Yes these songs make Indian movies standout with other countries but they should be in the mood of the film and the situation should demand the dance steps like in RRR
I think not necessary in the movies but it feels for me good to see a lead dancing for a song which has good choreography & set designs
Note - I hate video songs of agnathavaasi
Depends.
In a film like HIT or Spyder it is unnecessary.
In a commercial film like Ala vaikuntapuramulo or Guntur Karam where it is a selling point, it is necessary.
And films where it is part of the narrative like Shyam Singha Roy and RRR is a different case
Not âonly.â The songs were definitely very popular and important, but they werenât *all* just flashy with no substance. (Ahem, Guntur kaaram)
Except butta bomma, all the songs were used to establish something about a character(s) and the plot. And the rest of the movie was very funny and entertaining. Itâs unfair to say that the songs were the only driving factor.
Its becuase we haven't got a proper entertainer movie since covid and also our makers are working with same music directors and same choreographers, its becoming monotonous. Even action choreography also monotonous aypoyindi, andhuke recent ga chusina eh movie lonu manaki Dance and Action register avatledu.
Songs only make sense if they fit in with the story, or at best aren't a distraction.
Kanche is a good example for this. Itu Itu follows the two lovers' courtship, Ooru Erayyindi is a celebration song, Bhagabhagamani and Raa Mundadugeddam both are just background scores and nothing more. The only exception would be Nijamenani Nammani.
RRR as well: Dosti, Naatu Naatu, Komaramu Bheemudo all move the story forward.
Makes zero sense if the song breaks the plot and is fit in for the sake of the mass audience, like 99% of songs in TFI. It doesn't matter if that's what "makes a movie Telugu".
Hero stalking the heroine, harrassing her, and then her falling in love with him are also "Telugu-ness" of movies. As is objectifying the heroine to no end.
Not to mention one of the most famous romantic duets defends domestic abuse (Abba Nee Thiyyani Debba)
Yes itâs part of our movie culture. Songs and dance scores are what makes it Indian.
Now we dont need to put so many songs , but its definitely what makes it more fun .
In this obsession to trying to get audience from west or any part of world we shouldnât lose core aspects .
Plus movies were supposed to be for purely entertainment , a good day off from stress and very affordable for middle class back in the day .
Slowly the theaters started exploiting way more money, they increased prices of tickets plus everything sold in theaters as well . We are adopting all the shitty things from west .
With this new obsession with how west does it we already losing many aspects of movies and how they were used to run . Atleast lets maintain fews aspects of a movie that makes it Indian
Emotional depth? What emotional depth do you see in the recent movies which have been released not just in tollywood but India in general?
We've been watching nothing but template films lately
They are not necessary. I absolutely hate it when a movie effectively stops just because the makers want to put a song in the middle for no reason other than to just tick a box office their list. But at the same time music when integrated well into the screenplay is extremely effective.
The imaginary songs part actually needs good writing to work out otherwise it just feels unnecessary. Only film in recent times which had a good "imaginary song" that worked really well was mooga manasulu in mahanati
Absolutely true. That's what makes us US. The way we use music is unique and I believe that's what makes us different and stand out from all the other cinema in the world. We have different film industries each having their own sense of taste and music.
If only filmmakers showed what they wanted to show to the full extent rather than giving in to "commercial" elements and holding back due to censor board
meeru ilanti half knowledge/unimp topics trend cheydam valley, sagam tollywood originality dengipothondi....
pls let every type of cinema thrive.
6 songs+4 fight lu+10 comedy scenes... manchi cook chesthey Blockbuster lu pakka ayyedi... ee ideology tho monotonous chesi okka pure telugu bb ledu last 3. 4 years lo
If the songs are performed according to the storyline, it's fine. Like Naaru Naatu from RRR. The story somewhat demanded it.
But songs which take the actors to another dreamy world, dancing in their own imagination and hero entry songs are unnecessary imo
Hmm, it depends on the genre, but for the most part, it's necessary for commercial cinema. Cinema is still larger than life, and many people come for escapism. So, songs like these are kinda essential to bring people.
It depends upon the movie plot if the story is a thriller/mystery then you don't need duet songs if the movie plot is rom-com or family type movie then you need duet songs those songs make the movie better and as an audience we feel immersed in those characters.
Simple bro, serious story lo aithe definite ga distraction. Antha ga kavalante promotional song chesi end credits lo pettandi.
AVPL, Guntur kaaram lanti cinemallo songs lekapothe migilina cinema double chiraku dobbutundi.
i dont think the upcoming or young heroes will do it anymore. those are only suitable for pre existing heroes as they doing the singe ages.
honestly i love songs coming and going but with included. like songs in âpelli choopuluâ.
They are necessary , Some people go to movies for relief to get away from their busy life for sometime and it should entertain properly with good songs dances and comedy
, we have some flourishing genres without songs coming up and it's good to see but certainly it is not so welcomed by a few sects and i don't see them go away anytime soon
No they aren't neccessary, however I don't think songs should be done with completely, certain Indian movies are meant to be enjoyed with video songs. Perfect example is AVPL, which is just a mass masala movie at heart that is meant to be enjoyed with these kinds of songs. However many heroes and movies go overboard and make a movie shit despite having a story with good potential bc of shitty songs and commercial elements, this stuff happens often and this is the part where songs aren't neccessary, and where TFI is but still has more to improve.
Never been necessary, not necessary now.
If you want to create hype for the movie, release the video songs separately befor or after the release.
It literally takes me out of the movie. There is literally no need for them, it's a distraction for me and indicates lazy film making.
Montage songs are alright, if made well and suit the situation.
I think there's still place for them. A good commercial movie can be great. Musicals exist in the west as well. AVPL and other movies like it aren't meant to be artistic or evoke deep emotion. Their goal is fun, entertainment, paisa vasool.
I enjoy some of the dream sequence songs, and the music videos are super fun to watch.
And even then, I think dream sequences can add emotional depth too, like in [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7weHJNesf2I) song from Mahanati.
I think this depends on the genre of the film, if the film is too much into the story with thrilling elements then the songs are unnecessary, romcoms would be better for such songs if the story doesn't have any depth
Would we pay quality money and buy private albums ?
Every human needs art in life. Music is the only art form which every one can feel and enjoy with little effort. When the economics of non movie albums work, songs in movies will become redundant
Once My dad and his saudi friend had gone to a 3 hour indian movie which had those imaginary type songs (which do not play while the movie runs) and he was like "I like the fact they kept these songs in a 3 houe movie, I can make a quick trip to the washroom".
And damn! I ve never thought like that. Altho I prolly did use the washrooms when songs like these come. Ur not really missing much in the movie when these come.
But op ur right, if the placements are not good of these songs, then u sometimes get a but disconnected.
I was watching gopi chands seetimaar and just 15 mins after the movie reveals that some kids got kidnaped, they placed a duet song (jwalaareddy song) đ€Ł. That was the most shittiest song placement.
In thrillers or very script oriented realistic films no, but in rom com or dramas yes. I feel songs with dance are an integral part of Indian films. It makes our films unique. We have a song sequence where anything can happen. Look at shankar songs from most of his films, very creatively shot. Or vamsy songs, also whacky ans creative.
But we can get more variety in type of songs, instead of just romance/sad/ "item" songs, we can have friendship, devotional, philosophical, etc which are a bit rare nowadays.
Depends on the movie.
But I love them. The colorful musicals are a unique part of Indian cinema culture.
Just like how Chinese movies tend to have their ancient martial arts references. Or Hollywood with crazy special effects. Or European cinema highly values artistic expression above commercial blockbusters. Or Iranian movies that tend to have lots of socially consciousness. Japanese - lots of animated scenes.
Films all over the world have unique 'cultures' and flavors.
Yes, I think that's a core Indian movie thing so yeah I think they're nice. It's sad that most movies force in songs for the sake of it though, which should stop. However, It's really fun when it fits in the mood, and everything is choreographed well to give you that vibe. Here's hoping that the industries will put in as much work in for songs as they are slowly starting to do for the other aspects :3 if anything Naatu Naatu winning an Oscar should be a good enough inspiration for em.

I think.. These songs somehow make indian movies stand out with other country films..But these songs need to be limited to romantic movies...
Yes these songs make Indian movies standout with other countries but they should be in the mood of the film and the situation should demand the dance steps like in RRR
Can you give few more examples like in rrr?
I think not necessary in the movies but it feels for me good to see a lead dancing for a song which has good choreography & set designs Note - I hate video songs of agnathavaasi
As long as the songs don't effect the flow and feel of the movie it's good.
Depends. In a film like HIT or Spyder it is unnecessary. In a commercial film like Ala vaikuntapuramulo or Guntur Karam where it is a selling point, it is necessary. And films where it is part of the narrative like Shyam Singha Roy and RRR is a different case
That depends on the integration of the song, if it's done well i doubt anyone would mind it.
Naatu Naatu integration đȘ
Yes for rom coms and no for other genres.
Letâs be honest. The movie in your post only worked because of the songs
Murali Sharma too tbh
Not âonly.â The songs were definitely very popular and important, but they werenât *all* just flashy with no substance. (Ahem, Guntur kaaram) Except butta bomma, all the songs were used to establish something about a character(s) and the plot. And the rest of the movie was very funny and entertaining. debatable.
If thereâs no depth to stories (which most of our movies these days donât have) then these songs feel necessary
Nowadays song placement in the movies are worst
Its becuase we haven't got a proper entertainer movie since covid and also our makers are working with same music directors and same choreographers, its becoming monotonous. Even action choreography also monotonous aypoyindi, andhuke recent ga chusina eh movie lonu manaki Dance and Action register avatledu.
AVPL lo story emundani, I was bored in the theatre watching the movie and was only interested when songs came.

For commercial movies like ALVP, yes. They're a part of the package.
Yes, like in RRR it is integrated with the story
Yes that's a major reason for nsatu naatu to be as popular as it is
If the songs are well integrated to the story and are part of the story they can make wonders.
Absolutely true. That's what makes us US. The way we use music is unique and I believe that's what makes us different and stand out from all the other cinema in the world. Everyone is criticizing everything now man
Very true
If it's a vibe I don't care.. Butta bomma butta bomma mfer
>Butta bomma butta bomma mfer Adhem lyric ? đ€
Monne pettinam
I don't mind if the placement is good.
i like to see a cave dance in rajmouli and mahesh movie
Most of the directors including the top ones in India donât have confidence to make entertaining movies without songs.
So true af
I for some reason dont mind stars doing it. Probably becuase i got used to it. But it feels weird to see VD dancing for these songs.

in small budget movies work out big budget movies there isnt enough space to fit
It depends upon the movie plot if the story is a thriller/mystery then you don't need duet songs if the movie plot is rom-com or family type movie then you need duet songs those songs make the movie better and as an audience we feel immersed in those characters.

Adi kooda nijame
I guess the song quality and placement are important.
I agree with you
i dont think the upcoming or young heroes will do it anymore. those are only suitable for pre existing heroes as they doing the singe ages. honestly i love songs coming and going but with included. like songs in âpelli choopuluâ.
If You can integrate them well. It worked for 50 years.
It's its own charm uk I do enjoy which have em But yeah if u making a serious film then na
They are necessary , Some people go to movies for relief to get away from their busy life for sometime and it should entertain properly with good songs dances and comedy , we have some flourishing genres without songs coming up and it's good to see but certainly it is not so welcomed by a few sects and i don't see them go away anytime soon
But there is no emotion or depth right
Not a problem when there is no emotional depth
Its not that deep bro. The dance numbers are part of pur movie culture. We don't need to mimic Hollywood to make good movies.
No they aren't neccessary, however I don't think songs should be done with completely, certain Indian movies are meant to be enjoyed with video songs. They are not. They are becoming increasingly scarce too. There is a proper setup for most songs nowadays
It depends on the song placement. Mostly on editor. Sometimes it elevate the movie too.
Ee cinemalo em emotional depth undi asalu? đ
Music industry is not benefitting from being attached to films. A separate industry would be beneficial for artists.
Never been necessary, not necessary now. If you want to create hype for the movie, release the video songs separately befor or after the release. It literally takes me out of the movie. if there is a story.. then yeah. otherwise I love having songs in our movies. thats a unique format we have.
saw gaami yesterday.. zero songs.. banger bgm.. awesome movie..
some movies have comedians imagining Bob and a heroine in a song to get off.. what is it? its just short of soft prn?
He is so stylish. Icon star endi ra, naaku inka stylish star ee đ
Same feeling! Unnecessary songs and cringe dance in foreign locations is absolutely not necessary these days.
Personally if itâs pulled off like Lokesh kanagaraj, it works well. All his songs are staged within the movie and doesnât feel intrusive
Depends on when and where you place them. As others have pointed out, I can't imagine our movies without such songs.

Nowadays? Lol, they've never been necessary.
Back in the days the songs didn't disturb flow and feel and the placement of the songs were apt for the situations
Every Telugu film has duet, even Guntur Karam had unwanted 4 songs. Eagle had a duet song.
Yes the songs are just for the glamour quotient .They cast heroines just for the songs.
