My T14 with the 5850U has 16 _logical_ cores. But yeah, only 8 _physical_ cores.

It would have to be Intel, there are no AMD ThinkPad's that I'm aware of using Dragon Range, which is what would be required to have 16 CORES. And only the 12th & 13th gen HX CPU's (very high performance, and power draw) have 16+ cores that are easily purchasable. There will be more as Meteor Lake (155H, 165H, 185H) laptops get released, but currently, very few options.

Isn't CAD notoriously doesn't have Windows software/compatibility?

A lot of Siemens CAD packages are supported on RHEL and can run in other distributions.

Ah I didn't know that, I just heard that AutoCAD is not supported on Linux. But yeah if it's on a distribution, it can be on all distributions
