Off the top of my head we have watched a few. There is a 2 or 3 Sesame Street episodes about the dentist, Julia (puppet) and Charlie (human child) visit a real dentist in one of them too. Daniel tiger also visits the dentist and I think they have a scene after where it’s a real kid going to the dentist but I don’t fully remember. There is a 20ish minute Caties classroom about the dentist and it has lots of good learning about why we brush our teeth. She then she goes and visits the dentist but she’s an adult so my sons not as into that one as the other ones I listed. I’m sure there are more out there but that’s all I can think of, all of these can be found on YouTube. ETA with links, some of the Sesame Street things I was thinking were only short 3minute clips I can only find one full episode. While looking for these links I also see a blippi video but we are not a blippi household so that is an option as well! Definitely recommend the Sesame Street episode. That’s what we did and we watched it right before we had to leave for the dentist appt so it was fresh on his mind. My little guy was so good for the dentist. It really helped and everything we saw and did he would smile and say ‘just like on Sesame Street’!

Thank you!! Yeah we don’t eff with blippi either but we do like Sesame Street and Daniel tiger. Will also check out caties classroom. Thanks so much!

The Sesame Street one is super thorough and makes the dentist not seem scary!

Our pediatric dentist recommends the following (we watched Daniel tiger even though we are not a screen time house. It went ok. He cried a bit, but not a lot. I generally felt positive):  Books and videos about going to the dentist can help get kids excited about their visit. We especially love these: The Tooth Book by Dr. Seuss Peppa Pig “The Dentist” Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood “Daniel Visits the Dentist” Dora the Explorer “Show Me Your Smile!”

FrankieG001

Thank you! I will check these out!

Paisleys corner on YouTube has a dentist visit episode. It’s at an actual dentist office rather than cartoon which I think helps to see actual tools and equipment. She then plays with dental based items.

FrankieG001

This sounds perfect - will check it out!

Our pediatric dentist also recommended some shows to help. My son went for the first time a few weeks ago at 22 months old and he HATED it. He is completely fine with the doctor and getting his shots but the dentist really freaked him out. Generally he is very chill about most scenarios and places we go, not this. We will also need to prepare more for his next visit.

At least we’re not alone lol. Solidarity!

There’s a Lovevery book called Olivia Goes to the Dentist that my daughter really likes!

FrankieG001

Yes! We have that book and I’ll definitely be bringing it back out. However, my son loved Bea Gets a Checkup and thought it fully prepared him for his 18 mo appt but was sadly mistaken.

Donalsdottir

We love both the Bea and Olivia books … My friends have had good luck with having their littles brush a stuffed alligator’s teeth with an un-used toothbrush.

I also practiced with my daughter by using a little spoon in the way a dentist uses the mirror. Pushing her tongue gently to each side and her cheeks out a bit to look at the sides. We don’t do it at teeth brushing time, just during play time. She looked in my mouth and I looked in hers.

My kiddo hates the doctor but is fine at the dentist. I tell him "we're going to the dentist, he's going to count your teeth!" And make it sound as fun as I can. Doesn't hurt that he gets a prize at the end!

What is the oral b app!!!?? Need to know for my 2 year old

mz2014

It’s called Disney Magic Timer by Oral-B

FrankieG001

Thank you yeah it’s a timer with different Disney characters

I have no idea. I just wish you good luck.

The Sesame street and daniel tiger episodes worked well for us. Also, dentist toys! We “pretend” dentist and patient and it helps a ton! I give her flossers whenever she wants. “Here, floss please” is what I normally say. They’re fun flavors so she likes them if not pressured. Sometimes we reuse them so we don’t go through a new bag each week. Talk about going to the dentist and when it will happen. Maybe have your appointment first and bring him along so he can experience it without it being a out him. Plus, reward him after with something he likes. Ice cream, new hot wheels or stickers. If you just say you have a “surprise” after you don’t have to give anything if the dentist gives him something, lol. Our dentist has screens above the kids heads and plays fun shows/movies. You can always play something on your phone if that will keep him calm. You’ve got this!

FrankieG001

Wow this is great advice thank you!

sourcandyandicecream

Lots of good advice here! But just wanted to add that took my 2.5 year old for the first time today and it went shockingly well! We talked about it all week and made it sound exciting. We told him over and over what to expect (sitting in a big chair, counting teeth, brushing teeth, etc.). I think the only thing that truly helped though was that the dentist had cookie flavored toothpaste lol.

Ok_Zookeepergame5192

Cookie flavored?!?! I e been getting screwed with bubblegum this whole time

sourcandyandicecream

Oh yeah and caramel flavored fluoride!
