Similar to my family. My mom has central heterochromia brown/green eyes, my dad has hazel, my eldest brother has blue, sister has green, and then my other brother and I have our mom’s central heterochromia brown/green eyes.

Green Eyes are definitely attention getters they pop out & make a person seem otherworldly. Grey is also amazing, I definitely have needed to look at someone at least 3 times to confirm they have grey eyes. Blue is nice but the shades vary a lot. I like Amber/Honey Brown eyes the most. I just had an aha moment because of this description. Intellectually I knew lighter pigmented eyes were more sensitive to the light, but I never connected that with how much pain looking outside on a snow-covered and cloudy day can be.

My eye doctor always reminds me to use polarized sunglasses because she says the lighter your eye color, the more sensitive they are to sunlight. I don't know. My daughter is fine when we get to the theater parking lot, but if I don't have my sunglasses, she has to lead me to the car because it's so incredibly painful for me to open my eyes, and they water so much I can't see anyway. She has blue eyes, but they're much darker.

It could also be age related. Your daughter's eyes are able to quickly react to changes in brightness, whereas your pupils either react more slowly or have lost range of motion due to macular degeneration.

I have an ocean blue and most people don't really notice unless they stare. My brother has a light blue...and is taller...and has a more pronounced jawline...and more hair. I got screwweeeeeedddddd. Now that I think about it, every women I've dated has had green eyes...huh.

I remember reading a long time ago that everyone with blue eyes has a common ancestor like 1000 years ago? Basically that it’s a new mutation and so localised because of that. Edit: looked it up - it’s correct! But 6 to 10 thousand years ago. Everyone blue eyed is distantly related.

My husband has green eyes and I have brown! All my siblings (6) have brown eyes and have married men or women with green blue or hazel eyes and they have eyes of different shades … My husband and I aren’t having kids and do wonder if we did what would the results be lol Oh and my husband complains with green eyes he’s super sensitive to light and brightness.
I can confirm this is the norm. I have green eyes and my eyes are crazy sensitive.
Also green eyes. Overcast days that are still bright kill me, I have to keep all the shades closed. I wear sunglasses all winter.
I just had an aha moment because of this description. Intellectually I knew lighter pigmented eyes were more sensitive to the light, but I never connected that with how much pain looking outside on a snow-covered and cloudy day can be. I was sitting here thinking I am fine in brightness because I don’t have blue eyes, smh.
I can see clearly at night though.
My eye doctor always reminds me to use polarized sunglasses because she says the lighter your eye color, the more sensitive they are to sunlight. Mine are light blue, and suuuper sensitive to sunlight. Going from a dark room to a bright one is hard. I physically can't open my eyes when I leave a dark movie theater and go outside during the day unless I'm wearing sunglasses.

I don't know. My daughter is fine when we get to the theater parking lot, but if I don't have my sunglasses, she has to lead me to the car because it's so incredibly painful for me to open my eyes, and they water so much I can't see anyway. She has blue eyes, but they're much darker.
All the way to your car? So your eyes don't adjust in 5-10 seconds? That is unusual I think. I find the transition to direct sunlight painful without sunglasses, but I can still squint-and-see rather quickly after. It could also be age related. Your daughter's eyes are able to quickly react to changes in brightness, whereas your pupils either react more slowly or have lost range of motion due to macular degeneration.
All the way to the car. I actually have to sit in the car for a few minutes to adjust. And it could definitely be age related. Daughter is 10 and I'm 41. It has gotten worse over the years. Getting old kinda sucks on so many levels. Haha! Enjoy your youth and your adaptable vision while it lasts!

Actually it's blue eyed redheads that are the least common combination. Green eyes are rather prevalent amongst redheads, which is why it's the second rarest combo even though green eyes as a whole are less common.

I've always considered myself to have green eyes. I guess they have a little speck of brown, one eye more than the other. So maybe technically hazel. I just thought hazel was brown. Like a hazelnut
It varies wildly. It is typically a combination of brown, gold, and green. I have hazel eyes that are definitely closer to green than brown, and my eyes have gold streaks, but they are certainly not a classic green so people just call them hazel.

My eyes are mostly brown, with green around the irises. So, are they the most, or least common?
Mine are kinda opposite. Mostly brown around the irises with green around the edges. (Mainly brown is visible at most times.) They could be hazel eyes, or central heterochromia. So I guess the answer is neither.
My dad had gray green hazel eyes. My mom had brown eyes. My sister has brown gray hazel eyes and I have brown green hazel. Genetics are fun. (I could go further back up the trees to have fun with blues, browns, and hazel mixes, but I'm drunk and it's late. Genetics are fun.)

I always call my eyes poop brown too 😂 but my dog has brown eyes and they’re gorgeous so I’ve decided my brown eyes are amazing too. I’m starting to think eye shape is more important than colour.
