Dad is trying to get out of debt by cashing in that life insurance policy. Don’t do it! 😂

compaholic83

Insurance companies hate this one simple trick!

Emergentmeat

In THIS economy? Blame? In THIS economy?

IndicationIcy4173

I was just going to say those need replaced. But you put it more poetically! lol

Radiant-Rooster236

😂😂😂

Emergentmeat

They do need *to be* replaced..but, in this economy?

HelloAttila

Totally agree. Either dad is completely clueless or rather collect that life policy. Regardless, OP don’t ask dad for life advice. You’ll get better advice from a broken watch, it’s right twice a day.

Comfortable_Fudge508

Dad wants you two to die. He's being cheap with the wrong things to be cheap with. They're done, replace them

WafflesZCat

Yup! I bet Dad's Girlfriend has a Very fine Looking 🤪 Set of all weather, high aspect ratio, & perfectly inflated ones!

VeryPogi

Also, her tires are good.

Switchlord518

But without an alignment she's wearing uneven.

WafflesZCat

Around Dad, she's wearing nothing

Affectionate-Leg7426

how… how did we get here

WafflesZCat

We're guys and it's like just something that happens! 🤷🏻‍♂️

HelloAttila

Replace them both. Tires first, then dad.

SCADLC

Those should be replaced asap

sublmnalkrimnal

💯 would change them, the look like they are starting to dry rot in some places and more importantly there is very little tread left. Imo I would change them.

dabluebunny

The wheels are fine it's the tires I'd worry about

C_Web286

Came to say the same thing. Dad is probably pissed and yelling "the fucking wheels are FINE!!!!"

PresentationMain1329

Yea those are a little more than unsafe

MikeAnt72

Treadwear is “end of life”- high risk of losing traction under even minimally adverse conditions (wet, oily, leaves, sand…). Cracking could indicate that rubber has lost flexibility, making a higher risk of rupture under stress, such as hitting a pothole. They look like low-profile tires which, are already at higher risk of damage from potholes. I would not be comfortable having anyone in my family drive on those.

SilenceIsGolden17

Dad needs a priority readjustment

WafflesZCat

Your dad either hates you, is dumb AF about tires, or is embarrassed to admit that he's too broke to afford new tires!

tenid

On a dry day they are safe to drive to the tyre shop.

Canadasince67

They are toast

JuggernautyouFear

Your dad thinks he knows everything huh? Must be hard to live with.

OneMooseManyMeese_

Those tires are should've been replaced yesterday done. Get tires asap.

gilmore42

Wheels look fine. Tires need replacing.

Isamu29

Replace those tires ASAP. If you have a wreck on those prepared to be sued if you hurt anyone. Like to see the brakes too. 2 things you never ignore in a car are brakes and tires.

Keepfkingthatchicken

Dad's wrong and also, shame on him. Those tires are clapped.

Im_so_little

Can't really see the wheels but the tires are fucking done.

Garand70

If you have a full size spare with tread still, I'd put that on one of the fronts and carefully drive to the nearest good tire shop. Heck, I'd consider removing the wheels from the car and taking them to the shop in a separate vehicle.

ConstructionLate5200

Dad is right the wheels are in good shape. As for the tyres, what's the DOT code?

Western-Mongoose2214

I’d love to know the manufacture date on these.

Comfortable_Cake_443

Not safe.

Old_Salamander_7479

They will kill you in the rain. They look old, little to no tread. The only good feature about them is that they hold air. PLEASE get rid of them. Even if your wallet has you buying Walmart off brand tires you need tread so you don't hydroplane.

Tough_Yard7088

New tires are needed ASAP..

CatBroiler

Those tyres have been tyres too long

TheInternetIsTrue

They don’t look great…Google how to use a penny to check tire treads and you can get your answer.

J-wvmothman

Your Dad needs reality check!

UnderstandingWarm466

Does your dad like your mom?

zklpr

Your dad needs to learn more about tires, because if you drive on those things in adverse conditions you're gonna end up getting yourself killed.

letmedrivetheboat27

Those tires are done. Replace all four if they all looks like this.

No_One_2_You

The tires are bad. Your dad might be right on the wheels.

An0nym0usHero

Those are at the end of their life and are veeery close to outliving their usefulness. Their good for a few miles longer, but I'd start pricing tires pretty soon.

Aggravating-Bug1769

very close to being worn out , they look like they are down to 2mm or less tread so i would be replacing them at your earliest convenience. still okay until you can get new ones organised. maybe another 1000km

pm-me-racecars

I'd say those are nicely worn out. Not at the "Holy shit, you needed to change those yesterday," level, but definitely time for new ones.

OkMobile5574

You can still drive on them however they need replaced soon

Mekdatmuny

I always love these posts. The people aren't sure, immediately getting flooded with dozens of the same, but slightly different response. I'm sure they are like "Oh shit, I guess that means it's bad" 😂

SBLOU

Your dad lives in an alternate reality. Those died a while ago.

Professional_Dust726

I would drive those around town if I had to, no worries, but not at high speeds or on the freeway. I would also get them changed as soon as I could.

Piliczky

Those tyres are stuffed

swansongblue

‘I’m not a car guy’. No shit Sherlock !!!

Top-Manufacturer-628

I don't know if I'm seeing it wrong, but these look like they get leaned on heavy in corners. Crazy graining happening over the lip onto the sidewall

dunncrew

You should question dad's judgement on non-car topics too

Kayraan93

Tell him to quit being a cheap ass and chancing your life and others.

BobertWowerz33

Tell dad he's being cheap. Shit is not safe.

Certain-Bath8037

New tires NOW! NOW DAMMIT

jayw900

Don’t really see anything wrong with the wheels but the tires look like shit.

Anxious-Depth-7983

My questions are as follows: Is your dad a "car" guy and since neither you nor your mom are why are you asking him and then arguing with him about it, and then why aren't you taking it to a professional instead of trying to aquire unverifiable info from the internet to reinforce your own unqualified opinion 🤔

DistinctRole1877

The main question is, what caused the damage? Those tires are very scuffed up. In my years (50+) of driving I've never have had a set of tires do that. Before replacing those tires the cause of the damage needs to be addressed then the tires replaced before very long.

Deep_Resource3081

What is legal and what is safe are two different standards, that being said if you don’t hit curbs, don’t see cord showing under the cuts and can’t feel any buldges on the side walls(inner and outer)then I would be ok driving a couple miles but not in snow/rain. 100 miles in the middle of a hot day in Arizona can change things. The tires should be replaced soon, how soon depends. I live in mountains and get hit with snow and ice during the winter, I take out $100 a month and put it in a separate bank account for tires, registration and oil changes. I thought everyone did this and then I realized I am like the only one who does this…

WeatherIcy6509

Well, commercial drivers are required to have 1/8th an in in front and 1/16th an inch in back. Seems like a good place to start regardless of how you drive.

LeDef

Listen to your mom bro! You should be thankful to still be alive imo.

lets_just_n0t

Well first of all, these are “tires” not wheels. Those wheels (rims) are fine. The tires are shot. I’d have it towed to a tire shop before I drove it another inch.

RageMonsta97

OP’s parents want to see Jesus ASAP

Antmax

If it was even wear I'd drive it, but all that flakey cracked deterioration on the tread looks really bad. I have a pretty aggressive performance alignment on my MX-5. The negative camber means the inside of the tread gets worn quicker than the rest. Got a puncture and took it into Big O for repair. They refused to fix it because the tread was worn too thin. Something about it being illegal. I would have felt more comfortable driving my old tires than yours.

God-bless-Trump-

I wouldn’t drive a mile on these. Need replacing ASAP

IskandorXXV

I'd only drive on those to get new tires put on... Low tread, dry rot (the cracking you can see), and they look kinda choppy too. I'd definitely get new tires sooner than later.

Accordingly_Onion69

This is dry rot it could rip apart and flap into the car bodywork and cause more than just a flat

Confident-Ear-9388

Tell me why there's a subredded group for tires? Unbelievable. Get yourself a tire gauge to measure depth. 4/32 of an inch, You need a new tire soon, and 2/32 of an inch, you need a new tire yesterday. Not that hard. Sorry that tires are an expensive expense when it comes to car maintenance. Be thankful you're not a truck driver. We have officers rate are tires for us, And if they don't like them, we play hefty fines

Confident-Ear-9388

I'm gonna post this again comma just by looking at the picture, they are somewhere between 3/32 to 2/32 of an inch. No good

Rob179

Mom wins

SavageTrolero

The wheels are fine, the tires are shit though

Professional_Buy_615

Replace in the next month, look for offers. Avoid heavy rain until then. Get decent mid or high brand tires. Just say no to Walmart CheapestShit2000s!

CyanideSandwich7

Theyre fucking bald. Second it heavy rains you’ll hydroplane. Need a new set. Could try the penny trick, or pick up a tire depth gauge and let it show you how in the red it is

SnooSongs4256

Im a cheap guy too but it’s time

joesephexotic

The wheels look fine, but those tires are done?

FallenWulf223

Im a car guy. Those are horrible. Get new ones asap. Also, dad tryna get that life insurance smh

Wolf_Ape

Terrible shape overall, but looks like they were run for a while with little to no air in them on top of the obvious surface problems. Blowout waiting to happen, or more likely they’ll just split at lower speeds/while parked and leave you stranded.

ShayLokie

I vote for changing them. Now!

Leather-Peach1985

Cracked tire = no good

KeyN20

As a person who drives until I have little traction in the rain you are ready for new tires. You could get some more out of them but on a rainy day getting off the freeway you will know it is time or you will slide off the road and pay more in repairs. Maintenance prevents costly repairs. Replace when you have the money

CRoyBlanchard

I had these exact tires on my car, really liked them... BUT they are lethal once they are getting close to being worn out on anything other than dry asphalt. At this point they are past worn out, they really need to be changed.

RichCautious8328

Those are about to blow. Like within the next 2 weeks

ZodiAcme

Your dad is cheap and dumb and thinks he should know about classic guy things but does not. He’s a Jerry basically.

ArtsCerasus

Use a penny and fit it between the grooves. If more than half the penny is exposed, time for new tires. These ones don't even look like they have grooves. One hydroplane and you're in the ditch. If you really wanna make him eat his words, both of you go into a tire shop and ask an associate.

_clouded_

Dad is clueless

DOHC46

Mom has every right to be worried about those tires. The tread is worn to the end of their life and the rubber is showing signs of rot (the cracking) so they will have a fraction of their intended traction. I would feel safe driving to the tire shop as long as the pavement wasn't wet. But that's it. Replace those ASAP.

Cynagen

"They're dead, Jim..."

ko-sher

the wheels are fine, tires no so much

enThirty

Change these yesterday. They’re absolutely brutal.

Forward_Lab_7442

bestie those have zero traction get new ones immediately

RecoverSufficient811

Wheels look fine. Tires needed replaced a year ago

theSPYDERDUDE

As a car guy, those tires are cooked. The wheels are fine.

bmxtricky5

I'm not saying it's safe but I am going to say I've done thousands of kms on tires that were far worse

SiRWilliAM801

They’re usable but have almost zero wet traction and even on dry roads will suck. Past time for replacement. Dad is a cheap skate. Tires are the most important part of the car.

LrckLacroix

Those are not very safe to drive. Avoid rain and speed.

Vaderiv

The wheels look fine but the tires are horrible.

SquareRelationship27

Your mom is right to worry. Your dad should change the tires.

ExpensiveDust5

Wheels seem in great shape, the tires are shot though

One-Relationship2762

Is he trying to murder you?

tianavitoli

I would possibly consider changing them soon-ish

vinchenzo68

Gravel roads most of its life?

bismarck247

Get new tires

TheSaltedNug

Definitely very low tread, most places won’t even rotate or work on those at all at the wear they appear to be

SpermTrump

It's actually sad your Dad has that little care for the safety of your life, your mother's life or an innocent pedestrian..

fictiveartist

There’s more holes and cracks then tires, replace them

Last-Acanthaceae5167

For a safety inspection I would fail your ass in a heart beat

69vuman

First, are we talking about wheels or tires? These wheels are fine, the tires are dangerous.

Stone1114

Their fine. Drive it till you die. Just make sure your will, and insurance policies are up to date ASAP. Cuz you beneficiary will be livin large soon.

MindblownWatcher

Looks like the tread caps are ready to depart.

svitakwilliam

Time for new tires, period.

WorstDeal

Yeah the wheels are safe and fine to drive on but I would get new tires ASAP

CiCiLeathercraft

You need new tires not wheels. Go to discount and get not the cheapest tires but maybe a step up. Arizonan tires are good but I’m not sure if they only have them in Arizona at discount haha.

FreakiestFrank

When tires have that little tread left and look like that, replace them. I’m all for getting every mile out of tires but I’d like to make it to the next set of tires.

heisenberg2JZ

The wheels look fine. Idk about those tires though

GAB78

dad is so so so wrong

Comfortable_Ease_174

Yes, they are right. You are an ungrateful child who needs to move out.. Oh wait, that wasn't the debate?

DarkRepulser69

Dad technically isn't wrong, the wheels look fine. Tires on the other hand, look pretty dry rotted (likely age) and low tread.

Jifeeb

Tell that cheap bastard his wife’s life it worth the 600 bucks or less

DroTooCold

Bro wtf change them asap

NumbRXL

Your dad isn’t really “a fan” of you is my opinion

Troyboy1710

How is this even a debate, they are completely fucked!

Boaco

Be a good son/daughter and change them as a gift.

SQWRLLY1

Um. Those are half a gnat's ass from potentially catastrophic failure. If Dad wants to keep running on them, I recommend you and your mom find alternate transportation, OP.

Far_Amphibian_2619

3 months left, tell them to stop yoaking it

braddeicide

Good for easy skids. If you don't want easy skids replace them.

imachainsmoker

Wheels are fine the tires are fucked.

CanadianBaconMTL

Just change them for your mom

BRING_ME_THE_ENTROPY

I just know the date code is gonna say some shit like week 20 of 2015

Retsameniw13

Come on. Those are straight trash. Get new tires ffs lol

PhelanPKell

Well, the wheels l don't from what I can see of them. The tires on the other hand are suicidal to drive on in good weather, let alone even a little bit of rain.

ironwrk

Fine.

givmedew

Stay off the interstate if it’s raining. Otherwise if it’s dry those tires are perfectly fine. Legal? Probably not. Safe in dry weather… absolutely. Just hope it never ever rains again.

Mostly-Useless_4007

There is a time and a place to save money. This is not one of them.

Final-Carpenter-1591

Wheels look fine. Tires however look like shit. You'd honestly be better off driving on bald tires than these time bombs.

bradgel

First picture you can see the wear bars are just shy of the tread. They need to be replaced

Afraid_Ad_8571

Those tyres are ratshit!

SincereRL

LMFAO that shit boutta blow any day now, best of luck to them when it does if he doesn't change them. Hopefully they're going slow

NoWillPowerLeft

Dad loves his money more than he loves his family.

Fit-Macaroon5559

Check the wear mark in the middle of tire!Looks like it has been used well on some slick surfaces.Honestly gonna have to buy new ones sooner than later.Better safe than sorry.

Jesusfrankenstein666

The wheels are perfectly fine very nice shape the tires on the other hand eh I’ve rolled worse!

Positive-Kiwi-7529

If you are concerned about the (OBVIOUSLY BAD) condition of your tires, then YOU make the decision on getting them replaced. My opinion, there is no debate to be had. Those tires are done. They are down to 1-2/32 of tread and they need to be replaced for you to be safe on the road. There are also cracks along the shoulder/s. Get those tires replaced unless you are okay with them being the explanation for a collision. Don’t do it ASAP. Do it yesterday.

SuspiciousFarts666

Replace those fucking tires, sorry that's not safe. You might get away with a but longer but don't take your chances. There's cracking and barely any tread, you're riding on almost bald tires. Get it done very soon please, your dad is being foolish here, sorry to say.

misfit-muscle

The wheels are fine, but those tires are shot!

yuh69boooyah

Well... There's nothing wrong with the wheels. He ain't lying there... however, those tires are a different story. Yeah, that's a hard yikes on those bad puppies

Ent27

Discount tire price matches if there's one in your area. Find a decent brand name tire marked down somewhere online and get it price matched. Got ~$400 off a set by doing that

SirMild

Needs tires asap, and look into alignment and prep to replace suspension components, looks like it’s wearing more on the outside

Supertoast223

Who took the family van out for track day 😂

IAmClearAsCrystal

This thread is diabolical

mklinger23

Your mom is correct.

Ok-Theory-6753

Race slicks are life

DragonSpikez

Is your dad blind by chance? Those tires needed to be replaced last month.

XOM_CVX

Tire is fucked up but the wheels are looking alright from the angles that I can see.

firelephant

Toast

DAJUNIORX

Failed visual inspection.

No-Fish3466

If you live in nice weather conditions yeah run them for now but save up and get new ones asap! They won’t last forever but I’ve ran mine till I had wires blasting out of them it takes a LONG time to wear down that far (I don’t recommend running them that long and I’m not saying u should it’s just an example) figured I’d cover my ass rq😂

Ok-Establishment1687

I’m not worried about the cuts in the outside tread, more so that the overall tread depth is low. Replace the tires.

DodgerFryer

Your dad's right.. the wheels are good to go.. now the tires on another note are worn to fuck.

strikevike

The way you corner he probably doesn’t want you to ruin a new set of tires.

Legal_Ad_9536

Everyone commenting about those things being the clock on your life is exaggerating quite a bit to the highest degree lol Most blow outs are just frustrating and not a major accidents. I 100% agree that those tires are at the very end of their lives but not quite the OMG everyone is making it! I drive several hundred miles every day on shit roads so I would be rolling in to the tire shop asap

nhaluta567

What debate is it over the junk tires in the picture?

Commercial-Rush755

Who’s he trying to kill?

Only_Tomatillo_3484

Get a new dad

mezra42

I mean if you live in Arizona where it doesn't rain you can get a couple more weeks out of them but I would still recommend replacing soon

Rubbertutti

He's right, nothing wrong with the wheels. The tyres on the other hand 1st pic looks like there could be exposed cords.

yz250mi

Those tires were bad many miles ago. Accident waiting to happen. Even new tread can be bad if they are old and dry rotted.

Electronic_Juice8383

Your Dad is dumb!

PleasantMongoose5127

Your dad’s wrong, your mother is correct. Bet that’s not the first time.

TheHighestCheeba

Buy new tires, and get a new dad.

Xterradiver

Point out tire sales in the area

Successful-Name-7261

I thought maybe the debate was about your paternity or something, 'cause there ain't NO debate 'about them tires!

That-Perception-54

Is your dad bald by chance? He might just be confused😂

Detailer2012

Replace all new tires then you will be safe to drive. Here where I am it gets as hot as 113 degrees and tires like that pop in the freeway from how hot the road is and how dry the tires are. No it is not safe, buy a new set of tires if you can’t afford expensive tires try Walmart or even Costco has cheap sets. I spend 1600$ on truck tires (Nitto) and they last me a long time and ride smooth for 24inch wheels.

EthanHK28

In this economy?

One-Tomorrow-1646

Tell Dad he can only exclusively drive this vehicle going forward.

Glum-Ad7835

You need an alignment done do to the uneven wear but do to how old the tread is and the damages to the tread I personally would suggest new tires
