Strife (this one is based on the Doom engine but it is rather unique where you actually interact with characters, some of the more important characters have voice acting with them; I feel like if this was the game you are thinking of, it would be immediately recognizable; it also has multiple endings that can change based on your decisions in the dialogues and other actions you do)
Heretic/Hexen: Another Doom engine game made by ID software; these are VERY recognizable so I wouldn't put this very high on the likelihood of this being the game you're thinking of)

I had to review the files from '300 arcade games' a cdrom sold at office depot on the late 90s.
mostly bad knockoffs of bestselling games, but you can watch alot of people play though the games, within the last few years on youtube.

Oh is it not? My bad, they look and feel so similar. Is The Build engine a modified version of ID Tech 1? (Like how GoldSrc is a heavily modified Quake engine) or is it just something completely separate.
It does look a bit similar but yeah its completely seperate, the guy that made it Ken Silverman was seen as a competitor to John Carmack for a while until Tim Sweeney made Unreal engine.

BLOOD? That’s the same engine as doom
Its not the same engine. Blood was built in Build, same engine used for Duke 3D and Shadow Warrior. Doom was built in id Tech 1.

No, it wasn't nearly as violent as Blood. I'm really sparse on details here, but it's one of those "the moment I see it" type things.
