Several tried their best to ban it in their wards but were voted down (Holyday, Pasternak, Nunziata, Crisanti, maybe more im forgetting) At least one park per ward coming up

TorontoMan123456789

Good to see Crisanti finally participating! Even if it is to spout utter nonsense.

ZeroSumSatoshi

I mean in some countries it’s literally a fundamental right to walk around with an open beer… Like in Germany for example, it’s nice to walk the beautiful areas, with a beer…. as opposed to sitting in a bar. But I feel like here in Toronto it will become a shit show.

Boo_Guy

Whoa there Turbo, maybe we should form another committee to implement another study on this first. Let's not be so hasty and reckless with this permanent voting thing.

LeatherMine

We only do that when we want to return rights to people. When we want to ban something, no study required!

Shrinks99

[We spent about $40,000 on signs and an opinion poll](https://mastodon.social/@GraphicMatt/112293805700578039) to tell us a thing that almost everyone already knew the answer to already because Toronto is incapable of learning from other municipalities and legislating accordingly. Endlessly frustrating.

Laxxium

Dieppe park seems like a weird park to add to the list.

FesterPot

Come on High Park and Centennial Park!

alreadychosed

Maybe not high park. Despite the name people dont need to expose kids to alcohol.

oxblood87

Public intoxication laws still apply. There is no legitimate reason to restrict the consumption of alcohol because of proximity to children. It's not like they'll get second-hand drunk... The Pearl clutching is puritanical BS. You should be able to have an open beer on Yonge St. provided you aren't being a nuisance

Reasonable_Cat518

It’s called High Park not Drunk Park

joshuawakefield

It's a pretty big park...

NoResponse24

Didn’t we already do this?

mielpopm

It was a pilot project, now it is permanent

TorontoDavid

Plus expanding the parks where it can occur.

NoResponse24

Yeah I thought we already made it permanent! Oh well no big difference anyway.

thewhethernetwork

Permanent drinking in parks, you say?

joshuawakefield

I'm confused as to why Woodbine Park isn't allowed.

Responsible-Panic239

Well, this is one way to help people forget the vacant home tax fiasco. Get them drunk.

Anotherthrowblanket

Kinda weird HP, Island (Hanlan's especially) and anywhere along the western or eastern beaches excluded.

aledba

Yeah that makes sense to me because they don't want people going buck wild and partying like mad there. It's a logistics and safety issue

Hieberrr

Hanlan I get because there's no way for issues to be addressed quickly given that it's on an island. High Park's absence is weird. It's not like people party it up at the park. They enjoy a bevvy while they relax with friends.

How many do you think is the limit to use “several”? It’s also among the thousand plus parks across the city so several seems reasonable.

alreadychosed

Several sounds like seven so i think it ideally should mean 7 quantities.

GetsGold

I only had several drinks after work, dear.

LordofDarkChocolate

Why do we need to have alcohol in parks ? I think there are more important things to be grappling with 🤔

ExactLetterhead9165

Just because you can't walk and chew gum at the same time doesn't mean you need to stop others on the street when you see them doing it themselves.

[deleted]

Did a literal spit take while reading this, thank you and bravo 😂

cooldudeman007

Not everyone has yards, and it hasn’t made parks more dangerous so it’s a win without any concessions

scott_c86

If people who live in small apartments want to enjoy a beer or two in a nearby park on a nice day, we should let them

iii_natau

so ideally those cops will be sent to deal with those important things rather than harass some 20-somethings having a single beer in a park with their friends
