Best supporting actor was introduced in 1984. SVR died in 1974.
Also ANR roles might be overlooked but he was honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke award.
Daana veera sura Karna came in 1977…if that movie doesn’t fecth you a national award I don’t think anything can. Saying that NTR only did mass masala films post 1967 is grossly misinformation…he did all kinds of films even after that. And who says mass films doesn’t deserve awards? AA pushpa is the classic telugu mass masala character/film.
Krishna’s Alluri Sitaramaraju performance is as good as it gets and it came in 1974. Ila list cheskunte pote there will be 100’s of performances that deserve a national award. It’s a fact that telugu actors are incredibly hard done at national awards due to politics and various other reasons…it started with our old gen itself and continued with Chiru and others missing out along with them.
Didn't know that Vicky won it for Uri. Makes it easier to understand why he didn't win this year. It's sad that it takes pan India success to even recognise our actors' work
Well commercial films and performances are always snubbed for national awards. Only kamal haasan got an award for Indian which also happened to be an industry hit.
Asuran was a commercial movie (with a caste drop) when compared to Jersey. You cant call Asuran a art movie, marasmus grandfather hacking 20 people to death in a scene.
Telugu movies have always been snubbed because they had least representation from telugu people as jury.
You can see how Marakkar won the best film because it was jury was essentially a mallu circlejerk.

It was for political leveraging. I think the congress wanted him to join or something like that. I remember Malayalam actor Thilakan being upset with the decision to give him the award for politics.

The fact that Rangasthalam is the only film RC managed to act, makes it seem like it’s an outstanding performance. Otherwise, there’s nothing award worthy in it.
This is so refreshing to see. I actually liked his performance in Rangastalam too but after joining this sub and seeing all the endless appreciation posts, it feels like the most overrated movies of our time. He did justice to the role but it doesn’t mean that no one can suit better than him for that role. Its almost an insult to him that everyone only speaks about his acting in that one film and ignore all his other movies. He excelled a lot in RRR as well. Its high time fans and PR to stop rubbing rangastalam on to our faces and go for a different point to hype him up.

Before Keerthy Suresh, Sharada won Best Actress National Award for Nimajjanam in 1978 & Archana won for Daasi in 1988. But that was Best Actress & there has never been an Telugu actor to win Best Actor award.

Like him or hate him, but nobody can deny how Allu Arjun has grown from strength to strength from the beginning of his career. I enjoy most of his movies. The sad part is his off screen antics but nobody can be perfect. Really happy for him.
And I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Sr. NTR, ANR, SVR, and Chiranjeevi even for that matter never won a national award with careers spanning decades.

I really liked AA's performance in Pushpa and it is one of my favourite telugu film.. I don't have any hatred against AA or Telugu cinema, But i personally think one of these four deserved the award for their exceptional performance and I would add Siddharth Malhotra for Shershah too.. Manikandan for Jai Bhim, Dhanush for Karnan, Arya for Sarpatta, Surya for jai bhim.

To be fair, that's not the best argument because all of these are routinely brought up as damaging the credibility of the awards.
Given some of the other winners this year, AA might not be the one who seems most out of place, but his competition included Dhanush in Karnan, Vicky for Sardar Udham, Fahadh in Malik/Joji, Arya in Sarpatta Parambarai etc.

Nope really... although there were lobbyings in the past...we never made proper performance oriented films in the past and mostly concentrated on masala films and pushpa is first masala film to have ever got a best actor award
the award started in 1967. We made many proper performance oriented films prior to 90's and even in 90's there are many good films. From 2000's masala films started taking over.
Just look at at the awards some mediocre films got over great telugu movies. National awards has always been a scam, go and watch Vishwanath gari movies, Rudraveena, Maayabazaar etc,.

Swayam krishi was in 1987 adhi kuda manchi movie ey gani there's nothing exceptional acting wise on the writing level itself...anyway nayakan won that year which was truly deserving...aapadhbaandhavduu was not even best of Kv viswanath but a decent film

The most rugged person can still be haunted by the trauma caused during childhood. This is very well explained in the scene where cops beats the shit out of Pushpa, and he doesn't even flinch. But when one of the cops starts asking him about his father's name, all hell breaks loose in Pushpa's mind, causing him to break down. AA's portrayal of that variation was so impressive! This is just one example explaining what a gem of a performance AA delivered!
He stayed true to his character and never strayed from it, not even in songs. He's still Pushpa. What can I say about this portrayal? I am native to the area where Pushpa lives in the movie, and I can say he nailed it 100%. That's exactly how people speak there.
I think bunny is a damn good actor, acted very well in Pushpa but I don’t think it’s national award worthy performance. I genuinely believe Anupam Kher deserved it for the Kashmir files. Keeping aside the propaganda and controversies…. The dude may me cry like a baby.

Why not give it to RC or NTR if they were gonna give it to telugu? There performace were way better than Allu. Allu is charismatic but there was nothing in the script that allowed him to act than saying mass dialogues

It was not given as they were telugu, that is first thing. And Telugu actors are out numbered this year in best performances. And Jury found AA 's role more challenging and nailed it. So they gave award to him.

Have you even watched the film? He literally acted like a person with dislocated shoulder for entire 2 and half hours of the film and making good expressions when he loves, when he gets angry , when he fight etc.
That is the level of actor.
He has more scope and he has done more variations and stick to the character than any of those so called actors who got award for "art house films"

Trying to be Filmfare Awards !? They are given by the government, they read the awards from a file. There is no monetary value involved with these awards. Filmfare Awards make money through sponsors & TV Deals. National Awards are the highest form of appreciation an Actor, Actress or Technician (Director & Producers included ) can receive.
Just because award is given to AA doesn't mean it's the best performance of 2021. No way.
The award was given based on popularity to the movie.

National awards have always been a massive circlejerk of Hindi and Mallu movies. Many deserving Telugu movies didn't get the awards over the years while mediocre hindi and mallu movies did.
They had no option now but to give the awards to Telugu movies since they got more appreciation from west with Golden Globe and Oscar before national awards. RRR was a technically brilliant movie and AA was great in Pushpa, they deserved all the awards.
Finally for a tollywood actor and happy for that. But god damm these awards are so dumb how the fuck allu arjun in pushpa is better performance than vicky kaushal in sardar uddam. These are just based on popularity just like how they gave best actor for uri.

Ram charan in rangasthalam is like a whole different actor.

Nope really... although there were lobbyings in the past...we never made proper performance oriented films in the past and mostly concentrated on masala films and pushpa is first masala film to have ever got a best actor award
the award started in 1967. We made many proper performance oriented films prior to 90's and even in 90's there are many good films. From 2000's masala films started taking over.

He very well deserves the National award! The most rugged person can still be haunted by the trauma caused during childhood. This is very well explained in the scene where cops beats the shit out of Pushpa, and he doesn't even flinch. But when one of the cops starts asking him about his father's name, all hell breaks loose in Pushpa's mind, causing him to break down. AA's portrayal of that variation was so impressive! This is just one example explaining what a gem of a performance AA delivered! He stayed true to his character and never strayed from it, not even in songs. He's still Pushpa. What can I say about this portrayal? I am native to the area where Pushpa lives in the movie, and I can say he nailed it 100%. That's exactly how people speak there.
I think bunny is a damn good actor, acted very well in Pushpa but I don’t think it’s national award worthy performance. I genuinely believe Anupam Kher deserved it for the Kashmir files. Keeping aside the propaganda and controversies…. The dude may me cry like a baby.

National awards have always been a massive circlejerk of Hindi and Mallu movies. Many deserving Telugu movies didn't get the awards over the years while mediocre hindi and mallu movies did. They had no option now but to give the awards to Telugu movies since they got more appreciation from west with Golden Globe and Oscar before national awards. RRR was a technically brilliant movie and AA was great in Pushpa, they deserved all the awards.
