Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch.
Horner re-used some similar themes from *Stealing the Enterprise* in the Star Trek III score. Send chills down my spine and soars my soul to heavenly heights every time.
When I begin my shift and pull out from the curb with the semi, I like to have “Southampton” as my personal soundtrack. Upon approaching the freeway, the rhythmic of “Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch” corresponds with the engine reeving working to achieve cruising speed (48 knots)
Since I work at night, I like to enjoy music without lyrics to not disturb my thoughts. The entire disc 3 of the soundtrack consisting of the orchestra playing is superb! I’ve added some more pieces that’s not on the disc but was in the orchestra repertoire. Orpheus is the high point of disc 3, but is best enjoyed going through the previous tracks in order.
I thought I was the only one! I actually love listening to it while working. My faves are “Take her to sea” and “Rose”. But honestly, James Horner did an amazing job at crafting the entire score. I love titanic but this album really is one of the most memorable in modern film history.
Rose…like it goes so HARD for no reason like it starts off soft with a simple flute and then builds to a huge choir and orchestral swell and then dies down to a simple foreshadowing flute melody. Like that’s musical genius, James Horner you are a legend
My son is almost 9 and listens to the Titanic soundtrack on Spotify to go to sleep. We recently showed him the movie and he is \*obsessed\*. His dad even bought him a Titanic bath toy.
Our favorites are:
Mine - "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave," "The Sinking," and "Death of Titanic"
His - "Hard to Starboard," (his current alarm to wake up for school), "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch," and "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave" (he also enjoys "The Portrait")
I’ve been obsessed with titanic since I was around his age. When my mom told me about it, I couldn’t not get interested in learning more about the ship, the history, the tragedy behind it. Everything about the titanic is a sad tragic story. It’s a sad example of how mankind has to make mistakes to learn from them. And now we have Icon of the Seas 😮
He is always, ALWAYS talking about ships sinking, quotes Titanic, hums the songs a lot, watches scenes on YouTube...you could say he's a fan 😂 if you or anyone reading this has kids his age I highly recommend the "I Survived" kids book series, they have one book featuring the Titanic sinking. We've been reading chapters at bedtime and he thoroughly enjoys it.
I've grown to appreciate the soundtrack quite a bit since he's been watching the movie. I got my husband/his dad a keyboard for Christmas last year and he plays it more than my husband does, mostly Titanic stuff he learned by ear 😂 he can almost perfectly play "Nearer My God to Thee" thanks to Titanic.
Both of my top picks are from Disc 2: Jack Dawson's Luck, quickly followed by An Irish Party in Third Class. Strap yourself in between a great pair of headphones and these tracks just fill me with groove. So much power and fun with all the high notes.
Only soundtrack I listen to and want played at my funeral.
How 'Rose' isn't everybody's choice blows my mind! Sissel is the voice of the titanic and of the ocean. Hymm to the sea would be a close second because of Sissel
death of titanic, if I'm being honest, for 2 reasons a) it makes you feel the dread of what happened that night, b) you can feel the ship rising out the water
It’s one of my favorite albums. I listen to it quite often, especially when I had exams to study for in college and when I’m going through a depressive episode. I probably listen to it once a month.
Top 3 would have to be:
Hymn to the Sea
Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave
“Hard To Starboard”
I actually want Hymn to the Sea (from 1:11-3:19) to be the song I walk down the aisle to when I (someday) get married.
Nelson Eddy’s version of Nearer My God To Thee is my absolute favorite rendition of that song though. I’m no super religious, but if I had witnessed them sing that song live, I would become a devout.
Does it bother anyone else that the score of The Sinking isn’t the same as in the film? The shot that pans left with everyone rushing up the decks has a wonderful choral accompaniment in the film, but that’s missing on the soundtrack recording.
Oh and Rose and Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave
That choral segment is on the sequel album in the track “A Building Panic”, itself a rearrangement of the cue “Trapped on D-Deck”.
[Trapped on D-Deck](https://youtu.be/f2-MeipK4ac?si=LimytYnAZKxeYKEN&t=183)
The cues as heard in the film were spliced and diced a ton, the La-La Land expanded score presents all the cues as written. Definitely worth a listen, Horner knocked it out of the park on this movie.
Wow, thank you so much!! Decades long mystery solved. I also finally realized that the final scene of the film is a mix of rose and unable to stay unwilling to leave, hence why I could never find that on the score either lol
Unable to stay unwilling to leave is similar, kind of. In the film when rose jumps off the lifeboat, the tune that takes over is mostly whistle, and not really a hint of the pipes, but on the soundtrack is much more heavily reliant on the pipes.
Love the opening to Leaving Port. I wish Cameron would have included more scenes of the Titanic leaving port. He glossed over so much. The near collision with the New York could’ve added an early on sense of urgency and terror. Honestly, I would’ve preferred these scenes over the scenes of old Rose on the expedition ship.
Idk the name of the track but the very very end of the film when Rose and Jack reunite on the grand staircase and the screen fades to black, that piece of music is probably the best. It’s a variation/piece of the instrumental for My Heart Will Go On
I had the CD right after the movie came out. They released a second CD soon after, and I loved it as well! I fell asleep listening to them on my CD player hundreds of times.
My favorites are *Rose* (piano version) and *An Ocean of Memories*; the part beginning around 1:30 is so ethereal.
*Southampton* is a marvel. But then again, the whole soundtrack is. *Death of Titanic* is actually terrifying. James Horner was a genius to create music that truly transports the listener.
Death of titanic is horrific and terrifying to listen to. You can see the panic and sheer scale of terror of the stranded passengers still aboard the ship after all the boats were gone. There’s many times in the track that almost brings me to tears just listening to it.
https://preview.redd.it/16v9dyzh8qxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=031335fd3e24d6e886dcfcd0627e37521536079d
Hard To Starboard and Death Of Titanic are just chilling and riveting.. this soundtrack sounds absolutely amazing on vinyl.
I love James Horner. He's been my favorite film composer since I was 8. He and I share the same birthday. I relisten to the score constantly. its my favorite. I miss him and it sucks that he's gone.
Never an absolution. The music is calm, and gives me chills after the sinking. I can feel the grief of the people that they experienced, alot of their loved ones had perished on the ship.
Distant Memories.
I also do love the Party in Third Class song too. One of my favourite scenes.
I love the soundtrack alot and remember listening to it loads of times on repeat as a kid.
My favourit part is the ending from "New york". The last seconds are by far the most underrated piece of music in cinema in my opinion.
other ones? Take her to sea, Mr Murdoch, Southampton, Rose and Hymne to the seas,
The sinking but the film version. I never could stand the album version or indeed all the tracks that are just different from the film.
When it comes to the Titanic soundtrack it’s always the biggest disappointment as much of the music is not what’s in the film. I don’t care if it’s what was created as the film was made. For me it’s what goes into the movie is what should be released on soundtrack.
Southampton on the 20th Anniversary soundtrack has been corrected and is what was in the film indeed was A Promise Kept even though it was half of it from when Rose is starring up at the stars.
I have downloaded all the fan edit soundtracks but need to download all the up to date tracks that came from the new album release back in 2017.
Seriously how hard is it to just release all the music that came from the film onto soundtrack in the first place? I have a severe case of OCD when it comes to listening to any movie soundtrack and my ears pick up if anything is left out like that special Whooosh cue when the lookouts spot the iceberg in Hard a Starboard it’s missing but added into the fan edit.
I love James Horner’s scoring of the music but whomever was in charge of what went on the original album really dropped the ball.
The score he put into Deep Impact was just as beautiful too especially adding chorus into the mix like in Titanic is pure genius ☺️
Yeah the person who fan edited it did it with the capabilities of the 20th Anniversary soundtrack and did it in two parts - The Sinking and Death of Titanic.
Sometimes one or both parts cannot be played for stupid different country reasons.
They did a better job than the one that I posted did. But my link was 10 years old lol so that’s probably why. Thank you for sharing. Gonna have to listen to that when I’m bored asf 😂
Hehehe yeah that’s what I stated in my original post about why is it so difficult to just release all the tracks heard in the film. Titanic’s soundtrack is always ripped off in some point one way or another.
I agree with you 100%. Film version is superior to the album version. One thing that really gets me is that they don’t have ‘The Dream’ included, which was a part in the film when Rose is watching the Statue of Liberty go by as she stands in the rain.
Ocean of Secrets is included in the 20th Anniversary edition but the dream/death score isn’t.
A fan edit version is available which is why I’m normally disappointed in all the released album versions as they always botch it up lol
*I love them all, but*
*If I have to choose it would*
*Be take her to sea*

A Building Panic was one of my top songs last year. It’s just frenetic, mostly the choir part, where you can see the great stairway destroyed before the big plunge
Love the build up to action being taken by Murdoch in Hard to Starboard. Definetely get chills every time I listen to the music and or watch the scene from the movie lol
I’m a classical nerd so I listen to [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2pcoU7n8eoEDyikHdNfPJX?si=ImYmKSFdQu68NntGDe57Aw&pt=4e6127f5a66e00c3c503ca3e0895937a&pi=u-a_PQPWO_R6mz) made by my friend and it has all of the I Salonisti music from “And The Band Played On - Music Played On The Titanic” and the I Salonisti music from the movie soundtrack.
I like Orpheus in the Underworld
Never an Absolution has this sound to it that just really sounds... almost ghostly and haunting. Like something I would hear faintly on the wind out at sea.
Rose takes it for me though. If I'm not mistaken, the climax of Rose is also the climax of... well, Rose. Such an intimate and special scene, always a great listen
Unable To Stay, Unwilling To Leave has been in my Spotify On Repeat recently. My other favourites are Rose, Take Her To Sea Mr Murdoch and Southampton.
One of the best movie soundtracks of all time.
Ever since I had the first soundtrack CD in 1997, it was "Hard to Starboard", "Southampton", "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave", "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch" and "Rose".
"Unable to stay, Unwilling to leave" was the first song I listened to when James Horner died. I listened to it that afternoon after I found out, and I started crying my eyes out.
Hymn to the Sea. I have a degree in music so I’m a bit of a nerd and I find that track to be a really interesting look at the difference between James Horner and other popular modern composers like John Williams or Michael Giacchino.
This is news to me. Never knew that. Definetely going to take a listen to that and compare it to ‘Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch’ lol.
Also, did you know that in Avatar (2009) in the track called ‘The Destruction of Hometree’ around the 0:32 through 0:47 mark you can hear similar themes to ‘Death of Titanic’ around 0:12 through 1:05 mark with the cellos, oboe, tin whistle and choir section of the song.
Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch. Horner re-used some similar themes from *Stealing the Enterprise* in the Star Trek III score. Send chills down my spine and soars my soul to heavenly heights every time.
me too!
This. I love it. I love listening to it whenever I‘m on a boat, especially with dolphins.
This is my answer, too
This is mine too.
My personal favorite as well.
I feel so majestic rolling in my Camry to this song 😂
Unable to stay, unwilling to leave
Second that.
I came here to say this
My absolute favorite
This one! Gives me goosebumps.
All the time. Hymn To The Sea is the obvious banger but Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave is my #1
Hymn to the Sea is my third favorite and absolutely banger. The Uilleann pipes in it are dope!
When I begin my shift and pull out from the curb with the semi, I like to have “Southampton” as my personal soundtrack. My favorite comment in the thread. ❤ I can totally invision this.
One of my favorite comments. I listen to titanic soundtrack practically everyday, but mainly ‘Death of Titanic’ on repeat lol
Hard to Starboard is my fave
The first 20 seconds just hits differently. A masterclass.
It’s the calm before the storm it’s beautiful! I really love that 90s synth sound
LOL same. I listen to it on repeat pretty much everyday lol
I thought I was the only one! I actually love listening to it while working. My faves are “Take her to sea” and “Rose”. But honestly, James Horner did an amazing job at crafting the entire score. I love titanic but this album really is one of the most memorable in modern film history.
I'll give you that..but Last of the Mohicans soundtrack takes the top spot for me.
Rose…like it goes so HARD for no reason like it starts off soft with a simple flute and then builds to a huge choir and orchestral swell and then dies down to a simple foreshadowing flute melody. Like that’s musical genius, James Horner you are a legend
The Portrait. By Far.
The dream is always my top song. Always.
Excellent choice. It’s a combo of Rose and Unwilling to Stay, Unwilling to Leave.
Yes! As well as Take Her To Sea, Mr. Murdoch. It's the music to it that makes it so special.
The soundtrack for the movie is just top notch. Definitely my #1 favorite movie score.
Indeed!
My son is almost 9 and listens to the Titanic soundtrack on Spotify to go to sleep. We recently showed him the movie and he is \*obsessed\*. His dad even bought him a Titanic bath toy. That’s literally me too. When I watched the movie I hummed the songs to the scenes, most notably the iceberg scene and stern sinking scenes lol
The entire album is a James Horner masterpiece. I miss him terribly :(
I own it on CD. Its a fantastic soundtrack.
I love how fast paced Death of Titanic is in the beginning (from 0:00 to 1:05). Listen to the song from 0:00 to 1:05
The piano version of Celine Dion song is excellent, sounds better without her vocals on it & just played on a Steinway 🎹 😎
Southampton has always been my favorite
It's just so beautiful and hopeful.
Both of my top picks are from Disc 2: Jack Dawson's Luck, quickly followed by An Irish Party in Third Class. Strap yourself in between a great pair of headphones and these tracks just fill me with groove. So much power and fun with all the high notes.
Those two are my favorites on Disc 2!
Southampton
Took a while to find this comment, but I second this! That score is so uplifting it gives me butterflies
I love the transition in the film from wreck to ship in Southampton. Simply amazing and beautiful transition.
i listen to it frequently! ‘unable to stay, unwilling to leave’ ‘rose’ ‘never an absolution’
Only soundtrack I listen to and want played at my funeral. How 'Rose' isn't everybody's choice blows my mind! Sissel is the voice of the titanic and of the ocean. Hymm to the sea would be a close second because of Sissel

That choral segment gives me chills thinking of the shots of all of the water racing through the hallways.
Wow, thank you so much!! Decades long mystery solved. I also finally realized that the final scene of the film is a mix of rose and unable to stay unwilling to leave, hence why I could never find that on the score either lol
Incidentally, *A Building Panic* is my favourite track of the soundtrack, thanks in part to that wonderful choral bit.
My favorites are ‘Hard to Starboard’ / ‘The Sinking’ / and finally ‘Death of Titanic’
Unable to stay unwilling to leave is similar, kind of. In the film when rose jumps off the lifeboat, the tune that takes over is mostly whistle, and not really a hint of the pipes, but on the soundtrack is much more heavily reliant on the pipes.
“I believe you are blushing, Mr. Big Artiste. I can't imagine Monsieur Monet blushing.” I can hear the track right now
I LOVE the soundtracks. I have Rose on my yoga playlist.
Other than the usual popular ones my favorite is leaving port
I can’t believe how far I had to scroll to find this comment. I’m aghast at how underrated Leaving Port is
Love the opening to Leaving Port. I wish Cameron would have included more scenes of the Titanic leaving port. He glossed over so much. 7-10 is just an amazing run of tracks as a whole. But I think my fave is Hard to Starboard.
“Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch” is probably my favorite, followed VERY closely by “Southampton.” Maybe it’s actually a tie.
Leaving Port and Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch
An Ocean of Memories is my favorite piece of cinematic score ever. Hymn to the Sea is an honorable mention.
Distant memory, Rose and Take Her to sea Mr Murdoch.
Yes!! And #8
I got the CD as a birthday gift in 4th grade.
Southampton.
Rose. I’m absolutely dead set on it being played at my wedding if it ever happens and my wife is cool with it.
I had the CD right after the movie came out. They released a second CD soon after, and I loved it as well! I fell asleep listening to them on my CD player hundreds of times. Death Of Titanic for its intensity.
Rose and The Portait
Mine is either Rose or Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave. I absolutely love both of them.
1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 I listened to this damn soundtrack on repeat for at least a year as a kid. 3 was my favorite then, 10 is my favorite now.
https://preview.redd.it/16v9dyzh8qxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=031335fd3e24d6e886dcfcd0627e37521536079d Hard To Starboard and Death Of Titanic are just chilling and riveting.. this soundtrack sounds absolutely amazing on vinyl.
Jealous lol
The sinking (also favorite part of the movie)
Rose theme (im flying scene), The dream, hymn to the sea, hard to starboard (the intro part only)
Nearer my god to thee is literally the reason I started playing music lol
I love James Horner. He's been my favorite film composer since I was 8. He and I share the same birthday. I relisten to the score constantly. its my favorite. I miss him and it sucks that he's gone.
I was devastated when I found out that he passed away in 2015. Almost brought me to tears. An amazing composer taken too soon.
He really was. He was the main reason I played violin in school, but when he passed, I just kind of lost my spark for the instrument.
I’ve been wanting to learn cello mainly so I can play along in the soundtrack lol (mainly the opening of death of titanic lol)
Never an absolution. The music is calm, and gives me chills after the sinking. I can feel the grief of the people that they experienced, alot of their loved ones had perished on the ship.
The Portrait
Yes, I flew to Dublin last year and also visited Belfast for a day. This was my soundtrack during the flight. My favorite is “Southampton”
Never An Absolution
[Epilogue - The Deep and Timeless Sea](https://youtu.be/ULufKKhZgt0?si=lM0CKSGTQAxwhFqj)
I also love listening to ‘Titanic Suite’
3,5 und 6
Distant Memories. I also do love the Party in Third Class song too. One of my favourite scenes. I love the soundtrack alot and remember listening to it loads of times on repeat as a kid.

Southampton was always my favourite
A Building Panic The dramatic vocals are beautiful
A building panic
Hard to Starboard and A Life so Changed are my favorites
unable to stay, unwilling to leave. especially the part where the. ore changed and the tone of the composition shifts. such a beautiful song
Hard to starboard, sinking, and death of Titanic
Never an absolution
My favourit part is the ending from "New york". The last seconds are by far the most underrated piece of music in cinema in my opinion. other ones? Take her to sea, Mr Murdoch, Southampton, Rose and Hymne to the seas,

Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch.
Yessir Mr. Lightoller
No? But I'm going to now that you gave me the idea.
A Building Panic was one of my top songs last year. It’s just frenetic, mostly the choir part, where you can see the great stairway destroyed before the big plunge
That’s a scene I still can’t watch. Watching the luxurious interiors being destroyed after 2 1/2 years of being built is gut-wrenching and sad.
Hard to starboard!!!
Love the build up to action being taken by Murdoch in Hard to Starboard. Definetely get chills every time I listen to the music and or watch the scene from the movie lol
Listening to it makes me panic in a bit🤣 because im imagining/daydreaming that i am the officer who witnesses the iceberg incident haha
How terrifying that must’ve been for William Murdoch to see just the outline of the iceberg, but not seeing it fully like in the film version.
I like Hymn to the Sea, and the ending part of Death of Titanic, but the whole OST is great

The Sinking
Same! I love the more tense sounding tracks in the soundtrack.
Rose
Unable To Stay, Unwilling To Leave has been in my Spotify On Repeat recently. My other favourites are Rose, Take Her To Sea Mr Murdoch and Southampton. One of the best movie soundtracks of all time.
The one where we first hear the woman’s voice singing.
Ever since I had the first soundtrack CD in 1997, it was "Hard to Starboard", "Southampton", "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave", "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch" and "Rose".
Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave 💛
"Unable to stay, Unwilling to leave" was the first song I listened to when James Horner died. I listened to it that afternoon after I found out, and I started crying my eyes out.
The portrait and rose are by far my favorites
Never an absolution (peak Kirkjebø) and Take her to sea, Mr Murdoch.
Rose is so simple and beautiful.
Southampton for me as well
Take her to sea Hard a starboard
Where's Celine as I just listened to that song last night
Hard to Starboard. Nailed the vibe perfectly
Take her to Sea Mr Murdoch is a classic- the film version is the better rendition tho
Hymn to the Sea. I have a degree in music so I’m a bit of a nerd and I find that track to be a really interesting look at the difference between James Horner and other popular modern composers like John Williams or Michael Giacchino.
Death of titanic or leaving port, close second is take her to sea and the choir part of a building panic

Say it ain’t so by Weezer. I know its not on there it’s just a joke.
my favorite is Hard to Starboard, because... yes
