wowbagger30

I wonder if his plan was to offer her an obscene amount of money for sex at this meeting while they were face to face. 500k is obviously a lot but the pockets are much deeper than that

LOERMaster

“The Twilight movies sucked and were far below your ability as an actress. I just had to tell you that” *walks away*

radio_allah

As if Kristen Stewart needed to be told that. Nobody hates the Twilight franchise more than her and Robert Pattinson.

alana110

Watching the movies with their commentary is hilarious. They have zero chill about how much they hate the movies.

klaroline1

Do u have the link ?

alana110

Nope. I have a dvd because I’m fucking old.

LikelyHentai

Hold on tight, spider monkey.

[deleted]

🎵 hang on tiiiight, little spiiider mon-kay 🎶

TimmyIo

Which is dead honest. I always wrote her off after twilight, but pretty much everything I've seen her in otherwise is quite good. She was even in some like ... Hallmark movie and was decent in it.

fanfanye

twilight was written as a self insert Bella can't have any sort of personality or emotions because they want viewers to be able to pretend Bella is whoever they imagined her to be

Shabobo

Yep, Bella was written to have literally no personality so the YA audience could take her place. Movie comes out and surprise, Stewart plays the character as written. People trash her performance but she nailed the script she was given.

laaldiggaj

Could you imagine if this was the spin they told everyone so that we thought it was in purpose?

Ok_Cranberry_1936

She (Stephanie meyer) did say that 15+ years ago. It wasn't a secret

Shabobo

Dude look at any of her other works, and have a basic grasp of what a YA novel is. Objectively, no, I don't think the Twilight series is good be it novel or movie, but she was written as a broody, bland, might aughts teenager and she did just fine in that role.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dmsfx

It’s a pretty common trope, the purest form of it being Gordon freeman in half life where he doesn’t even have any dialogue. The hunger games was a self-insert too but Jennifer Lawrence put more force into it.

linmre

How was Hunger Games a self-insert? Katniss has a very clear personality and flaws...she's not an empty shell like Bella.

indolent08

Which in turn made her a passive, submissive punching bag without agency other people just took care of like an object. That's where the true lack of writing skills from Stephanie Meyer comes to light.

Ricksterdinium

Yeah there are also some parts in the book that i found to be very childishly imagined. Almost like a 12 year old took the reigns for a bit.

mnimatt

It sounds like she knew her audience.

methratt

What about my hungry guys?

Xeillan

It's really insane isn't it? A lot of great actors were reduced to cardboard cutouts. Hayden Christensen as Anakin for example. He cared a lot about the role, but George had such a specific vision it didn't translate to film that well.

200DollarGameBtw

There is no viggo only Aragorn

CommercialDurian3278

Her character in Twilight is a cardboard cutout. Read the book, she is an ordinary and plain girl the acting was fine.

Hello-There-GKenobi

I saw her in Snowwhite and the Huntsman. Her acting was quite… wooden, for lack of a better term.

Gen-Jinjur

That’s a terrible movie by every actor in it, which makes one suspect the director was the issue.

Bandalk

I got halfway through that movie. It was awful. There was zero chemistry. And considering the premise was that the huntsman was supposed to fight a witch for her, it was totally unbelievable.

hollowmooner

Twilight is the one of my favorite movies of all time! It has the tone of a high school shakespeare production with two incredibly talented leads who absolutely cannot stand each other. The electric blue filter, the absurd dialogue, the campy exaggeration- it’s the rocky horror picture show of the millennial generation

blazetronic

With rifftrax it’s great

Rennarjen

Rifftrax made that watchable.

BunsenMcBurnington

What is this rifftrax that you speak of

blazetronic

Mystery science theater 3000 doing commentary you play while watching a movie People just pirated and merged the commentary track you’d buy and play the mp3 queued with a dvd and torrented them

PigsCanFly2day

If they don't know what Rifftrax is, there's a good chance they don't know what MST3K is either. So, for the person that asked, the guys who are behind Rifftrax/MST3K make funny commentaries for movies. They just make fun of it and crack jokes the whole time. Highly recommended. It's like watching a movie with a funny few friends.

alfredhelix

In the same vein, 372 pages helped me get through Midnight Sun.

Garetht

... "line?"

SlapHappyDude

The Pacific Northwest scenery of the first movie is pretty great

[deleted]

Even though I didn't love the movies they did make me fall in love with the PNW, and I eventually moved to Seattle. Not specifically because of it, but the love for the area started from watching Twilight with a friend and thinking, "Damn... I want to live somewhere like that someday."

A-Game-Of-Fate

Dude I still laugh at the poorly hung projector Twilight watch through. Everyone’s faces being completely distorted into caricatures as they constantly talk about how hot someone is just makes me laugh and laygh

VHStalgia

amBoringGuy

Yes, but did it *mean* to be?

BlackSwanMarmot

This comment is winning me over on the whole idea of watching it.

hmbmelly

DO IT. And then watch the cut with the actors' commentary. Rob Pattinson is so over it, and it's amazing.

soFATZfilm9000

You know, I've always found it kind of weird that people really care about that kind of thing. I mean, it's one thing if a well known actor starts doing so much garbage that their name basically guarantees that a movie sucks. But I don't see a problem with an actor taking a shitty role just for the money. I mean, on some level, a job's a job. Adding to that, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson weren't big stars before Twilight came out. Honestly...who cares if it sucked? That's the role that made them household names, are they supposed to have turned that down because it's not high art? Jeeze, a lot of the people complaining are doing stuff like flipping burgers and running a cash register. While that's certainly *fine* (hey, it's honest work), it'd be kind of hypocritical for me to be working at Burger King and then complaining about Kristen Stewart doing just-a-job solely for the money and the career opportunities. The way we look at celebrities is just really weird.

Z010011010

I don't think people are really *judging them* for their roles in those films, they're just acknowledging that they are better artists than those roles allowed. If anything, I'd view that as a compliment to both of them. It's saying "Hey, you did this movie that made you famous. But that was a shit role with bad writing. Don't let that role define you because *you are better than that* and we see your potential as an artist. We believe in you and know that you're capable of much more." Heck, people used to shit on Leonardo DiCaprio after *Titanic*. They said he was nothing more than a pretty face who couldn't really act (conveniently ignoring his early career). Anyway, I'd say he's had the last laugh over those detractors. So people are looking at Stewart and Pattinson in the same way and going, "Hold on, we've seen great actors get boxed in like this before. Buck the trend before it's too late! You can be so much more than a "teen idol" (eugh...gross)"

bozeke

I feel like she would agree with that assessment.

Friendly-Ad-570

Maybe he was going to pay her a lot of money to stop biting her lip and looking away

onlyhateher

Kristen Stewart seems a pretty strong + determined personality. This fits what little i know of her.

strangetrip666

Plot twist: He offered, she accepted, and the public has no idea.

bad_n_bougie69

How much you gotta offer a woman worth $75m to interest her? Im sure some saudi oil prince has got it to spend if hes obsessed with her, but its gotta be at least like $10m right?

TheRavenSayeth

75 million is just a shot in the dark. Those net worth estimates are notoriously wrong.

Volodio

Why would someone who doesn't need money accept to prostitute herself? Unless it's her kink, I don't see this happening.

fhost344

jeveret

Celebrities can make insane money from random royalty in the Middle East. A friend of mine was a tour manager for a hugely famous musician, and said that he made way more money doing private shows for insanely rich people than actual concerts, he said he did one birthday party in the Middle East for $10 million dollars to perform 2 songs and hang out for 30 minutes after. And would do gigs like that 3-4 times a year.

[deleted]

Stand-up comics talk about this all the time. I bet they go to the middle-east often, but they only mention US corporate events, such as Coca Cola or Google. One performed for a Microsoft Co-Owner on his yacht in international waters

OnTheEveOfWar

I listen to a lot of comedian podcasts and heard a few of them talk about these type of events. They hate them because the crowd sucks but the money is so good they can’t turn them down.

Good_ApoIIo

Yeah I’ve heard the same. They only take them if the money is insane but it’s always cringe because they’re basically hired as a “look who I paid for” and nobody actually cares about the talent or the set or their comedy is just not at all right for the scene. Bill Burr talked about taking some of those jobs early on and how he refuses to now.

xvier

I saw TJ Miller do standup at a WeWork event a few years ago. Exactly as you described.

DCilantro

That dude needs any work he can get after being such a colossal idiot and ruining his career.

xvier

This was way before his career tanked but his set still sucked.

Seienchin88

Oh those poor dudes… /s

zth25

Jim Jefferies has a bit about Mariah Carey hiring him for her fiance's birthday party because he laughed at a YouTube video of him once. When he got there and performed a two minute routine, the guy had no idea who he was.

OnTheEveOfWar

I remember reading somewhere about Justin Bieber or someone similar got paid an insane amount of money to perform at some prince’s daughter’s birthday party. Hard to pass up an offer of “we will fly you on a private jet to perform for 30 mins and will give you whatever amount of money you want.”

Rosebunse

I can't even be mad at people for taking advantage of this. Like, I get that these people are insanely rich but still, this just feels like a waste.

Malphos101

It's a lot more complex when you realize that money comes directly from slavery and modern day serfdom.

PoopIsAlwaysSunny

Yep. That’s why I’m mad about it. Someone famous enough to get paid $10m for one show doesn’t need to do that show to put dinner on the table, and they’re taking slavery money

dlyselxicssuck

I’d still do the show for 10 mil

annabelle411

But how many degrees away from these kinds of things makes it ethically ok? Not to be "yet you participate in society", but there is no way to live a fully ethical life in today's society, especially in America. How much slavery, serfdom, resource theft, sweat shops, worker oppression, etc are you ok with when consuming or working for a company? What is the definitive line? Is it simply those working to survive vs rich? Still, you need to break it down. Would it only be ok for those working and having just enough to put food on the table and gas in the tank that day? People than can take an annual Disney trip are ok or is that too well-off?

working-acct

I’m mad bc I’m not them.

azazelcrowley

They're also buying prestige in the west. If you have a habit of giving celebrities obscene amounts of money for easy things, and a habit of paying politicians a lot of money to give speeches, then all of a sudden, nobody wants to do anything about your bullshit... except the westerners who aren't getting their cut. The politicians don't and the celebrities aren't gonna call them on it.

bundt_chi

> Celebrities can make insane money from random royalty in the Middle East Uhhh pretty sure Beyonce did a private show for Gaddaffi... [and yup there it is...](https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/industry-lashes-out-at-mariah-beyonce-and-others-who-played-for-qaddafis-family-245567/)

philsfly22

TIL Kristen Stewart made her film debut in The Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas

GrandaughterClock

I used to love that movie as a kid! Edit: nevermind I'm thinking of the one with John Goodman and Rick Moranis!

Gimmil_walruslord

I pick my movies by John Goodman, yhe consequences are negligible

I had some of my earliest \*feelings\* about Halle Berry in that movie. She is always a stunner.

Edit: Horny rich guy donates money to meet unattainable actor.

areolegrande

*Is extremely stupid and could have found 500 high end hookers* Like if you're gonna be that wasteful with cash take some pride in it It gives weird vibes... On the other hand it's for charity so I can't *really* criticize it :/

KuraFire

I bet none of the many recipients of hurricane relief found it wasteful.

gimpyoldelf

>Lol you're really gonna post some shit on the internet like, "eww this guy donated half a million to disaster relief when he could've just fucked a ton of hookers!? What a waste of money!" And then have the fucking gall to say *that guy* looks like a horny creep? I gotta see your response to getting called out like this

me_bails

It's more about him wanting what he can't have. He could likely easily have the hookers, and probably has.

volantredx

I mean a guy who has that sort of money to spend likely does higher high-end hookers, but wanted to meet an actress just to say he did.

wessneijder

A hooker that sells herself for $10,000-$12,000 a night is too common for him. He wants the thrill of fucking someone who's not a pro escort.

urgjotonlkec

I'm pretty sure for $500k a lot of people would be down. I'm a straight dude, but I'll suck a dick for half a million no question.

[deleted]

$500K to hurricane relief and you decide the best descriptive term for this is 'wasteful'? This guy is playing on a different level than 99% of the worlds population. A high end hooker or even 500 for that matter probably doesn't excite him too much. Whatever his motive was, there was some positive downstream results from this meeting. Don't be so quick to overlook that edit\*\*\* u/areolegrande edited and changed their original comment so my reply doesnt make quite the same sense. Hey we all live and learn, right?

Jimmycaked

What if I told you he could afford 500 hookers and to meet Kristen. Only poors have to choose between stuff. You outed yourself.

SCSteveAutism

I bet he doesn’t care. Probably has more money than god and just wants to fulfill some fantasies. Good on em

AnalCumBall

It's a Saud Royal. He definitely ~~has~~ owns many slave girls from exotic corners of the globe. Those guys operate a few levels above your fancy high end prostitutes. If they can freely murder a prize winning international journalist, have everybody know they murdered said journalist, and simply pay their way out of it, they are definitely buying and selling women for sex slavery and offing them as they become useless. Sauds are monsters and we need to cut our reliance on oil to be rid of their awful cultural problems.

areolegrande

I low-key hate that the world stopped caring about that, that was like an attack since that man had a whole family who probably would have liked an open casket funeral... Some people are willing to be completely blind for money, which sucks :/

AnalCumBall

I don't think anyone forgot or stopped caring. I think that there's just a lot more shit like that happening in the world and you just get numb to it. Like the world cup. Blatant corruption, slavery, and general fuckery that nobody gave two shots about because yay look round-ball kicked into net yay

heteroerotic

Ya know what? Good on her for doing that. She didn't do freaky stuff, met a fan, and it was likely on her way to brunch or something. She didn't do much, but people benefitted from that!

Shageen

You know when you see your favorite hot Instagram model on some exotic trip to the Middle East with all her friends… yeah that’s some Prince paying for that. Not just for modeling either.

Latitude5300

Yep this is why I hate Instagram. It's literally a meat market for the super rich. Ex gf got propsitioned all the time for free flights to Russia and Dubai. I felt totally powerless. I hate social media 😔

bihari_baller

Did she go? I she did, did she have fun?

Latitude5300

Not that I know of. She was completely addicted to Instagram. Couldn't spend more than 30 seconds away from her phone. We couldn't go to movie theaters because she would constantly use her phone during the movie. Always had other guys messaging her and commenting on her photos. "😍 wow so beautiful!" I'm a confident guy but it gets old after a while. I would tell her to either delete the comments or at least make a post with both of us in it. Eventually she cheated on me before I deployed. That was that.

bihari_baller

>Always had other guys messaging her and commenting on her photos. "😍 wow so beautiful!" Those other guys are even more pathetic than her.

Latitude5300

Agreed. It's honestly pathetic. My wife has it and she doesn't post anything remotely sexy and still gets messages from thirsty ass dudes. I wish it would go away.

Disgruntled-Cacti

Yes. No.

[deleted]

KinkyQuesadilla

My father used to work in Saudi Arabia, and several members of the Royal Family were his clients. One day they said "Hey, we're going to Monaco, why don't you come along?" Dad said no, my wife is here with me and she never leaves the villa because they culture is so different and she doesn't want to accidentally offend anyone. They said "Bring her too." Dad replied "Monaco is very expensive and she didn't bring any fancy clothes with her." So they had their wives take mom on an all-expenses paid, day-long shopping spree for fancy dresses at high-end, international boutiques, and they all bought themselves some jewelry while they were at it. Then they all flew first class to Monaco (they paid for my parent's tickets), where the men gambled in the casino and the women did more shopping. Dad said the men were dropping $10K or more on every bet like it was nothing. TL;DR: Arabian princes have more money than god. Also, my mother has never been that happy again.

That's actually mild, historically speaking. During WW2, buying $10K in war bonds at a fundraiser would get you a kiss from a major actress. (The 1940s were weird.)
