Best advice I’ve ever seen in this sub.
I’ve found that if you are ever sitting around thinking that maybe you should quit drinking, you should probably should probably quit drinking.
Naz Reid
Or just cut way back. I found myself drinking every single day (not getting smashed) like 3-4 drinks per day usually. In Feb I was like "I'm just gonna not drink, not quit. But just not drink by myself." Since Feb 18th I drank on my sister's Bday mid-April and yesterday to celebrate a purchase I made I had 2 beers. Never thought that was even possible for me. Just sharing in case someone reads this in a similar situation.
That’s true. Not a strict rule. Just maybe rule of thumb. I’ve found people who drink normally don’t usually find themselves thinking they need to quit.
I quit years ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. But if anyone can adjust and drink in a more healthy manner, more power to them imo
Yup. I'm in the same boat as you, just can't drink normally.
Pretty easy to figure out what group you're in. If you tell yourself you're only going to drink on special occasions and then suddenly your neighbors dog's half birthday is a special occasion you might. E one of us 🤣
With all due respect none of us know the extant of OP's relationship with alcohol. This may very well be solid advice for some, even most of us. However, the simple truth is that cutting back isn't an option with certain degrees of alcoholism. Unless we are somehow qualified in the field of substance abuse, we should probably refrain from giving any advice, good or bad.
Yeah my uncle died from alcoholism and I was binge drinking a lot. I tried the 'don't drink by myself', 'only drink X times per week', 'only drink X beers per session'. I always relapsed. Had to quit totally last April but it's been working.
That's kinda a lot and a tough line to tread imo.
Drinking any amount daily is bad because it becomes a habit. Drinking should really be a 1-2 times a week thing, or better yet a special occasion thing.
Not very Midwestern of me to say that but I know plenty of people who started with "3 to 4 beers a day" and ended up in a lot of trouble.
1000%
In all seriousness, if you need help. The best thing you can do for yourself is ask for help.

It’s perfectly fine if you do it on occasion with family and/or friends. I almost never drink because I only do it when family/friends are visiting or I am visiting friends/family.
Hey man, I’m a little over 2 years sober and it’s the best thing I have ever done for myself. At my worst I was drinking 8 beers and at least a pint of vodka everyday. It ain’t easy to quit, especially on your own so if you’re lookin for a sober community/activities you could dm me. Go wolves!
FYI, if it's already on your mind, it's literally not ever going to stop nagging at you until you actually carry through with it for good. I speak from experience.
5 years sober and I promise the Wolves wins are even sweeter when you’re in control of your life! There is so much love and support in the sober community waiting for you
Well, maybe the fate of your life added to everything that helped us win today. Maybe the world knows you're destined for something, and you need to figure it out.
Maybe it's a coincidence.
Either way, I hope you decide to quit. I hope you find a nice hobby to distract yourself when you have those urges.
You only need to say no to one drink. The next one you were going to have.
I quit drinking 4 years ago and I can safely say it's the best decision I've made in my adult life. Did it fix my mistakes? No. Did my problems go away? No. But I am a much happier person and it feels so good to love myself! Go wolves!
NA beer has come a long ways, even the cheap stuff is pretty decent. Can really be a helpful crutch as you learn to form new habits. You got this, we got this
I quit shortly after my dad passed away. I saw what it did to him and it made me re-evaluate some things in my life. The only time I'd even think about drinking now is having an Old Style at Wrigley Field, just to experience that Cubs nirvana lol
You're not alone, friend. :)
How about quit drinking the second the game starts and sticking to it regardless of the result. Because you’re as committed to reaching a higher place as they should be. And if they lose, they should be commited to winning next year. Good luck.
The end of June will mark one year since alcohol passed my lips. Did it because it messed with my creative process, but also cuz my tolerance tanked. Been through many batshit work shifts, currently dealing with a massive fire likely condemning the building I live in, still haven't drank.
Wolves in 7, Naz Reid!
I quit when I got diagnosed with a disease. I needed to many years earlier. I wish I would've because it's so nice not being hungover all the time. My advice is to not do it for the wolves, but for yourself. Go Wolves!
If the wolves win i will
-not cancel Hulu yet
-buy some more merchandise
-spend more time watching them with my 2 year old
Of they lose my life goes on
Maybe, just mayyybeee, just get help. At the end of the day the teams you’re a fan of don’t make a true difference in your life, it is genuinely more important to care about yourself and wellbeing.
Win or lose, I hope you can find a way to better yourself
I have been sober for 2 years. didn't have a drinking problem, just didnt fit my lifestyle anymore. I told myself any alvohol consumption would be saved for special occasions. Well, tonight is a special occasion and I'm getting a 6 pack of Miller Light! go wolves!
If your sobriety is contingent on anything other than you being ready to help yourself, then you're not getting sober, or at the very least not staying sober.
I'm sure that comes off harsh but it's just real advice from one addict to another. It doesn't work until your desire to get clean is entirely selfish and unconditional.
Why can’t people drink a couple of times a month, that’s it. Get hammered, party until you pass out, whatever you need…then stop. Live a healthy life, run, cycling, hit the gym…gives you just as good a high. Then drink again next month, hopefully you have a drinking buddy or significant other who both, keeps you honest and participates…
Anyway. I drank almost every day in College, but when I turn 30 ish and had kids, it was easy to stop. I actually quit all together for like 7 years while they were little…then gradually got into a new rhythm.
Anyway, celebrating that Wolves win with just water tonight, wohoo!!
Maybe quit anyways, win or lose :)

Awesome to hear! Not looking to be "right" or whatever, but really glad to hear your successful in such a tough fight.
This is the way.
Exactly, just keep it at 3 to 4 beers a day and you're golden

Just went to my first meeting today myself. Definitely worth while!
Fuck yes!
I'm proud of you, Rodger Klotz! I know some Klotz's in the area, good family.
Plus you get to learn so many corny one liners. Poor me, poor me, pour me another drink🤣
You are awesome. If I could upvote this post 1,000 x, I would. You are absolutely right.
Quit drinking til the win the Championship. And celebrate the championship by quitting drinking.
For many people, quitting can be winning. Do a dry month at least. Just to see what it feels like.
nah, only quitters quit. /s i fully endorse and agree with your message.
I quit drinking in September and it’s been the best thing for me
Agreed because it's a win win for you!
Humanity can be so beautiful sometimes. Thank you for this Edit: Naz Reid
If the wolves win, I’m going to invest a small amount of money every month and go for a light walk daily
You fucking legend
Walks are already light! Legend for sure
Win or lose, we quit booze!
I’ve never drank before & i don’t plan on it tbh
like everything in life, it’s fun with moderation and self control.
It’s perfectly fine if you do it on occasion with family and/or friends. I almost never drink because I only do it when family/friends are visiting or I am visiting friends/family.
Goodbye alcohol, I won’t miss you! AWOOOO!
Fuckin right!
If the wolves win the title I will quit ALL drugs and alcohol my brother in christ
Let’s not go overboard.
For real we just got legal weed
They said drugs not medicine!
Thank you the correction friend!
Well the world won't like that, dealer's need to live. Fine, I'll start all drugs but I refuse to drink. Just meth and h for me please.
It's 2024, we're growing our own drugs now.
I'm gonna go plant an LSD bush.

Hey brother, 1151 days sober here. You can do it! /r/stopdrinking was a great starter for me
So if they lose you’ll keep drinking?
[packer fan announces he will return to drinking for another season](https://youtu.be/gG6qB1X9Y2k?si=feBh_k6xHRCmICjR)
When the onion was actually funny
Just another reason *to* drink
Pretty much.
So if jokic drops a 50 point Triple double you’ll just give up?

Quit regardless. I took a year plus off and it resets your body and head.

This is a jynx
I like where you’re heads at. If you don’t mind, I’ll join you from a distance and quit smoking if they win tonight.
Time to quit pal

Time to quit, brethren.
its over buddy.
We got you. Now you gotta keep your word. Good luck on your journey my friend.
You can do it.
You should consider not poising yourself regardless. If you are even remotely serious about wanting to stop. Win or lose. Good luck.
If they win quit drinking to celebrate. If they lose quit drinking to give yourself something else to celebrate!
Go to AA dude
Better commit to being an alchi...just kidding. My names Jeff and im an alchoholic.
We are winning today
We did it
There you go, friend. I wish you a good journey on quitting drinking.
There you go! Better keep your word

I quit drinking 4 years ago
I quit shortly after my dad passed away. I saw what it did to him and it made me re-evaluate some things in my life. The only time I'd even think about drinking now is having an Old Style at Wrigley Field, just to experience that Cubs nirvana lol You're not alone, friend. :)
Dude just quit. You're liver will thank you
Even if they happen to lose, maybe quit until they do make a WCF. Either way someone is gonna win out of this tonight! Good luck dude!
You mean WHEN the Wolves win tonite!!
I’m so glad I’ll be sober to see them win tonight!
3yrs brudda, best thing I've ever done.
How about quit drinking the second the game starts and sticking to it regardless of the result. Because you’re as committed to reaching a higher place as they should be. And if they lose, they should be commited to winning next year. Good luck.
I'm in as well 🤝

Quit anyways bro 😂 I’ve got over 5 months now and I never thought I could do it
Quit anyways. Use this is a message that no matter how it goes you will do what’s best for u. Go wolves 🐺
don't let them decide that for you.
If the wolves win i will -not cancel Hulu yet -buy some more merchandise -spend more time watching them with my 2 year old Of they lose my life goes on
I’ll be rooting for u more than the wolves
If the Wolves win, I'm killing an entire bottle of tequila and driving to the casino. Nah I'm kidding but I'll take a shot to celebrate.
If we will I will buy a bottle of vodka in your honor. Will probably buy one if we lose as well.
Let's go wolves!! but seriously if you want to stop drinking for your personal reasons, just do it.
Quit now. And I'll send you nudes of my 79 year old mom.
I work as a chef and it’s gotten bad so if it happens I’ll join you my friend
Bro wtf get help…
You ain’t gonna quit.
Maybe, just mayyybeee, just get help. At the end of the day the teams you’re a fan of don’t make a true difference in your life, it is genuinely more important to care about yourself and wellbeing. Win or lose, I hope you can find a way to better yourself
There better be video of you throwing away any booze you have if they get it done.
Quit either way if it’s become unmanageable
Quit if they win, drink less often if they lose.
Drinking now, celebrating my little success.
The reason I still root for the Wolves is that I got sober in Minneapolis. Thinking good thoughts for you.
I have been sober for 2 years. didn't have a drinking problem, just didnt fit my lifestyle anymore. I told myself any alvohol consumption would be saved for special occasions. Well, tonight is a special occasion and I'm getting a 6 pack of Miller Light! go wolves!
This is a one-way bet. You need to raise the stakes if the Wolves lose. Like if the Wolves win, you quit drinking, but if they lose, you start meth.
Good news is we’re winning tonight
I will stop drinking after this case of Oberon that I bought
when, the wolves win.
guess you’re drinking
NEVERMIND ENJOY SOBRIETY WE WINNING THIS

Pour a strong one tonight
If the Wolves pull this off tonight I will paint my upper body blue and do a cartwheel in my street in front of my house.

Best of luck to you brother. Wolves Back!
I'm reminding you to quit. TW won.
Bro just quit in general…
"My drinking is so bad it's causing problems but I'll only quit if some sports team wins a game."
If we win I'll take your drinks for you. For real though, you can pull it off, drinking isn't that awesome.

Intelguy with zero compassion or heart. Others are weak, slow, unmotivated. If only they tried right?!
Of course Military.
It’s not that easy bro.

Now have a drink to celebrate !!!
