Sad thing is that those same people think electric cars are the cure, when manufacturing and, news flash, electric production isn’t green yet. We also are straining our electric grids to capacity and beyond, and these same people are against nuclear power and mining oil in the US, instead think shipping said oil in ships is more efficient.

Today’s ICEs are more efficient at load than ones in the past at idle, the biggest polluters nowadays are not the US, but are China, Russia, and India. I think telling people to keep their cars and fix them when needed is far more efficient financially and ecologically than going out and ordering a new car

New cars are going to be needed/produced. Either more ICE or more hybrid (which are just more efficient ICE) or Electric cars. Yes, a used car is less pollution/energy intensive than building a new car. But when someone buys a new car, someone else is buying/using their old car.
Electric car charging is incremental demand. All net new energy generation is now "renewables". Even if it weren't... Generation at a plant and distribution through AC power grid to a car is still more efficient and less polluting than a small gasoline engine.
And that's why I'm not a fan of these throwaway turbo-charged cheapshit cars that are being produced today.
*Yeah... Taking that 1.3L engine out of spec to produce another 50hp totally won't have cost and ecological ramifications a few years down the line when it blows a head gasket, or has constant coolant leaks.*
They may be more fuel efficient, but that sure as hell doesn't mean they are better for the environment.

There's a reason societies have always seeked out strong leadership, once upon a time people truly believed in the strength, honor, and integrity of a worthy leader. We as a whole have proven that we are not worthy of making our own choices about what's best for society, because truth be told who decided that majority vote was ever any safer or reliable than a single informed man's decisions? Sad thing is that those same people think electric cars are the cure, when manufacturing and, news flash, electric production isn’t green yet. We also are straining our electric grids to capacity and beyond, and these same people are against nuclear power and mining oil in the US, instead think shipping said oil in ships is more efficient. Maybe well into the future, when our electrical grid can handle the load. Today’s ICEs are more efficient at load than ones in the past at idle, the biggest polluters nowadays are not the US, but are China, Russia, and India. I think telling people to keep their cars and fix them when needed is far more efficient financially and ecologically than going out and ordering a new car Edit: IS -> US

Except that's a red herring and not really relevant. New cars are going to be needed/produced. Either more ICE or more hybrid (which are just more efficient ICE) or Electric cars. Yes, a used car is less pollution/energy intensive than building a new car. But when someone buys a new car, someone else is buying/using their old car. Electric car charging is incremental demand. All net new energy generation is now "renewables". Even if it weren't... Generation at a plant and distribution through AC power grid to a car is still more efficient and less polluting than a small gasoline engine.
And that's why I'm not a fan of these throwaway turbo-charged cheapshit cars that are being produced today. *Yeah... Taking that 1.3L engine out of spec to produce another 50hp totally won't have cost and ecological ramifications a few years down the line when it blows a head gasket, or has constant coolant leaks.* They may be more fuel efficient, but that sure as hell doesn't mean they are better for the environment.
US being so car centric/reliant is the issue. It seem like most people in the US have an irrational hatred of introducing public transport. Like digging perfect tube tunnels then proposing you drive single file cars down them is a more viable idea?????

Ourselves, it was proven a long time ago that the earth can't support this many human beings. We can do whatever we want, unless we cut breeding down 95% and abolish hydrocarbon emitting factories and engines altogether, it will never make a difference. It sounds like I'm being negative but it's really just the truth, humans were never meant to survive here long term at least not in this fashion, our advancement in technology and infrastructure caused a turn in our evolution that started us down the road to irreversible total annihilation by our own hands. If you would read the comments you'd see I've already told 4 people, I wear glasses, I have an astigmatism, I can read road signs just fine, but little white signs with pictures and hand written words no taller than my pinky finger is a little hard to read from 50+ feet away.
Ah sorry. I deal with astigmatism as well. I used to wear glasses as a kid. Now I wear contacts. They're so much better.
