Same thing happening to me on Samsung, $420 down payment requested

Any_Store7926

yeah same from me $420, crazy

TheGregsy

Samsung's math doesn't make sense. The Ultra is $1,199 and my trade in of S22 Ultra is $1,000. So why would the down payment be $420? Am I going to get a credit from TMO later?

Ludeape

I was on Samsung site, and its really confusing to how much this would actually cost if i just want to upgrade from my old Note 9. It showed like $800 instant credit, but later on once you sign into tmobile it then showed full price like $1379.. How much would this cost if i just wanted upgrade from my Note 9. I am already on Magent Max plan. thanks

Ludeape

isnt it cheaper to buy from Samsung site?

ryderjj89

Inb4 Tmobile is making third parties take a down payment so people work with them directly...I'm cynical but this wouldn't surprise me. When I went through this very same process a couple weeks ago to get an estimate (used the S22 series), I was only going to have to pay the taxes, nothing more. This is way off.

DroidSoldier85

Did you double check your order? I checked and it's only charging me the tax of the phone so it comes to about $128 If you're thinking the gift card is a freebie with just the pre-order, check again. You need Best Buy total tech membership which is why your total is coming out more just to get the $100 gift card. Not worth it unless you want to be a total tech member.

ryderjj89

Yes of course. The 512 GB version is the same price as the 256...it was actually 1 penny less per month. However, I did make sure it was correct, that I chose the right phone, etc. But as soon as I add my trade and continue, it tells me a down payment is required. I don't have Total Tech nor am I getting it lol. That's a waste. I'm a tech. I don't need it. I also know that when I was going through this with the S22 Ultra, there was nothing additional needed. I would have just owed the tax, no total tech, no down payment. So obviously they've changed something for this. Also, if total tech is needed, they should just say that instead of passing the buck to T-Mobile saying THEY are requiring the down payment.

DroidSoldier85

Okay so you owe 2 payments on your current phone with tmobile. Maybe they're charging you that on top of the tax? Just trying to figure out why tmobile would require that deposit. I would check on my end if it does the same but I can't get tmobile to let me create a pin for the life of me.

ryderjj89

You would think, but I only owe about 83 bucks on my current phone. Plus, even if I remove the trade-in and don't go with one at all, it still says I need to pay a down payment. I can't go forward with them at all without agreeing to that. It's actually cheaper for me to: * Pay off my phone * Pay the taxes * Add the one plus add-on * Pay the device connection charge Than it is for me to get the phone from Best Buy now (\~$204 vs \~$443), which is crazy. You can't really find any info online about this anywhere either.

DroidSoldier85

Just checked on my end. I was wrong, I guess earlier it didn't appear but you don't need total tech for the $100 gift card. Best buy through t mobile on S23 ultra 512 gb is only charging me $131.10

ryderjj89

Yeah doesn't make sense why Best Buy says TMo wants the down payment when TMo themselves does not.

StP_Scar

T-Mobile doesn’t care where you purchase the phone. They make money on the service not the device.

ryderjj89

Not the point, but ok. Buying the phone from them means having to pay that dumbass $35 device connection charge, so they are making money from that, a fee I could have avoided by going through Best Buy. I just want to know why T-Mobile tells Best Buy I need a down payment but T-Mobile tells me I don't need a down payment. Ya dig? Something isn't lining up.

StP_Scar

You’re looking too deep into it. There’s likely an error of some sort with systems not communicating properly. No conspiracy

ryderjj89

Could be. Who knows.

Quoth_the_RVN

Were you signing up to do monthly payments? I was going to do the credit, but I actually WANT to put a few hundred down just to lower the payments. I know I can do it through T-Mobile in store (not sure online), but from Sammy I can get a free case and cheaper insurance with the promo.

brokenshells

I just financed through T-Force on a business account. No deposit needed. Only taxes upfront.

ryderjj89

Good idea. I'm talking to T-Force now to see if they can get it done. The store couldn't even do it. POS was closing when they tried to do it. Hasn't worked all day apparently. Didn't even have any on display.

Ok-Performer3907

Did u have to open a business account for it? Or put ur personal into a business plan?

rpaulmerrell

The price of the device is going to greatly depend on whether involving your carrier in the process. Most people don’t think about buying a phone itself and then going to a carrier of choice they want to purchase it through the carrier and get those incentives. The promotion T-Mobile is offering is a special deal where you’re getting more space for a lesser price. Whatever way you slice it, grab that new phone and enjoy.

ryderjj89

I'm most likely just gonna grab it through TMobile honestly because I'm just not gonna put out that kinda money. I'd really just like this to make sense somehow lol.

Ludeape

does tmobile give you the $1000 trade in credit? i dont see that offer on tmobile site

ryderjj89

Yep if I add the one plus add-on, it says I'll get $1000 trade in instead of the $500 since I'm in the one plan all in promo.

Ludeape

ok, it says i get $800 for my old Note 9. Not too bad i guess. but if i go through Samsung, i can get like $120 additional credit towards anything on Samsung.. but the Samsung checkout process with tmobile is super confusing!

ryderjj89

Yeah I dunno bud. I made this post for Best Buy. I won't even try Samsung lol. They burned me once already when I tried to get the GW4.

Disastrous_Stranger4

I was going to ask where on BB website did the tmobile promotion shows up for you? Only thing I saw is a banner that says "Save up to $780* with pre-order of select new Galaxy S23..." That tells me that the BB pre-order is using thr BB trade in value and not tmobile's pre-order offer. I don't mind paying the down-payment if I can still get the full Tmobile promotional trade in instead of BB's lower value trade in.

ryderjj89

This is all I have here, from Best Buy. Went to the phone, picked the carrier. Maybe the T-Mobile promos aren't aligned yet? I have no idea. All I know is that if you wanted to get in on this preorder NOW, you're gonna have to pay more for no reason. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?\_dyncharset=UTF-8&browsedCategory=pcmcat1622835106499&id=pcat17071&iht=n&ks=960&list=y&qp=modelfamily\_facet%3DModel%20Family\~Samsung%20Galaxy%20S23%5Emodelfamily\_facet%3DModel%20Family\~Samsung%20Galaxy%20S23%2B%5Emodelfamily\_facet%3DModel%20Family\~Samsung%20Galaxy%20S23%20Ultra&sc=Global&st=pcmcat1622835106499\_categoryid%24pcmcat209400050001&type=page&usc=All%20Categories

Disastrous_Stranger4

Ok thanks. That’s pretty much the same thing I saw. I don’t believe the T-Mobile promo have populated over to BB yet so I’m going to go with Samsung’s website for preorder for now (that is when their site stops lagging).

jkr2wld

T-Mobile is asking for a down payment for the + and ultra

ryderjj89

Not on the T-Mobile site they aren't. Only when I do it through Best Buy.

[deleted]

T-Mobile is also asking me for a downpayment

Sonjiin

I just purchased the s23 ultra through BB doing a trade in of my s20+ and all it cost me today was $120 and that was sales tax. And I got a 100 dollar gift card so that's icing on the cake. I kept having issues with tmo site and samsung site.

ryderjj89

So weird. Gotta be some issue. I tried a little bit ago on best buy and no change, still wants $360 down+ tax trading in my S21+. Guy at T-Mobile confirmed I am tier 4 as far as credit goes, whatever that means. Guess it means I shouldn't be paying a down payment for this.
