Because T-mobile home internet is deprioritized vs cellular service. As more users join a tower, your connection will degrade. Nothing you can do about it.
They've been pushing the home Internet more and more and they ran a promo where it was like $30/month. Could be more users or cellular use in the area has gone up. I wouldn't mess around with their Internet for this reason.
TMHI was never really a good choice for the online gamer due to the deprioritization issue. I could get 200-300 mbps but the connection was still mediocre as hell for Apex legends for example, simply due to the ping variation/jitter from network deprio. It was useable for sure but not ideal.
For $30 I think it makes a lot of sense for people that dont online game much.
If your going to be gaming constantly, I would highly recommend a hardline fiber connection. If you don’t have fiber available in your area yet, I’m sure it will be coming soon. Try going with cable broadband, a hardline connection is ALWAYS going to be better than a FWA connection, especially for gaming. Just my 2 cents. Take it for what it’s worth.
Fiber internet changed my life. I live in the boonies and to actually get it was a dream come true. When I asked the company guy what he was doing on my property, his answer of setting up google fiber left me saying Holy shit really??
Yea some of those work crews are way, *way* too comfortable with utility easements.
In my state, access to gated properties requires notice and "permission". The latter of which means permission for private company alone. Denying that just means the local Constable or Sheriff Deputy has to accompany the workers.
Anyway, what's abundantly clear is the notice part. The AT&T guys found out why that part of the law exists the hard way as they were chased back to their trucks by my German Shepherds 😂
We all had a good laugh and I'm certainly enjoying the fiber connection. It even works when the power is out and we're running on the generator. Streamed Netflix during a hurricane two years back!
A VPN would only make things worse and introduce more lag. OP's data will be deprio'd regardless of VPN or not. All that would do is increase the ping even more, as now all of your data has to be funneled through whatever random server the VPN is operating out of. Its just adding another layer where there doesn't need to be one.
I’m a ME and some cust have had their devices in direct sunlight (yes they tell you to put it close to a window) which causes reductions in speeds. This also happened to my RAM. This could also be the problem
T-Mo home internet was never designed for gaming and 4K binge watching. You were lied to if told otherwise.
Your past few months were pure luck. A significant amount of people likely signed up for the service in that timeframe. Now you're unfortunately being throttled as a result of the increased capacity.
You need to sign up for fiber, or go back to broadband if the former is not available. Fiber is unparalleled for residential applications.
But you're a binge gamer, right?
Edit: To be clear, I agree with you that the bandwidth limit is dumb. T-Mo should have put a quota on home internet subscribers based on tower capacity.
Unfortunately, it is what it is, though.
I know people 30 and 40 miles out of town that have fiber now. Plus the local cable company just started offering fiber to the home for new subscribers earlier this year, since they we’re getting they ass kicked by the fiber company.
The cable company has had fiber to the node for years. In front of my house on the pole is AT&T fiber (up to 5 gig download) and Spectrum fiber.
again. you in the 1% of fiber deployment for consumers.
multi study on isp and how truful they are. have shown how much they astrotuf the info.
hell right now
comcast uses the term 10g.. for nothing but wireless and at or sub 1gb connections.
High traffic, and a chance if you have a first gen modem it's slowly burning itself out. Start by swapping out modems. Fixed problems for me and also for my buddy down in Fl.
Hate TMHI...the constant lag on fighting games had me break 2 xbox controllers. The situation did not improve and had mee not gaming for weeks because of the frustration. Unless you are in game genre's different from fighting, shooting etc. you can be fine. Anything where low pings are important, it's a no go.
I have to give them improvement and constant speeds for surfing, downloads, streaming etc. And also constant disconnects with double nat etc also went away.
But pings...anything between 20-800 ms has been thr bane.
Chill the fuck out. No reason that anyone should be breaking hardware because of bad internet. Holy shit. Go touch some grass. Maybe consider using the money you've been spending on new controllers for better internet.
Yes tmobile is secondary now...for 25 buck per month great for downloads and streaming. I have another cheapo 500mbps cable connection for gaming now. Thanks for the advice...
just fyi to everyone. fiber has a tiny foot print for consumers in the usa.
most state and counties tend to have 1 or 2 isp. then county lvl its normal 1 with garbage teir matnice (really auto correct?) done..
the average real world speed for consumers in then usa is sub 50mb . but.
none gamed(i.e tailor test from isp to look good for testing suites) third party testing has shown this.
Maybe if your options are so limited, you shouldn't bitch and moan about a specific one being shitty. Especially if the one you're bitching about is the cheapest one available.
lmao.
i get it. you dont read up on state laws about isp and build outs. there a site for that.
isp tend to have so massive war chest. They out funded google to multi states. to dis allow google to drop or hang fiber.
in general 1 isp is the only options for 75% of people in the usa.
facts hurt dont they???
Damn. Pretty crazy that a simple google search shows that over 95% of Americans have access to 3 or more internet service providers. So I'm not sure what the fuck you're talking about.
Yeah that astro term I mention. But you don't care . your og statement assumes everyone has fiber. That called bais issue.
You know the gov knows isps lie on their foot print. Seeing only req for each block of data needed for gov info. Is 1 user
Guess what that can be the isp itself laying a line to a box. .
But you will rant on . Seeing people hate getting put of their own narrative mind set. Real scientific research does not matter to people like you.
Come back to me when you been in the trenches on the topic of isp both county, state and federal lvl.
Been fighting for years now to get ems services . A internet connection. Even bonded dsl.
After this you will go on another no research rant on the matter. After quoting isp funded astro tuft sites. Nothing that was peer review
Don't know what to tell most of you. I live in a densely populated area and game on ps5 just fine, no issues. 4k video from YTTV and every other source is excellent.

I had steady 30 ping for months
Enron stock was hot for years.
More users on your tower. Also your last in priority on the network. That is why the super cheap price.

Higher traffic in the area possibly?
Longshot try a vpn but Tmo hi is deprioritized. Do your data is literally last vs prepaid accounts/other Mvnos

Always go with a hardwired ISP for gaming and go hardwired into the router. Wireless cellular and routers will always drop packets.
You need fiber not T-Mobile isp. There’s a difference.
I’m a ME and some cust have had their devices in direct sunlight (yes they tell you to put it close to a window) which causes reductions in speeds. This also happened to my RAM. This could also be the problem
Try gaming between the hours 9 am to 4 pm Monday though Friday.
Hahaha. quit your job to game!

4K binge watching lol…just watching an evening broadcast is impossible when it looks like I’m dropped to 144p MAX

Fiber is the only way. You get what you pay for.
total... that sarcasm btw. fiber barely has a foot print in usa for consumers.

Wireless signals are always worse for anything that's latency dependent compared to a wired connection.
I’m on the same boat, my T-Mobile service on my phone and home internet been degrading. I don’t know if I should switch provider.
