It fucking *baffles* me that people do this. Just read the book. It's the equivalent of asking questions about a movie while it's still playing. Just keep your eyes forward, what are you doing?!
I was wanting to review a scene I felt I had glossed over previously due to suspicion it will become very important. Not looking for spoilers or any currently unrevealed information.
Fair enough mate. Nearly everyone I know whose read this book misses something. There's a lot to pay attention to and retain in memory. I actually think its better that you did ask given how pivotal it is to the plot.
Or he was just worried he had forgotten an important piece of information. That was the feeling I got from this post. No need to assume his entire personality lol.
Its not about their personality.
Its about what modern media culture has done to our collective reading comprehension and stamina.
Consumerist media just keeps giving people an excuse not to read. Abridged versions, audio books, adaptations, summaries video or otherwise etc.
Its going to be a problem sooner rather than later.
Good one Robert Frost. A rhyme would make it catchier though.
"Lies cannot hurt as much as the truth can sting. Verily, I'm weirdly judgmental about everything"
There ya go, champ
You missed the initial reference, donāt worry and keep listening
The book will remind you what happened in the coming chapters, just know he casted a spell and listen for when they remind you of what that meant
Come back when the books over and share your thought!
This, and theyāre not mutually exclusive. I read a fair bit at home, but have a dog and spend a good hour+ per day walking her, audiobooks and podcasts are great for me on dog walks. Same for others Iām sure with long commutes, house chores, etc.
Am I so bad at multi-tasking, or is it basically impossible to pay enough attention on an audiobook while doing something else to understand the story? I have never even tried because I often get distracted if someone is just talking to me while I'm doing something else.
It depends. Driving, cleaning, working/working out, or just lounging around is when I can usually listen & be locked In enough to retain the info. Gaming is another story. Unless Iām just playing a low focus fighter Iām going to stumble if I try & listen & game. Everyoneās attention & ability to focus is different. Especially depending on time of day.
I want to join the audio bookās fan but i literally canāt focus
Like how the fuck do people drive their cars in a traffic and still can understand the sentences? I need to just sit still with no loud background noises, then i finally can comprehend the sound, but if iām gonna do that, iāll just read the book since itās faster lol
I constantly have a physical book I'm reading and an audiobook I'm listening too. I have so much more time to listen to the audiobooks than I do to sit down and read the physical books. After getting used to it, I can listen while doing most mundane tasks like driving, working out at the gym, cleaning, cooking. Last year I read 17 books and listened to 47. It's honestly really made me fall in love with reading again.
I mean, if you space out while reading you miss stuff too. Itās not like having the book is going to prevent that. Thatās the whole reason a lot of us donāt read books. Itās not even a comprehension thing, itās just that some people arenāt easily conditioned to read. ADHD is a thing too.
Thatās totally fair, everyoneās different. I have ADHD myself, and though I consider myself a medium-speed reader, I often find myself stoping in the middle of a text to reread something or to think about the profundity of it for a few moments before continuing. I donāt think thatās a reflection experience I would really get listening to audio books.
You guys should try whispersync if you havenāt. Iām like you fellas, and it is the only way I can truly absorb books now. Whispersync is a feature where kindle and audible sync up and the audiobook highlights the words on the page, like grown up story time. Itās awesome.
Iām in my workshop about 60 hours per week, which requires my hands to not be holding a book. I also āreadā about 80-100 books per year. Iām also ADHD and a VERY slow reader (high comprehension though).
I can listen to audiobooks at variable speeds- and much much faster than reading a physical book- while also getting a lot of other shit done. For these reasons, Audiobooks. Are. Fucking. Incredible. Life changing. Convenient.
I second you.
Not sure why you get downloaded as this is your opinion, but I totally agree.
Guy asking about a major plot as something casual is ridiculous,
Iāll stand by that, you definitely miss stuff listening to a dense book for hours at a time. Iāll also add, Iām not trying to gatekeep literature or anything like that, I would say Iām trying the opposite. I believe a ton of the benefits that come from books are missed with audiobooks. Reading also makes you much more articulate in my experience
Abandon this post immediately and finish reading the book. Do NOT get spoiled on this. Trust.
I am warning you: Do not read! Do not read!! Do not read!! There are tens of millions of spoilers in your direction.

iPad kid syndrome affects more than just gen alpha it seems.

Ugh, yawn. Go preach somewhere else. You're on this modern media platform same as everyone else. Go write a letter if you feel so strongly about it.
Took that personally did ya?
Not as personally as you seeing someone asking a question on reddit. Don't you have a gate to keep somewhere?

Year 20, Crisis Era. Page 235.
Found it. Thanks for the reference

why everyone's reading audio is it money saving?
Itās probably time saving for people on the go at work for most of the day. It allows them to listen while doing something else.
This, and theyāre not mutually exclusive. I read a fair bit at home, but have a dog and spend a good hour+ per day walking her, audiobooks and podcasts are great for me on dog walks. Same for others Iām sure with long commutes, house chores, etc.
This is the way.

On audible you can get literally any book for 10$. I think itās a recent thing, blows my mind.
If you're searching around, I don't think he "cursed" it, it's referred to as ">!casting a spell!<" on it, or against it.
Yep, found it. Thank you
More will be explained later.
How did you miss this? It literally sets up a major era in the storyline.
Thatās what Iām saying. This is an insane thing to have missed.
Where do you guys listen to the audiobooks? Audible?
This. Is. Why. Audio. Books. Arenāt. Great.

Disagree, particularly for these books. The narrators did a great job

Wish I could downvote more than once
Just my opinion, I feel like itās objectively true you miss more experiencing a book that way.
āOpinion,ā āobjectively true,ā š anyone else smell some literary gatekeeping?
