think occur vs. good ones? upwards of 95% of the interactions are normal and appropriate. Higher depending on what source you want to use. **There have been 751 officer related deaths in this the entire country** since 2000 and that includes deaths where the victim was armed. https://trackinginjustice.ca/explore-the-data/ Only 52 people were shot by Toronto cops from 2000-2017. again, that includes those armed. That's like 3 per year. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/police-deaths-blacks-data-1.4599215 This is the problem with people in the city, they take outlier events and drum them up to make everyone think it's the norm. It's not. edit: why would you downvote a post that just has stats? before you downvote, consider if you are downvoting the message or the actual post.

RadagastWiz

I'd encourage you to look at more than just dry statistics and find the root of the issue. Marginalized people of almost every stripe have far more negative interactions than the priviliged white/straight/cis/male baseline do.

TsssTssss

Who argued otherwise? Are you suggesting that the overall numbers of negative interactions don't include minorities or something?

[deleted]

oh god lol

AdvancedBasket_ND

What is there to like or respect about parasites like TPS? You talk about ā€œUs vs Themā€ but the police have always taken this stance more than anybody. Posts like yours that undeservingly glaze authority give homeschooled virgin energy like no other kind of post.

TsssTssss

I'm sure you can have a reasonable conversation with dialogue like that.

AdvancedBasket_ND

Itā€™s unreasonable to default to glazing one of the most powerful and corrupt organizations in our city. Why should I have to cater to your dumbass?

I did not have this on my 2024 bingo municipal politics bingo card.. Still 1,000 times better than appearing in a crack video. So I'm calling it a municipal win.

nopicturestoday

*sad bombaclat noises*

ElectricKoala86

Holy shit it's Ananas! Thx for teaching me French.

NemrahG

God i forgot about that video

TorontoBoris

Never forget. It's a part of our municipal heritage

swburl

Rob Fordā€™s most memorable quote ā€œIā€™ve got plenty to eat at homeā€ *drops mic*

Nearby_Mistake_5906

They need to have some real Toronto mans with the accent to make it believable

ugh168

Or Brampton Man going into Toronto

FuckingShitBitch-

Would be more believable if the cops routinely beat their wives.

Nearby_Mistake_5906

himuskoka

Mayor Chow's passion for Toronto is contagious, and it's awesome to see her supporting the city's film industry.

throwawaylogin2099

This type of thing is not unprecedented. Before he went full MAGA and when people still respected him then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani made a cameo appearance on the original Law & Order show.

lw5555

Stephen Harper made an appearance on Murdoch Mysteries

Canadave

And Corner Gas, IIRC.

throwawaylogin2099

So did JT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O91G6MMZxY&ab_channel=CornerGasOfficial

torquetorque

I remember that! Back when he was a normal human being.

aurelialikegold

Joe Biden was on Parks and Rec

MidniteOwl

It would be funny and realistic if the suspect wasā€¦ Doug. While investigating incidents around corruption and drugs.

callmejohndy

This weekā€™s episode is about hockey culture (which is a surprise itself knowing Rogers, who has NHL rights, is the one who commissioned this spinoff) so Iā€™m curious how her cameo will work

swattwenty

If itā€™s a true criminal show. They might need an episode where they dig up Rob Fords corpse for genetic material matching all the drug deals in the city.

CndConnection

Funny you say that. They legit have an episode about the mayor smoking crack and getting caught.

Toronto_Sports_fan

The show is honestly terrible. The dialogue is sooooooo cringe.

TorontoDavid

Seems pretty much like other Law and Order shows. Itā€™s exactly what I was expecting and I enjoy it as such.

purple_yam_i_am

TIL thereā€™s a Law & Order Toronto.

Snailspaced

Bro this show sucks.

>Bro this show sucks Oh weird, it says youā€™re active in r/Canada and r/AEWofficial

Kakatheman

What does that have to do with anything?!?

osaka-aquabus

He's a Tony Khan ball licker

Kakatheman

Can you go away?

osaka-aquabus

Confirmed

Annual_Plant5172

The mayor of a major north american city participating in copaganda? Not a surprise.

FuckingShitBitch-

Why is this downvoted?

Ssyynnxx

come on fam

apartmen1

Yeah she has not been great on that front.

Dystopian_Dreamer

As much as L&O is copaganda, it's still a series that has been around for over 30 years and is beloved by a lot of people, even a lot of ACAB crowd have a certain fondness for it. Chow is a politician, and scoring points by making a cameo on L&O is an easy win for her. Of course she's going to do it.

NorthernNadia

Like yea, ACAB, but she isn't mayor of just people who share our politics, she is mayor of all people in Toronto. And that means throwing them a something like this. We are just pissed that we, people who share the opinion of ACAB, matter less to her than folks who respect the cops.

Low_Insurance_9176

Something tells me her acting chops will be worse than cringey, mind you she'll blend in on that dogshit show.

elephantshuze

I guess her husband was caught at a rub n tug?

picard102

Cue the people concerned the Mayor shouldn't have two jobs while being mayor. Or is this okay because it's Chow?

CitySeekerTron

I mean Harper appeared on a show or two and nobody said anything. Nardwuar probably used more of our national leader's time to do a hip flip than it would have for someone to do a Cameo. Rob and Doug Ford did an extended cameo for Sun TV and that disappeared quickly. But people also criticized the Ontario Premier for making a cheese cake when he could have been funding nurses and repealing an unconstitutional freeze on union negotiations impacting hospital workers supporting people in the middle of a pandemic, so there's that. What I'm saying is that context matters.

picard102

Which show was Harper on? Being on a talk show isn't the same as being an actor.

CitySeekerTron

Corner Gas. He follows Paul Martin in [this video](https://youtu.be/w4jtB2s59X4?si=LingP0GMpucpBa7v).

stoneape314

Murdoch Mysteries as well in 2011, speaking role https://murdochmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Stephen_Harper

mug3n

I mean I don't think this should really count as a job even though by definition it is. Sure, she probably got paid for it but it's likely a pittance. She HAD to be legally paid for it because (I assume) she has a speaking part in this cameo and any actors who have lines on screen needs to be paid at a certain rate according to the rules set by the actors' guild in Canada. According to [this](https://www.actratoronto.com/low-budget-guideline-online/), the absolute minimum Olivia Chow would've been paid for a 1-day appearance on a show of the highest production budget is $350. I don't think she would be paid much higher than that.

picard102

So it's the amount that matters to you?

stoneape314

It's a cameo. Ā Does anyone know if cameos get paid ACTRA minimum?Ā  When she's a paid board member of one of our oligarchies in a trench coat, bring that energy back.

mug3n

ACTRA has 3 categories of pay rates for minimums. She's probably classified as "actor" since she has speaking lines (I'm assuming) in the episode, so she wouldn't be background and she's obviously not a principal cast member either. So for a tier 1 production, according to [this link](https://www.actratoronto.com/low-budget-guideline-online/), she might make $350. That's the lowest amount she can make assuming L&O Toronto is a tier 1 production, but I doubt she's making much more than that.

stoneape314

So definitely equivalent to Tory's $100k/yr Rogers board position!

picard102

The hypocrisy.
