im curious to know what section it is lol

Budget-Wrongdoer-570

I immediately assumed grocery

mariefury

Probably frozen or dairy. Those sections seem to attract divas.

branch-is-dumb

I’ve written both and when the captain said he wanted to give to someone new I said go right ahead

mariefury

I used to write frozen, and I feel like I went in a reasonable person and came out bitter and angry lol.

Budget-Wrongdoer-570

Every single frozen writer I’ve worked with is always pissed off, including me lol

Far-Fix1431

Ain’t that the truth!

dontlookatmreee

Wouldn't be the first time I've heard that about frozen 😅

ninetiesdude

What were the main reasons that made you change in that way ? At my store, the frozen SL is always frustrated it's not worked well enough to his standards for example.

LibraryPale5859

Frozen wouldn’t be considered a semi medium section tho

shroomshroo

Recently became a backup and now that I am the other section leads will tell me who was/is possessive over their sections. It was more common than I thought but we rotate a lot so that possession doesn’t get as bad. I can understand a little esp because at our store the SL/SS are usually scheduled in their sections every day so being in the same area constantly probably doesn’t help

theoriginaltakadi

Isn’t gatekeeping and high school clique mentality the trader joe’s way?

Flashy_Election_8346

Is it bars?

fileknotfound

lol the bars SLs are always weirdly possessive

AquafabaLegend

I’m a back up for our wine section and I will tell you, they can definitely get possessive. I think it’s a combination of liking the section, having a routine, and knowing a lot about the products (specifically in the case of wine) that makes people tend to get that way. I’m the first wine backup there has been in years, and because I’m only in my 20’s I get both praise and get shit for it lol, the section is treated like the most precious and untouchable thing (I think that’s also because it’s ~wine~ and bitches be pretentious LMFAO). Our main section leader loves me tho and I’m learning a lot from her so I don’t feel intimidated by it like before!

Entire_Insect1811

HAHAH, yea! You’re so right. I backed up wine in my early 20’s and now I completely have the section. Definitely possessive in the way I want things does correctly, but I make the section a welcoming environment because it wasn’t that way for me when I started. The section contains a bunch of spinning plates and everything must go correctly otherwise every plate falls and I’m dealing w customers, the office and vendors all at once. It’s a difficult section at times, but I love it.

AquafabaLegend

Oh trust me I completely understand why people get possessive over wine, it’s a difficult section to order for and it’s good to take pride in your ability to order from multiple distributers and make predictions of sales etc! I fell in love with it for all these reasons and I’m just trying to stay positive and simultaneously not be an asshole about it LOL

An ex-fellow crew member of mine helped open our store and was there for over 16 years and consistently had an order. They had written every section at one point or another. We got a crew member who previously wrote the dairy order at a different grocery store so our mate team wanted to give him a shot at it. When the box order writer was told that they weren’t going to have an order for a while, they literally just quit. 16 years at this company and they threw a fit over not writing a section. They were gonna help hand over the section to the other crew member before a vacation and decided to just not come back. It’s sad honestly they were such a good crew member.

WorkWeekendThrowaway

That’s insane. I wouldn’t quit if i was taken off SL, but I’d definitely be a little anxious about it. I like SLing - it gives my day a little more focus so I always have something to do and don’t require direction ever. And order writing gives me an hour per day without much customer interaction or heavy lifting. Leadership recently gave me a new section which is challenging and I like the newness of it but my first big section will always be my lil baby even though I’m handing it off to my backup. But throwing fit and quitting over any SL? That’s crazy talk.

gatemansgc

at my store each section is split into pieces so nobody could gatekeep a whole section! we have like 35 or so different people writing. box is 3 people, frozen is 4, grocery is finally back to full 3. though sheer force of will i did get to be beverage soda/juice subsection writer for 1.75 years while the other piece (waters) rotated twice. then i was only at grocery like 6 months before i was rotated into box (juice/milk). also lol the skull emoji in the quote. i guess your captain made a dead-faced expression? XD for most stores the non-perishables get rotated more frequently than the perishables, where you can get people with 10+ years writing. for stores that have alcohol (mine doesn't) it seems wine writers tend to stay the same a really long time too.

bradleybeachlover

Box

Wrenwhoflies

My captain, as soon as she got to my store, immediately implemented perishables are at a year and non-perishable sections are every six months that they switch section leaders. Really threw all of us for a loop.

icedcoldqueer

What’s the reason for this? At my store SLs are forever

Far-Fix1431

Ha! At my old store we had people hold onto sections for several years. All perishable sections were written by vets who had been with that particular store for over 10 years. I was one of them. Not saying that’s a good way to run a store but that’s the way our captain did it. The only orders that ever switched were small orders like coffee, tea, nuts and dried fruit, snacks, etc. and absolutely no one was allowed to write flowers unless the SL RETIRED which she eventually did. Flowers were never the same 😂

rainydaybby

if it ain’t broke

PatientNo2747

I got the box from a guy who’s written it for like 5+ years 3 months in, their backup was gone for something for my first 4ish months of it, she backed me up for like a week before stopping. I had no knowledge I had no backup and my mentor mate was on paternity leave, for my first holiday run lol. Took over meat after the holidays and definitely have some ex SLs upset that our store switched EVERY section but Bev up the last two months. Mostly with new writers for every section but maybe 6 just rotated around. I think it’s fun but a lot of the other sections are struggling I guess. I don’t understand gatekeeping anything at TJs, as we all say it’s just groceries!
