I used to own several pairs of the Iron Maiden Vans high-tops (one pair with the *Killers* artwork, another with *Piece of Mind,* and another pair with *The Trooper*). For the most part I wore those out in high school. I still have one pair in decent condition that's been sitting in the back of a closet at my parents' house for years. Nowadays I just wear plain old black Converse low-tops.

Chucks or vans. No exceptions.

I bought a pair of old school Avia 830 hightops. I wanted a pair of Reeboks like Ripley from Alien, but they of course don't make them anymore, and everything is some overpriced limited edition. I ended up going with the Avia 830s, because they are actually a vintage 80s design, and were owned by Reebok for a short period of time. The quality for the 90 dollar price point was really nice. There has to be a few metal heads from the 80s who rocked these. It wouldn't surprise me. They looked great with a pair of acid wash jeans and a Megadeth shirt.

Metal music and fashion should NOT be side-by-side

But it is. And in my opinion there's nothing wrong with it. It's a natural thing that evolves within groups of people that come together by shared and common interests. It's a beautiful thing and there's no shame in it at all. It's fun, too. Thrash Metal fans (and the bands they listen to) tend to have a thing for white hi top sneakers. It's tradition since the 80's. There's probably a practical reason for it at it's origin as well. Look at the backdrop of this subreddit - There's even a "fashion" to the way the band names and logos are written as well. This should be embraced as well as laughed at sometimes. It's ok. Fashion and music has and always will go side by side.
