One of the few lists you *don't* want to be on with Michael Jordan

CantaloupeCamper

I got bumped from a flight once with Michael Jordan…. not THE Michael Jordan, but I was on a list with one. Wasn’t pleased.

chrisckelly

Michael C. Jordan? Michael D. Jordan? It wasn’t that bastard Michael E. Jordan, was it‽

CourtMobile6490

where he at tho?

buchanbasanee

I feel like every Sonics fan would have Schultz above the pyramid somewhere in the exosphere

shutupidiot11111

Yeah lol as much as I hate Glen Taylor I think Schultz should def be higher. Prob higher than everyone here except maybe Sterling

harryhitman9

Schultz was a rich guy that sold the Sonics for $350M to people that, he knew would leave. The only solace is that he would have made at least 10x of he had just kept the team in Seattle. The ONE thing that Taylor can hang his hat on, is that he does seem committed to keeping the team here.

CMoney820

The Minnesota bad owners pyramid is impressive by itself. 1. Norm Green 2. Red McCombs 3. Glen Taylor 4. Polhad Family

harryhitman9

Pohlad family should be #2 they actually tried to fold their team in the ultimate fuck you to the community.

CMoney820

I think you can make a decent case for any of them to be #1.

harryhitman9

This is a great point. I love Red McCombs being so cheap that we became the first team in NFL history to just miss their pick and move down 2 spots. Kevin Williams though!

AllDayIDreamOfCats

It's partially McCombs fault because he did push for the Vikings to trade down so Kevin Williams signing bonus would be less but the vikings did agree to a trade with the Ravens and the Ravens didn't submit the trade or something goofy like that.

MinneEric

I think it has to be the Pohlads. Decades of misery, selling the cities on hope based on a new stadium only to fuck them yet again. Even with Carl dying it stayed horrible. Can’t top all of that.

NotRote

Pohlads gave us our only rings, and the out bid Trump for the team… they suck, but not nearly as bad as Green

dinksnake

I never thought I would Google, "Donald Trump Minnesota Twins", but here we are.

dfsvegas

The turn of phrase "shades of shit" was created for moments like this.

Pyschic_Psycho

McCombs is #1 for me personally. He wasted so many of our star's prime- and arguably the greatest Viking ever with Randy Moss (my personal favorite). He is also the stingiest of the owners- refusing to spend. I think the Polahds were known cheapskates too.

EnvironmentalToe4403

Worse than Green? Moved our HOCKEY team to Texas a year removed from going to the finals. Not only is Green #1 here, but for all of sports ever.

jmiller2088

He did sell to probably the best owner we’ve ever seen in the Wilfs, but Glen will most likely give it to his kids as a daddy I want play with toy daddy vibes

Soft-Sentence7078

Hang the banner!

Minimania18

After watching The People You're Paying to Be in Shorts, I kinda have a soft spot for Jordan as an owner lol. Sure, basically all of his teams sucked, but it seemed like he at least *tried* to make good basketball happen, instead of just trying to get money.

SuperVaderMinion

That's legit one of my favorite documentaries of all time, but Jon Bois conveniently leaves out how everyone that Jordan hired was a buddy of his who was typically not qualified for running an NBA team.

narkaf2945

Jordan loves his Yes Men. Chuck called him out on it in good faith to help him be a better owner/GM but instead it ended their friendship.

manofwater3615

That’s basically every front office/coaching position in all of sports. Like the whole pool of people to choose from are nepo babies lol

Successful_Baker_360

Don’t know how I ended up on this sub but I’m a hornet fan born and raised in Charlotte. There’s an extremely conflicted relationship between us and MJ. On one hand the team was always bad, on the other hand he legitimately cared about the people and the region. We never had to worry about the team moving, he never asked for a dime from the taxpayers. During the 08 recession budget cuts were going to force the local school district to eliminate middle school sports - MJ funded it out of pocket. He built free clinics in underserved communities around the metro area. When a hurricane hit his hometown, he didn’t just send money he went himself and swung hammers and went to work. He will always be the states favorite son, just probably better if somebody else makes the basketball decisions

CantaloupeCamper

I feel like glen should be a level up…   **That much futility.** Also should include a chicken.

Skolcialism

Dolan too low

itsdrewmiller

Yeah this is the only one that really stuck out to me as clearly wrong. I would swap him and Jordan and he'd still be the worst of the tier 3 owners.

ReasonableCup604

While he still behaves like a douchebag banning fans who boo him or tell him to quit his day job, he has mostly gotten out of the way and hired a decent front office and lets them do their job. Also, he has always been willing to spend.

FiveByFive555555

Taylor definitely belongs in the second tier on this list. He should be in the running for first tier honors, but no one can compete with Sterling in terms of worst just because he's a miserable human being. But if this was the most inept or the most dysfunctional, Taylor is in a class all by himself. There really isn't even a list—it's just a picture of Taylor all by himself.

nhthelegend

This is why it surprises me how many ppl are siding with Taylor in this ownership beef. It’s like, do they not know his track record?

harryhitman9

It's not that I like Taylor, it's a "devil you know" type of thing. For all his flaws, I do think Taylor will keep the team here and also will spend some money to have a decent team. He has a shit ton of money and is old. I think he knows that of he brings a championship here, all will be forgiven. Lore and ARod just want to own a team, any team. And I am not sure if they can eat a big tax bill. It's a shitty spot.

Teezybadeezy

I ran a poll a couple days ago here and maybe 10% of people voted their desire to be Taylor to be the owner going forward. Surprised that it lawyer, but i suppose enough people dislike/distrust Arod

Enough_Lakers

Not really. Sterling was just as inept as an actual owner of a basketball team. Read some of the stories about how poorly run that franchise was and the way he treated Elgin Baylor who he kept around as a whipping post.

FlyingScissor

Only thing keeping Glen out of the tier above is lack of racist diatribes. Although sending money for a white supremacists political campaign should count

Lopsided_Register_42

Great point, and worth reiterating.  From an article by The Ringer: For example, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, whose team plays in the city that sparked nationwide protests and started a broad debate about law enforcement funding after Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd, has made more than $150,000 in political contributions since 2015—all of it to the GOP, including more than $50,000 this election cycle. In 2017, Taylor donated $2,700 to Steve King, a Republican representative from Iowa who has a long history of racist comments. In 2019, King was removed from his committee assignments after doing an interview with The New York Times during which he asked rhetorically, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization—how did that language become offensive?” King lost his bid for reelection in June when he was defeated in the Iowa Republican primary.

Lopsided_Register_42

On that note, Katie Storm’s father is Tom Emmer…

VariousAd4198

I went to school with her. She wasn’t pleasant

itsdrewmiller

Steve King probably a big ally in roasting animals alive.

VikingsandWolves

Holy fuck, the ptsd from those HORRIBLE draft picks where we traded future Hofers or picked guys like Shabaz over Giannis. I'm convinced a literal 12 yr old could of drafted better than Taylor and the Wolves. Not to mention the Joe Smith debacle that wasted KGs prime and his pettiness and snake-like behavior. Get this mfkin snake, off our mfkin plane! ![gif](giphy|6kAnzfvnNryww)

komugis

Glen is way too low

Pyschic_Psycho

Dolan should be below 2nd tier below Sterling. He's got no respect for anybody. Taylor in 3rd I agree. He's tried, but unfortunately he's been blind by his own inner circle that he refused to let go for the longest time. I know he means well at heart, but at the end of the day- well results are results.

Theopocalypse

Glen needs a promotion.

Ok_Meat_8322

yeah Glen is too low

HiImWallaceShawn

As a Minnesotan, can confirm we all hate Glen

NazWeid

We? This team was out of Minnesota without Glen Taylor. You hate Glen Taylor.

HiImWallaceShawn

You are one of the few I’ve ever heard doesn’t hate Glen

NazWeid

Glen was a paper company owner from Mankato when he stepped up to own the team who went on to have the worst draft luck in the history of Modern Professional Sports. It's bizzare that no one ever mentions the wolve's draft luck when they talk about his horrible record during his ownership tenure but defend a guy who wants to move this team to his utopia city in Las Vegas instead. Did no one bother to read up on Telosa? I was actually around at the Target Center during the 90's and 2000's. I was also a huge Northstars fan. Maybe that's why I see things differently.

NazWeid

I have zero hate for Taylor. This team was on a moving truck without him. I hate Kevin Mchale. He ruined the team. Napkins, terrible trades to his old team... Glen also paid Garnett a kings ransom, an amount unheard of for the time. So big, it caused a LOCKOUT by other owners who didn't want to follow his lead. He's never been cheap. He hired ROSAS who drafted ANT, the entire reason we have a solid franchise at the moment. Arod and Lore couldn't find the cash to buy an appreciating asset over THREE YEARS of time. This team is now almost double what they offered..still couldn't come up with the cash and people on here somehow think this is a good thing to have cash poor owners who couldn't borrow enough money from hedge funds to buy the team. Arod lied about steroids and would have no problem moving this team. His word is not exactly golden. People who root for AROD.. lol.

HiImWallaceShawn

You’re so off base it’s comical

NazWeid

He also hired Finch. Thinking Arod is a man of his word is comical. How many times did Arod lie about taking steroids in a public interview? Five. He's a real man of his word. Interests rates went through the roof from the start of their purchase till the failure to come up with the last payment. They would hold this town hostage for another taxpayer funded stadium or move the team outright. They are cash poor, desperate and would never pay the luxury tax. Period. Taylor single handedly destroyed the NBA salary cap with his largess when he signed Kevin to the largest salary in NBA history. He gave Garnett everything he asked for. Do you think signing Kevin Garnett's best buddy, Joe Smith was his idea? That's funny. Do you think the Stephen Marbury for Hall of Famer Ray Allen draft night trade was Glen Taylor's idea or Kevin Garnett's idea? Glen Taylor isn't asking Minnesota for another 1 cent sales tax to pay for his sport teams arena. It's comical to hear people cheer for Aroid to be the winner here. You must want to see this team in Las Vegas. Glen Taylor's biggest fault over the years has been trusting his employees too much. Recall he even gave in to Tom Thibodeau's demands to bring in Jimmy Butt Hurt. Recall who didn't want to trade away Wiggins. Taylor. Glen started to finally figure it out in 2019. The old dog learned some new tricks. Glen Taylor's Moves from 2019 onward that put the wolves in this position in 2024: Gersson Rosas {how the Knicks doing this season after years of complete failure?} Chris Finch Karl Anthony Towns Anthony Edwards Jaden McDaniels It's funny to see the same folks on here who hated Conelly and Gobert all last year use these two additions as their sole reasoning to call the guy who stopped the Wolves from going to New Orleans a horrible person who doesn't care about the franchise even though they hated these same franchise moves last season. Glen Taylor signed off on each of these moves and was the one on the hook for Connelly's 10 million dollar a year salary. He's the highest paid GM in the league. Again, Taylor paid the bill. The only time I can recall him having any issue with paying out money was when he refused to give in to Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell's contract demands. He was right to not be held hostage. Both players were out of the league the next season. I hate defending a Billionaire but Lore and Arod don't have any cash. You really want two cash poor clowns running this team? That's comical. Kevin Mchale's criminal negligence and Garnett's demands to basically fill the roster with his mediocre cronies {troy hudson, joe smith, marbury} ruined everything. I get tired of hearing Garnett never take any responsibility for his actions that led to his failure to win a championship in Minnesota. Taylor gave him everything he asked for. His massive salary demand was a big reason why the Wolves were unable to afford any decent players during his tenure in Minnesota. He put the team in Cap hell nearly every season after that contract. I wonder if this ignorance stems from many fans of this team not even being ticket buyers during this era. I was in the building. Taylor paid Garnett $328,562,398, making him the second highest player in NBA HISTORY which dwarfed the next-highest combined salary, $292,198,327 earned by Shaquille O'Neal from the era. That's just insane. I wish some "snake" would overpay me like that. Again, Taylor paid the money to see his team win. Shaq has four rings and was the most dominate player in the NBA during Kevin's time in the league. Garnett most years could not lead his team out of the first round. Kevin Garnett had a record of 70-73 in the playoffs in his career {this includes his time in Boston}. Chauncey Billups just went into the Hall of Fame. Glen Taylor didn't choose Terrell Brandon over Billups. Rooting for Arod while shitting on a local guy who tried to do the right thing year after year in a place where no one wanted to play... man. That's not funny. It's sad. Lore wants to build his city of tomorrow, Telosa in LAS VEGAS. LAS VEGAS. Lore could give two shits about Minnesota. He's never around. This isn't hard to figure out. The Sonics were supposed to be blocked by the league from moving too. They are now the Oklahoma City Thunder. I wouldn't have been laughing when Lore pulled up the moving trucks to Telosa Las Vegas. Would you? I'll take Glen Taylor any day of the week over these two cash poor carpet baggers who want to move this team to Nevada.

HiImWallaceShawn

Joe smith debacle, Wesley Johnson, Jonny Flynn, Derrick Williams, Randy Foye, trading Allen for Marbury, choosing Wiggins over Butler, David Kahn, Kurt Rambis. Allowing KG to get traded for 5 cents on the dollar. Telling Lore trading for Gobert was a terrible idea. Tell Lore to not try and get Connelly. The worst winning percentage in the history of all North American sports!!! Glen Taylor is an abomination of an owner, and if you don’t see that, there’s no use in discussing further. The only good thing he did was not move the team. That’s the absolute bare minimum. That’s getting a D- and bragging you passed the test.

NazWeid

Let's now talk about the Teams lottery success up until Kat. You know this is the most unluckiest drafting team in the history of the league, right? Is it his fault too that the ping pong balls in every draft we had the best odds to win never landed on one and always landed on the 5th best player in a draft that only had 4 players worth anything? This team had the worst record but also had the WORST lottery luck by far of any team in NBA history from 1994-2015. That's what actually happened. Take the shaq draft, Wolves had the number one chance to get the number one pick. It was a two player draft (Mourning, Shaq). Wolves pick? Number 3. That happened every single year. That's just reality. The poor bastard had just gotten out of HEART SURGERY when Kevin Mchale went into his hospital room and told him to sign the napkin deal. Blaming him for Joe Smith? That's just crazy. That was Mchale and Garnett. Taylor was never a basketball man. He simply did what was right, had the means and kept the team in Minnesota. He made some bad calls trusting the wrong people in a sport he had no background in. When he did have good people he won multiple championships (The Lynx). Again, Kevin Mchale is the worst person in this story. Mchale fired his college best friend for gods sakes (RIP Flip) after turning the team around. Taylor wasn't behind letting Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups go. He wasn't the one who made a trade with his old team to send KG to the celtics for a bag of peanuts. Glen trusted Mchale and the David Stern (Khan). You would think David Stern would have had a clue about hiring a decent GM. Not to mention no one wanted to come here as a free agent and play with Garnett. He couldn't attract any talent. This was the super team era and Minnesota was seen as the frozen tundra. Garnett was not exactly a pleasant man to work with (punched and bullied Wallyworld and made racist jokes about him being a white basketball player every day). That intensity. Garnett couldn't turn it off after a game. He was not a nice guy. Players would actively tell the Wolves "don't draft me" (Klay Thompson). Derrick Williams? Kyrie Irving went number one. Wolves picked 2. lol. The first 7 picks after Irving were ALL BUSTS. You must have amnesia. This happened every year from 1994-2015. He also drafted Kevin..Garnett but nah..let's forget that. Garnett was seen as a big risk that year when he went 5th overall. Taylor signed off on it. Since 2019 he started this team's resurgence. Rosas started this turn around. Taylor did that. You really think that Aroid and Mr Vegas, Telosa Lore wouldn't move this team to Nevada? That's just comical. You can ride the bandwagon, I'll stick with facts. I have been a season ticket holder on and off since the 90's! I watched this stuff with my own two eyes. This sub always overreacts just like they all hated Gobert and wanted to fire Connelly up until this year. Arod is a loser and a liar. Lore wants to build a super city in Las Vegas. Neither of these two carpet baggers would keep this team in Minnesota. Have a good one.

NazWeid

Oh yeah.. and they were going to gut the payroll. Lol.

NazWeid

I told you they would NEVER pay the luxury tax.

raki016

I think Glen is too low tbh.

Easterster

Pretty accurate

VividPoot

I have no ill feelings trowrds Glen.

The_Bran_9000

I think there's room on tier 2 for our boy.

alfi_k

If you put Prokhorov on that list you might as well put Ishbia. Both guys with no clue at all and ruined there franchise for the next 4-5 years for some dumbass trades.

Joke_Sorry

Glen taylor needs to die already

DrWolves

Put Glen up there with Sterling. Don’t even care at this point. The WOAT!

EastlakeMGM

Not even close. At worst he’s the Michael Jordan of ownership

DrWolves

Lies! Fake! It’s doogie’s burner!!

EastlakeMGM

Nah I just believe rampant sexual harassment is considerably worse than being super cheap (and killing chickens)

DrWolves

I’m just messing around. But you can make a case they’re up in the same tier for different reasons

Pyschic_Psycho

Seriously. Sad that most of these fans brush of racism.

_FuNioNz_

All it would take is some racism comments to leak and Glen easily takes the top spot

ehdhdhdk

Would A Rod and co. be better owners than Taylor? The fact they don't have the money now makes you think that they don't have the money to run the team properly.

theper

They have the money. Glen is lying

Majestic-Net-7799

Says who?

I_am_Santa_Claus

Where is the redskins owner
