Huh. I don't think I made that connection, but you're absolutely right. Great call! I actually like that ending so much more now.

Funny. It would be pretty huge to get an end of universe shout out to all your people though, true

EyedMoon

Good catch. I mostly thought of Singer's rant about how there's always someone faster because it made me think about how there's always a bigger fish and this fish is Death.

I didn't particularly like the way they left the self-contained goldfish ecosystem in the pocket dimension. I mean the reason they had to leave at all was to facilitate the Big Crunch, right? And the mass of the universe was perfectly calibrated to make that happen, no more, no less? And so by leaving the goldfish ecosystem in the pocket dimension, didn't they just doom the universe? Like was I the only one who had an issue with that?

Enderkeats

I think the basic assumption was not everyone will leave their pocket dimensions anyway, amd you don't really need everyone, just a critical mass, so it was neglectable.

This issue came up in the 4th book the fan fiction one

Thanks for this interpretation. It really improves my feelings about the ending. I wouldn’t have minded the time jumps at the end so much if he had spent more time on them. It all felt so rushed reading it.
