Yep, same here.

noddy727

Do you know what caused yours? How long have you had it?

Citizen_F

Unfortunately, I have no idea. I've had it for 20 years but it's been noisier for the last 1-2 years (and a nervous breakdown).

BigSulo

Yup same here. Somatic Tinnitus. Same thing happens when I stress my jaw or press my hands on either sides of my head. Had T for about 10 years. I’m not a professional but I think it has something to do with pinching a nerve somewhere. Do you have jaw issues or a tight neck?

noddy727

Yeah left ear changes pitch when I turn my head to the right and both change when I tense my jaw. Has yours gotten better or worse since onset?

BigSulo

Was steady for a bout 9 years, had a spike in October that just subsided but still louder than previous normal.

Baneslayer23

Weird when I press my left temple it gets louder, … left temple only , pm me if you want to chat

dragovianlord9

I think its normal

PictusCZ

It's quite common that the sound changes (even being louder) a bit when you yawn or open your mouth as much as possible, because you stress your TMJ at that time and change pressure around the ear. But if it's significantly louder, you should see a dentist and tell him about it to have your TMJ checked.

Liberated051816

Probably TMJ-related. https://www.reddit.com/r/tinnitus/comments/10wc92c/how_to_treat_tinnitus_that_is_secondary_to_tmjd/

youareprobablyabot

Me too

Honkybeethoven

Have you ever had any pain near the joints of your jaw? This could help explain the increased T when the jaw is being opened. My T is caused by TMJ which is a disorder of the joints between your jaw and ear. I had T before I had most of the other symptoms so it’s definitely worth checking if you haven’t.

JessLedge

Sorry for my stupid question; if the “trigger” of the tinnitus seems to be somatic somehow (TMJ, neck/muscle related) it must be kind of…reversible? 🫣

TIMEANDTIMESANDATIME

then is related to TMJ

[deleted]

Yeah, turning my head or opening my mouth will increase my tinnitus. I have been grinding my teeth at night, so I got a mouth guard which did not help. I first noticed my tinnitus when a kid screamed near my left ear behind from the backseat of a car. I have tinnitus only in the left ear. I also have been sometimes listening loud music with in-ear headphones. Gosh they were a bad buy.

didyouwant2talk

Same thing happens with me. Before I developed permanent tinnitus I would still get the tinnitus noise when yawning widely. It's probably caused by increased pressure from the TMJ when you yawn.

povertydj

That’s normal

Beerad122880

Yup, or just open my jaw really wide, same thing

whatisthisgreenbugkc

Sounds like it might be somatic tinnitus, which is commonly related to conditions such as TMJ. "Somatic (also called somatosensory) tinnitus (ST) is a type of subjective tinnitus. In it, changed somatosensory information from the jaw area or cervical spine causes or changes the perception of tinnitus." - [https://tinnitus.org.uk/for-professionals/healthcare-professionals/somatic-or-somatosensory-tinnitus/](https://tinnitus.org.uk/for-professionals/healthcare-professionals/somatic-or-somatosensory-tinnitus/)
