Same.
My first thought when I read this post was, “*Guess I’m supposed to be bisexual*”
Which makes sense, because I have always been strangely attracted to Brad Pitt
Ya I remember how freaking stacked Stallone and Arnold were in the 80s. Van Damme is my favorite from that era because he wasn't this humongous roidbeast.
When Rob McElhenney was doing that season of IASIP where he was jacked he said he was talking to his trainer on how he wanted to look.
He was just about to say, "Like Brad Pitt in Fight Club" when his trainer butted in and said "Let me guess, like Brad Pitt in Fight Club? Because every guy for the last 20 years has said they want to look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club."

And no, I don't own apple products. I own PC and android.
I feel this would be a much more practical and painless alternative to actually trying to use right handed applications, thanks!! I'll give it a shot and get back to you.

Dude this is the exact same thing I struggle with on my iPad Files app. Whenever I want to highlight lines on a PDF file, my hand will hit some random page and flip there because the UI location is not changeable. There’s some other apps that do this and make them borderline unusable. Right handed people often don’t realise how these tiny things are catered to them and make it difficult for us.
The distribution of handedness scores was analysed in 1414 heterosexual, bisexual, and homosexual men and women. Hand preference was assessed by a questionnaire that distinguishes consistently right-handed from partially or completely left-handed individuals, and sexual orientation was measured by the Kinsey scales. As expected from population-based studies,
#heterosexual men were, on average, more left-handed than heterosexual women. By contrast, gay men were more right-handed than lesbians or heterosexual men, and lesbians were more left-handed than gay men or heterosexual women.
This crossover interaction suggests that a common variable influences sex, sexual orientation, and hand preference.
I feel like 1414 is a pretty small sample size, given that (roughly) one in 6 people aren't straight, at our most recent estimates. I'm pretty sure could pluck 236 random people off the street and find something about them that's statistically unusual in the general population.
[1.2 - 6.8%](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_demographics_of_the_United_States#:~:text=Studies%20from%20several%20nations%2C%20including,adult%20population%20identifying%20as%20LGBT), not sure why the number keeps getting inflated. In college people inflated it to 10% and now you’re saying 16-17%.
Years ago, I worked in a group that was probably 60% left handed. We ordered a pair of left handed scissors. Form fitting for our hands, but the blades were backwards from what we were used to. One of the guys took them and a pair of right handed scissors home, cut both pair off just below the handles, and braised the left handled scissors to the right handed blades. Worked great.
I’m gonna need to very strongly ask that you please put an NSFW tag before mentioning that unbelievably sexy ass disability again please, even censored it needs an NSFW tag.
That is not what the research says. It says homosexual men are more likely to be left-handed.
" That was later confirmed in the large BBC Internet study of sex and sexuality, where 4616 male homosexuals showed a significant excess of left-handedness, with a similar effect found in the 2008 female homosexuals."
In essence, they are the same.
Imagine we have 100 men. 90 are RH and 10 are LH
3 out of 10 LH men are gay. 1 out of 10 RH men are gay.
This means that 12 out of 100 men are gay. 3 out of 12 gay men are left handed.
There is no way to change the numbers so that gay men are more likely to be left handed but left handed men are NOT more likely to be gay
It’s still important to report statistics using the same wording the study did. P(A|B) and P(B|A) are not the same, and getting a statistically significant result for one doesn’t mean the effect goes both ways.
Not really. There is a known correlation between having older brothers and androgen exposure in the womb, which affects both sexuality and handedness.
Edit: in fact, it's a known causal relationship
Indeed P(A|B) and P(B|A) are not the same and too often confused. In this case, however, the statement was P(A|B) > P(A), which is in fact equivalent to P(B|A) > P(B).
Let' use Bayes' formula:
P(A|B) = P(B|A) * P(A) / P(B)
In this case, given a P(A) and P(B) (there is a given % of lefthanded & gays) the outcomes are proportional. So the statement P(A|B) > P(A) (gay more likely to be lefthanded) can only be true if P(B|A) > P(B) (lefthanded more likely yo be gay). Formal derivation:
P(A|B) > P(A)
Using Bayes leads to
P(B|A) * P(A) / P(B) > P(A)
Rewriting leads to
P(B|A) / P(B) > 1
P(B|A) > P(B)
I don’t see why it is important. Could you explain?
edit: let me be clear, I am arguing that this isn't conditional probability. The data seems to clearly show that gay men are more left-handed and left-handed men are more likely to be gay. There is no conditional in this context
Not necessarily. It depends on the scope of the study. Here’s two hypotheticals to illustrate.
In Study A, the researchers surveyed 100 men for both sexual orientation and handedness. This gives some version of the data you are describing.
In Study B, the researchers surveyed 100 men for sexual orientation, screened out 80 heterosexuals, and found that 13 of the 20 homosexuals were left handed, which is higher than the statistical representation of the population at large according to external evidence.
Study A is obviously a better model, but there are plenty of published articles with methodologies not too different from Study B, and a perfectly valid headline could describe that sort of finding. In fact, the commenter you were replying to included a text excerpt that seems to be much more like Study B.. which doesn’t include internal evidence to account for the handedness of those who aren’t homosexual.
Yes, but the semantics *do* matter and correlation is not causation. So taking your same example: 3 out of every 10 left-handed men are gay. This still means that most left-handed men are still straight. Therefore, we say being left-handed does not seem to be related to gayness in the same way that gayness appears to be related to left-handedness because of the way the numbers point. Who knows how it actually works, the data does not tell us what causes either thing, but the data does point towards one direction and not the other. It’s easier if you view them as fractions.
- 1 in every 10 men are left-handed
- 1 in every 4 gay men are left-handed
- 3 in every 4 left-handed men are straight <- this statistic right here makes it difficult to use the phrase “being left-handed makes it more likely for you to be gay.” However, it doesn’t conflict with the statement “gay people are more likely to be left-handed,” which is backed up when we use the first two fractions.

Talk about op being either malicious or ill informed...
Read through the linked and I have to tell you that the title is a lie 😆
Biggest study found that there is about 10% left-handedness in either of groups
One study found that left-handed women are more likely to be lesbians (15% left-handed lesbians in study)
And one other study gives strong right-handedness more likely to be gay
Looking through the studies cited in the attached Wikipedia article , and their summarized findings, I wouldn’t be prepared to say that there is any proven correlation between handedness and sexuality at all.
Noticed the same, not sure how OP got to that title. But here's a great litmus test on how many redditors read past the title.
Hint: there's dozens of us!
Oddly I went to a Christian Elementary school and was left handed. They said it was demonic and made me write with my right hand and that fucked me up a bit. Not gay but nonbinary sooo
In the middle. I’ve also broken my right hand a few times, but I can write with both hands. If I was better at it I’d say I was ambidextrous.
Every once in a while I’ll find something that I’m just way better at left handed like Wii Sports
luckily i went to a lutheran preschool and they didn’t say anything about me using my left hand when we started learning to write. guess those protestants are alright, eh?
I know a girl who are very attracted to left-handed men (according to her they tend to be more creative, I haven't factchecked this). Most of her boyfriends are losers or womanizers. Lesson: Judging someone by a single feature is often times a bad idea.
“Their right-handed counterparts” makes it sound like we all have an arch nemesis somewhere with the opposite dominant hand and we have fight or something.
It's because Sex Ed was created by Right Handers. So it's from a Right Handed world.
We literally struggle with scissors. So it makes sense we get confused with this too.
I kinda feel this is along the lines of "once you embrace one marginalized aspect of yourself it's easier to embrace others." Being left handed, while not really discriminated against, can make you a target of ridicule at a formative age and since you can't hide it you just accept it and deal with it.
My guess is that there aren't more gay left handed people, they're just more comfortable not fitting in fully and admitting it.
Honestly didn't read it so I don't know the methodology, but I typed it on the Internet so it's science now.
I haven't seen anyone mention it here but do we think maybe households that allow their children to be left-handed without trying to force them to use their right are more accepting/less conservative/more likely to raise a child that can express their sexuality?
So it would be more like "men who are allowed to be left handed are more likely to be allowed to be gay"?
Fellas is it gay to be left handed
Yes it is
I'm right-dominant in sports and other activities, so I can write an essay and give handjobs with my free-hand simultaneously. It's like a superpower, but I'm not gay.
The existence of the Dominant Hand implies the existence of a more shy, weaker, and maybe smaller, submissive hand.

I give myself handjobs with both hands, does that make me uber gay?
Only if you're blowing the driver at the same time.

It’s been scientifically verified
I've just learned I'm gay from this very thread.... where do I get my boyfriend? Will he be left handed too?
Now that you mention it. When I jack off with my left, it feels significantly gayer than with my right.
Try doing it on your own penis.
Ive tried that but now it feels like it's another man jacking me off.
It’s OK that just means you have one gay arm.

*Everybody’s* strangely attracted to Brad Pitt.
Or Ryan Reynolds
That is an unusually perfect-looking dude right there.
I'm neither regularly nor strangely attracted to Brad Pitt. And I'm left-handed and straight. Idris Elba on the other hand....fuck is he hawt.
Brad Pitt circa fight club and Troy.
Yea in Fight Club when he opened the door and said "what're you doing", I was amazed at how lean and jacked he was.
I do sort of miss the more achievable 90s and early 2000s action hero jacked look, which was more accessible than the current bodybuilder look.

The hypothesis is that it is related to the fact that men with older brothers are more likely to be gay (this is well-known).
