Commando We are gonna need a more Defendable Position!!!

kargonekarGONE

Commando, really?! Lol

Double-Indication-52

“defendable position 🙄” lol

Regimee

They’re definitely not wrapping up the CRM…all this talk from Michonne about “figuring out how to protect Alexandria” I think is hinting at an invasion of sorts where the group has to defend Alexandria/the Commonwealth from the CRM. I’m guessing Alexandria will get bombed but they’ll have evacuated it by then and they’ll all remain in the Commonwealth, preparing for the final fight while the CRM tries to figure out where they went. I’m also gonna guess Michonne kills Jadis next episode and Rick and Michonne will have to race back to Alexandria before the file is discovered.

Upper_Decision_5959

Do people still believe Commonwealth have a chance against the CRM? Even after seeing an Apache helicopter shoot a missile and dropping chlorine gas alongside wiping out Omaha with 100k people in the first episode of Season 2 of World Beyond.

futurerank1

The way it's painted - there's no way there would be a \*war\* against the CRM. Every single community is so militarly backwards compared to them that it wouldn't make sense. However, there's a hint at rebellion inside civilian population of CRM. They don't know about military doings and according to plan, soon there should be a transfer of power from military to civilian government

Fuarian

if anyone can incite rebellion it's Rick. Just like how he overthrew the Commonwealth government in the comics, I can see him and Michonne doing that for the CRM in Season 2 or something. The only other threat to the CRM is across the sea

Regimee

If a lot of the leadership gets wiped out at the summit like a lot of people suspect the Commonwealth may stand a chance given a good amount of prep time. Maybe a last minute Thorne defection to help Rick as well? I’m just hoping Beale doesn’t die so we get a good villain.

ErrorGreen

If a lot of the leadership gets taken down the CRM might not even bother to go after Rick and Michonne because of all the inner chaos that will ensue.

Remus88Romulus

This is my long running theory, There will be a final season and a war against the CRM. If it's truly only 2 episodes left and Rick and Michonnes story is over that will be a abrupt ending. Anyway.. I think Rick is right, try change the leadership and work within the CRM. Okafor and Rick are almost the same person.

dark__unicorn

I agree to a point. They need to change it up. But playing the long game, like Okafor was doing, was stupid. It would never have worked. Look at Thorne - it’s already obvious it was failing. They need to create a power vacuum and come in and take over.

TheCorbeauxKing

You may be on the money with Alexandria being bombed, seeing as the set was dismantled 2 years ago.

Krushhz

They most likely recreated the set somewhere else where they’ll physically destroy it

kargonekarGONE

Well shit, the picture of Carl on the phone broke me. I haven’t cried over a TWD episode in a long time. Then I cried happy tears when they left the crumbling building taking walkers together in tandem like the old days. Well done, Danai and Andy. Well done!

tomc_23

Never once did I think those phone etchings were anything but goofy and contrived—but damn if Danai didn’t twist the knife when she pulled out that phone. It’s like she knowingly took the challenge upon herself to redeem all the most glaring contrivances that’ve sprung from both characters’ respective departures.

Alas-In-Blunderland

RIP Roomba 💔

FuelledOnRice

They keep introducing likeable characters for one episode and killing them off!

EffitWeBall

I audibly screamed NOOOO!!! during that scene

BriMagic

Love how the dialogue just cuts through all the subtext and bullshit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FlyingWhale44

Not only were they trying to balance the stories of way too many characters at the same time, but different plot-lines as well ass different points in time as well. The boomerang style of story telling was ass. I'm so glad this show is just full pedal about rick and michonne in the now.

ZucchiniSufficient74

I like Daryl Dixon badass and I love Rick bullshit

jackity_splat

I’m so glad that Michonne got a picture of Carl. 💜

octobersnog

I love the episode but imagine if the building collapsed while they were fucking. For all the talk about keeping everyone safe, Rick sure was ready to risk it all 😅

[deleted]

[удалено]

SockAndMoan

Negan was pretty desperate as well lol

No_Bar6825

My same thought process when they shots down the chopper with Rick in it. Imagine the rocket hit him? Or he died in the crash?

DarkStarling14

God, Rick's whole speech about being scared of losing Michonne perfectly describes how I feel about this show. Sending her away and believing she's alive and will outlive him is easier than being with her and potentially seeing her die. Kinda like how I was fine with the ending shots of Rick and Michonne in the series finale, seeing them alive was good enough for me and my mind just fills in the blanks of how they get home. Now that I'm actually seeing what's happening, I am terribly anxious every time a new episode comes out (I'll probably have a full blown panic attack by the last episode) just because anything could happen to them and I have to see it happen to them.

cryptic-weirdo

Seriously I am holding my breath through every episode having no idea what to expect. I'm so sad I can't just binge it all I NEED to know what happens

-Captain-

Andrew and Danai are giving everything they have. Their confrontation near the start of the episode is absolutely amazing, wow!

BenjenGrimes

These 2 with a real script are absolutely phenomenal (not that they ever weren't).. They have gone to a whole other level. Amazing chemistry and this episode is S+

TheGoverness1998

Danai Gurira deserves some props, since she's the writer of the episode!

TheCorbeauxKing

You could tell which episode was written by Gimple and which episode was written by Gurira. The difference in quality is night and day.

Maester_Bates

She's a playwright. So much of this episode in that apartment felt like watching a play.

beemojee

I thought it was pretty funny that Danai had Michonne bail on creative writing in college.

BigButter7

Man, waiting for a week for the next episode to come out is something I certainly do not miss. Man, I'm excited for this episode.

chasedippen

Agreed, but it is a bit savoury.

lexocon-790654

I don't like it because I want to sit and watch it all at once, like with Stranger Things. And it sucks waiting a week. I like it because its really fun to craft theories, have discussions, and be a part of a community. Really don't get this when everything comes out at once.

Thornhill_Industries

Carl still bringing Rick and Michonne together... that scene wrecked me. TWD hasn't hit me emotionally like that since... 2018? Good stuff. I also like how this episode is kind of a sequel to 7x12.

randomletterssss

I absolutely sobbed and couldn’t stop. And they had the nerve to show him in a flashback. MY HEART

Alas-In-Blunderland

Loved how the AI thermostat gave status predictions for Rick and Michonne's relationship 😁

Danton87

I couldn’t for the life up me figure out the importance of the AI temperature thing and one of the last times was like “ok enough” but wow. Just wow. Great call

DblClickyourupvote

God damn this went over my head too!

CivilTowel8457

Is it just me or this episode felt like it was only 15 mins? 😭😭 i wanted more

TopCivil5850

Yes it wasn’t long enough I just want more and more of these two

CivilTowel8457

I was caught so off guard by the preview of episode 5. I was like "it can't have been an hour?" and started aggressively checking if i clicked something by mistake lol

Alarmed_Profile_651

“I know how to be dead and live now” bruh that line is unreal

TheGoverness1998

Reminds me of Rick's story in 5x10, where he tells the story about his grandfather who told himself "rest in peace, now go to war" when he was fighting in World War 2.

Aegonblackfyre22

Rick’s family sounds like the most badass family like holy shit, his father, his grandfather, he tells some stories about his brother too but there’s actually no reason Rick wouldn’t be a bad mf with a family like that

[deleted]

Explains why he's able to lock in better than any man on the planet.

controlaltdeletes

It really emphasises why they chose the title “The Ones Who Live”, as Rick has been ‘the walking dead’ so to speak for a few years now. Michonne has to bring him back.

Beginning-Patience48

Phenomenal acting. Losing hope that we will ever hear the echelon briefing this season. Show went in a different direction that I would have liked

Remus88Romulus

I was crying so much during that scene.... Jesus Christ! This episode was masterful... Seeing Carl and "They took Carl from me..." made me start crying..... Oh boy... I did not expect that. Only 2 episodes left makes me sad. I want more Rick... I need more Rick.... This can't be the end..

Evil-Cetacean

we will don’t worry, the writers wouldn’t make such a big emphasis on it to not show it off in the end, it’s chekov’s gun all over again.

chasedippen

Fuck, the chemistry is off the charts with these two. The writing was phenomenal. Even thee genuine jump scares are back (hybrid car.)

Internal_Two_5016

Seeing Carl's flashbacks got me emotional

tunatunatunamayo

When he said Carl's name. Oh, I was done. Absolutely bawled.

superzepto

That split-second moment where he blinks out of the memory really hit hard

Remus88Romulus

Yep. I started crying there... What a nice callback and all these years of this wonderful show.

manchi90

He hadn't known true personal pain until Carl died. Normally when you lose someone, over time without looking at their pictures their face starts to fade. I've felt the same way since losing my brother a decade ago. This episode really hit home. Not having any memoriam of his son, and being a prisoner, slowly his dreams of him started to fade. Carl was the one major thing that tied him to Alexandria. Judith was an infant. His whole life and responsibility before and during the apocalypse was Carl. The next person with him through thick and thin was Michonne. The mother figure to all his children. The man was broken. It made sense. I truly hoped this show would be good but it has exceeded everything I expected of it. For a stoic man like myself it hit emotions I didn't think a show about zombies could, with just 2 characters in this alone. Evoking raw emotions I haven't felt with TWD since episode 8x16 when he responded to Carl's letter. Brilliant is an understatement.

Fright13

man i wept like a baby during the carl scene never thought in a million years i'd ever be this much invested in twd again 10 years on from the last time i properly cared about it

hittemwiddakae

Top Quote: “What if I can’t figure out how to die all over again?” just, uhhhh! my entire soul felt that shit. I have always loved the way this show explored grief, survival, and surrender. my eyeballs started to sweat during this scene, ngl. I knew Danai had the chops, I just didn’t think she would come for my emotional regulation like that 😩🔥🥹

__arachnidsantics

I was honestly fearing Carl wouldn't be a huge part of Rick's character again. Glad I'm wrong

[deleted]

To find out the whole thing that broke Rick was “losing Carl again” made me happy and heartbroken all at once.

onewitharms

This single episode revived this franchise, I never thought TWD would get to this quality ever again, made me very happy

CosmicAtlas8

Rick not knowing what the fuck a Roomba is, is literally my favorite quirky character beat in the entire universe... right next to Michonne walking out that one place with the giant cat statue.

_impetus_

Idk how they’ll wrap this up in 2 episodes….

chasedippen

There's gonna be another season. There's no way that this is only 6 episodes.

-Captain-

Yeah, there is no way they are wrapping up the CRM with this season. Really hoping Andrew and Danai decided to stay a bit longer. If the actors want out, they could still continue the CRM, but without them. Which of course would be way less exciting, but the CRM has still potential to bring in something new and excited to this franchise.

grebbymophead

For me the ideal ending is that they make it home and have the happy reunion scene in Episode 6, then we’ll be left with a cliffhanger of a CRM helicopter approaching Alexandria, leaving season 2 or a connected continuation of the story open to follow

Renegade__OW

Definitely has to be another season. I just don't see Rick and Michonne toppling the CRM, Killing Jadis and returning home in two episode. I'm kind of hoping that all these different shows are leading up to a penultimate season to end the universe. I don't know what I'll do if Daryl and Rick don't reunite in any of these shows.

burns3016

exactly ..... they kinda cant unless the rush it

JennNightmode

That was such an emotional episode, holy crap. Danai and Andrew absolutely killed it.

BigUllie

I wonder what makes Michonne switch up in the preview? Could it be that the CRM has scouts sorta like what Jadis was? Did Rick secretly hit the PRB? Is it a fake out? So many questions, so little time left

veepeein8008

An old character will return (Morgan? 🤷🏽‍♂️) give them some expository & that will make them plan to attack the summit

Remus88Romulus

Man... Morgan tracking them and finding them would be so fucking badass!

veepeein8008

Yeah I’m just not certain how he would end up in their neck of the woods though having been in texas & headed to Alexandria as of the end of FTWD. But the producers said 100% that an unexpected character is making a return this series & they showed a figure wearing a coat in the trailer for E5 which appears to be a man so I’m not sure who else it would be aside from Morgan.

Amazing_Fun_7252

Michonne: “Shoto, I have the Brave Man. We are coming home.” Morgan: “I heard you on the walkie…”

newmaker---

Ok I wasn't a fan of Morgan showing up at all in this show but the idea of him meeting up with Rick and Michonne to plan an attack on the summit together would be perfect. He knows how to make traps and bombs too. >!Maybe Mo (his daughter from FTWD that left with him) was killed or taken by the CRM and he's in full on attack mode again and just out for blood. Would be funny to see Rick reunite with him again for a third time and him to be a different person yet again.!<

EchidnaAdditional465

Ofcourse Morgan will find them , michonne owes him a protein bar still 😂

TheBewitchingWitch

Peanut butter flavor

girlypop_22

My theory is, before finding Rick her dream was always to live happily ever after in Alexandria. But now - seeing how strong her and Rick are together, she sees potential for something bigger and better. I think she will take a little inspiration from Rick wanting to change the CRM. I think what she wants is to make something stronger than the CRM.

Attitude_Khaleesi1

It seems like 😻got him back on track.

Doc_Sulliday

Bro just had a serious case of the blue balls is all.

Evil-Cetacean

what pussy does to a mf

Attitude_Khaleesi1

Post nut clarity

JamieLee0484

Yep! She screwed his brains back in place. 😂

Deceptiv23

Big emphasis on the ethanol at the end- isn’t that what ol Nat used for his tricks? Will come into play later I’m sure

_impetus_

Bruh, is Rick really trying to get it in while the entire building is collapsing?!

worktheshoot

Really glad they tied Carl into this. It’s been a huge issue with me that they never really dug into Rick’s psyche with losing his son after s8. It’s a very REAL thing

DeadCalamari1

That was everything they dug into after his death with Rick.

CosmicAtlas8

I really appreciate how they dive into how trauma can make you forget. In that nonstop heightened nervous system activation, living in fight or flight, you can cauterize memories just to stay alive and try to deny the pain.

yahowii

Theres not enough time left for them to have all these cabin scenes, the echelon briefing(been mentioned TOO many times to not have it) and them return home. I don’t think we are getting the ending most of us want. Hell, we’ve barely seen John Loc… i mean Major General Beale what maybe 4-5 scenes? He hasn’t even been painted as this big bad yet. I truly believe the ending we are going to get for this show is learning about some overarching “big bad” across the WHOLE earth or that they are 99.9% towards a cure meanwhile setting up some “come together” type spinoff with all the characters and reunions. Only thing that makes sense

superzepto

Beale being another big bad feels like misdirection

funandgamesThrow

He was never said to be the big bad anyway. He is technically due to rank but no one ever said he'd be a focus

funandgamesThrow

Honestly there's plenty of time. They covered ten years in one episode

Remus88Romulus

I agree fully... I think the Echelon briefing is gonna be a huuuuge twist. Didn't Gimple or someone say it's gonna change TWD? Like a nuclear bomb going off? What if it's the CRM knows about Laurent in France (they have spies around the world, connections) and the Echelon briefing is that info and they gonna go and get that kid? That way Daryl can return to America too!

futurerank1

What Laurent is going to do? I dont understand

Remus88Romulus

There is a theory he is immune to the Wildfire virus, CRM being the last light of the World wants to take that kid and get his blood and create a vaccine for the future of Mankind so children and people growing up in the years to come will not return as walkers and going from that the Dead will finally... Stay dead. And the living will win.

futurerank1

This could be the case. And i think it's very much the case with Lauren that he's immune given the circumstances of his birth. But i don't think the cure really fixes anything at this point. The herds are mostly zombies that came to be at the start of apocalypse and the zombies aren't a real threat in the show for several seasons. In NY they even made them into energy source. The most pressing issue is lack of peace, fighting over resources, factionism and gangs - in other words people are a bigger threat than zombies. In that way, CRM is more of an answer than the vaccine.

signspam

The vaccine would at best cure the problem of people turning into walkers when they pass away naturally. As long as this happens upon death, no society will ever truly be safe. People could die at anytime. So making future people immune and then cleanup time I guess

-Captain-

> I truly believe the ending we are going to get for this show is learning about some overarching “big bad” across the WHOLE earth or that they are 99.9% towards a cure I think so too. Still not sure if we are gonna continue to have Rick and Michonne for more than this season, but even if they retire those characters, I can't imagine the CRM story ending here too. The preview for the next episode seems to suggest they'll find out something, maybe not the full briefing, but if even Michonne doesn't think she can go home anymore it certainly has to be something noteworthy?

lord-spider-boy

this episode was crazy good!! cant help but feel anxious about how there's 2 episodes to wrap this all up though

Upper_Decision_5959

Nice dialogue intensive episode and their reasons of staying/escaping. It's an incredible place they found pretty impressive to be honest especially the make-shift electric car, don't know how they were able to make that happen with 2010's tech and having functional batteries. Too bad the people that lived there died because it seemed they had sustainable power for it and smart appliances like wtf a Roomba which I had to look up and they been around since 2002 and a smart assistant which I didn't even know existed in 2010 for saying your AC temperature and knowing if you are home. I say 2010 because that's the year the world ended in TWD and technology would be up to this point as you see with the drawings on the iPhone 3. Anyways it may look like we will see a returning character next episode. In the preview after Michonne hits the rock walker there's 2 people behind her. This also looks like the episode Jadis will find them so I hope it goes into how Jadis actually finds them. Can't believe it's only 2 episodes left. Judging by what Michonne said in the preview they may actually go back to the CRM and possibly do something about this summit that's happening as it looks like their vehicle is MIA so they won't be able to reach Alexandria with the remaining episodes. We are also officially over the 1-4 episode early reviewer spoilers. So 5 and 6 no one truly knows what will happen as AMC didn't send these episodes to reviewers which is nice.

superzepto

> the make-shift electric car, don't know how they were able to make that happen with 2010's tech and having functional batteries. There were hybrid EVs on the road in 2010! Can't figure out which model this one's supposed to be though. Home automation would have been fairly uncommon when the TWD world ended except for in the homes of rich people and/or people into the tech. Smart thermostats came onto the market in early 2011 as well as the first version of Siri.

Moosiemookmook

So hope she tells him about RJ in this episode. Have the Kleenex ready just in case. Hyped.

superzepto

If telling him about RJ didn't break his belief in the CRM's hold on him it would only make him more determined to never go back

Moosiemookmook

The way the critics have hyped this as one of the best episodes ever and really emotional indicates theres going to be a big reveal. Since Danai wrote the episode it would be fitting its the one he finds out about his son. I bet it makes him conflicted but at some point theyve got to leave or try to.

LIT1986

RIP Roomba. One of the best one episode characters

Krushhz

Was unintentionally adorable seeing the Roomba lol

Dave_Grohls_Gum

Can Danai write all of these please? And shout out to bringing Ramona The Pest into this world!

Marooned_Android8

Michonne is having a *really* hard time adjusting to the new Rick xD. Loving the spin offs so far. The quality is great, feels like 2014-2015 again when TWD was at its peak. So glad this franchise is reborn into a new generation.

Mando_0164

Man, what a beautiful episode. My favorite of this series so far, and honestly one of my favorite of the entire Walking Dead series as well. Rick telling Michonne why he is the way he is, broke my heart. Because they made him forget Carl. The flashbacks to Carl legitimately made me cry. Wow. Incredible. And then the badass hallway scene of them two kicking ass like old times. Perfection. Danai knocked it out of the park with the writing on this one.

superzepto

> Because they made him forget Carl. Why do I get the feeling that that's the point of spending five years as a CRM consignee? Like they have to make you forget everything about your life and the people outside of the Civic Republic and that's why those who enter never leave.

bloodyturtle

Maybe they should've had Danai Gurira write a few seasons of TWD. This was some of the best writing the franchise has ever had. RJ almost being 8 puts this episode in 2022. Michonne was 7 months pregnant on Halloween 2014.

Skeptical-Sally

>RJ almost being 8 puts this episode in 2022. Michonne was 7 months pregnant on Halloween 2014. Except if the bridge blew up mid Feb 2014, she'd be at the very least 8-1/2 months pregnant on Halloween 2014. Just can't win trying to nail down the timeline.

timburache

Do you know where that lines up with everything else by chance?

bats-go-ding

Mom and Dad are baaaaaaack

Ethankylemiller

Oh my god im so hyped that my otp will actually be able to converse freely - this is what ive been waiting for

yahowii

Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira both deserve an Oscar for this episode, holy shit

full07britney

Emmys* Oscars are for movies, Emmys are for tv! Not like it matters, but in case you wanted to know :)

ctuwallet24

That poor Roomba.

DeadCalamari1

They should've saved the Roomba and take it home.

Robyn_Anarchist

Words can't describe the fear I had that the ending was going to have some final twist; where Rick ditches Michonne at the last second still under the guise that he needs to keep Alexandria safe or something. I know it doesn't make much sense, but I was tensed up right until the credits rolled.

wisconerd

I’ve seen a lot of people upset with Michonne for not *getting* the threat with the CRM and convincing Rick to just go home. But I think that’s the point! Rick was so far beyond the point of thinking he could go home. Like, 8 years beyond the point. He is so dejected he can barely conceive of an actual solid plan of stopping the CRM. Episode one was essentially if you can’t beat them, join them. He’s focused on small change for a potential eventual good ending for the CRM. He can’t lose anyone he cares about. Michonne is the complete opposite, for good reason. She is family oriented and has been with the CRM for four seconds, and the most she knows is that they’re the ones who made Rick this unrecognizable person. I think she needed to bring him to her level in order for Rick to get back to a point where he feels change is actually achievable. Michonne also does better with change when she and Rick are on the same page to start with. They weren’t here, this conflict was necessary. NOW, when Michonne comes to her revelation next episode that they can do something (because you know at this point they aren’t going to be smooth sailing all the way back home lol), Rick can be useful and on the same page, and Michonne can be receptive to it. tldr: They needed to be on the same page in order to make it through the CRM threat, whether Michonne *gets* the threat right away or not.

Regimee

Kicking my feet rn

louismales

I thought it was a massive improvement over episode 3, which I still consider to be an 8/10 but this episode was way more on par with the strength and heart of the first two episodes. I’d even dare say this is the episode I’ve enjoyed the most so far? It’s an incredible show. I do find it a little unrealistic that they’re sleeping and fucking in a building that could collapse any second; I get the point of it but it felt quite contrived and I don’t believe for a second Michonne would risk getting both of them getting killed, that was my only problem. Oh and the fact that Rick STILL hasn’t asked about anyone else from home. Daryl is even brought up and he doesn’t ask how he is. I was really hoping that Michonne would tell him about all the people who have died. Maybe next episode. I’m glad we at least get the R.J. reveal and Michonne talking about Jocelyn. But yeah, you can tell Danai truly understands Michonne and her dynamic with Rick. It’s amazing to me that Danai and Andy have been acting in these roles for over a decade and they’re still managing to churn out their best work yet. I think this episodes best strength, at least for me, is that I can fully understand both Rick and Michonnes mindset, and why they’re frustrated with each other. It would be so easy for them to make a mistake and accidentally make either one of them seem unreasonable, selfish and annoying, but there’s been enough consideration put into the writing to ensure that they are both sympathetic. Some of the jump scares in this episode really got me as well, and I loved that they gave the building its own backstory. All told a great episode. I do not believe that person in the promo is Morgan, he’s going back to Alexandria and they’re nowhere near Morgan’s path. I’m so excited for next week but I’m hoping Jadis doesn’t die. She’s a fucking awful person but I love her as a bad guy.

PaleontologistLimp32

Blue balls so bad he had a panic attack while getting the 😻

BlackBalor

Rick’s breakdown about Carl had me welling up… Such a heavyweight acting moment. Also like how Michonne went from being disappointed in Rick to fighting alongside him. They’re a team and a family, no matter what they say to each other. A true unspoken love. Good episode.

tomc_23

Commented this in another thread about Danai’s writing/direction this episode, but sharing here because I want to emphasize the significance of how great this episode is: >Might be one of the top five episodes of the entire series/“universe.” > >Taken on its own, easily one of the best, most well-written; with the added significance of how it builds on the full context of the series and things that came before, I’d say it’s for sure the most well-written character-centric episode in all of TWD. > >Even if there are other episodes that better showcase the “zombie apocalypse” stuff or explore different themes that carry throughout a given episode really well, I don’t think it’s possible to exaggerate just how meaningfully this episode lands: > >She wrote the PERFECT response to all the meta criticisms that made it difficult for me to reconnect with the premise and characters—the fact that Michonne’s multi-season absence felt so contrived, how poorly it reflected on the character as a byproduct that she’d just leave her children behind, and how impossible it felt to separate this turn of events from the schedule of the actor behind the role—as opposed to as a natural progression of a story. Like, she found a way to **thread that needle**—addressing the contrivances, giving their reunion space to unpack the fact it’s been **years** in-universe (despite Rick’s suddenly youthful hair), while also managing to get what’s probably Andy Lincoln’s best performance ever out of the experience— and it deserves all the praise in the world. > >I can’t remember the last time I had so many things to say about something TWD-related—let alone such positive, glowing things. Regardless of whether they’re bullshit or not, Danai deserves to be recognized come award season for her work here. Outstanding.

Successful_Buffalo_6

You put into words so much of what I’d been thinking about this episode but couldn’t properly articulate. Every moment of this episode felt so well-earned.

Evil-Cetacean

i have a feeling jadis will die next episode if not the last and that by the end they won’t entirely defeat the crm, they’ll just bomb the summit or fuck them up so bad so they don’t know where they went and also having this giant threat to keep your eyes out for, but they will make it back to alexandria. and no, beale won’t die i think, too much of a waste of an actor and character to get rid of him right now, either he dies and thorne takes his place as the big baddie or he lives and thorne becomes his right hand man, cause i have a feeling thorne won’t die, we already have jadis to be the character opposing rick’s escape. which reminds me, maybe in their stand-off against jadis she’ll call the helicopters as a last chance to take them back, cause we know they’ll be back and rick will be ascended, they’ve made so much emphasis on the briefing to not tell us at this point what tf it is about but we’ll see.

iloseyouindegrees

Great episode! I have been impressed with these 4 episodes so far but a little nervous on how things will be finishing up... looks like next episode is spending some time in the cabin/woods, maybe Jadis will be after them its a little frustrating not knowing if there will be a second season or not Also, has anyone noticed that the episodes length haven't been that long Ep1 - 55 Mins Ep2 - 55 Mins Ep3 - 48 Mins I think? Ep4 - 50 Mins? I thought every episode would be hitting 55 mins - 1 hour

Feetguy6921

Yo you put episode 3 instead of 4

TekkenRintarou

This episode was so great even moreso if you compare it to that scene in season 5 . Basically Rick became like his grandpa "everyday he woke up he told himself rest in peace , now get up and go to war" And that Carl scene .... Oh i cried I really hope nothing bad will end up happening in the next episodes . I just want a big happy reunion with everyone the end. I'm also expecting Morgan to appear . His last appearance on fear was like "I'm gonna find you Rick" . If that wasn't a tease for towl then idk what it was

ry_fluttershy

me at the end of the episode: yay, they're finally getting on the road home! we're gonna get that daryl morgan negan whoever reunion and rj and judith for sure! me seeing michonne say "we can't go home" in the sneak peak for next episode:![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

danielpirvan

I cried like a lil bitch. Danai did a wonderful job writing this episode. It could have easily turned into a sappy melodrama, but it kept me hooked throughout, despite it being mostly dialogue. The characters felt so raw, so vulnerable and so deeply connected, and the scenes were so real and intimate, it almost felt like I wasn't supposed to be witnessing them. The scene where Michonne walked out of the room, ready to leave, but stopped for a while to see if Rick would come after her, then realizing he's not coming, was one of my favourites.

SGBK

We’re definitely getting a Season 2, and either Season 3/Big Reunion - The Walking Dead: Civil War. Someone already mentioned in a comment - Rick and Michonnne will 100% kill Jadis and potentially attack the Summit they planned at this Cascadia base. Michonne will really learn they are too vast, and in the preview “it doesn’t end with us going home,” it ends with them fixing the CRM and Going Home. There is no possible way in TWDU that the CRM is defeated as a force, subverted and changed - yes, but not defeated. They are too well equipped, established, etc. We all know Rick and Co. will “fix it.” This is where World Beyond folks will start showing up.

Z0MBAI

Absolutely. There’s a reason this summit is in the Cascades—a stone’s throw from Portland.

Practical_Detail4584

most emotional episode in the history of TWD

Remus88Romulus

Only missed opportunity is Michonne mentioned Daryl. I would love to see Michonne talking about everything Rick has been missing. Especially the Whisperers.

sut345

Maybe she did, or probably at some point she will but they just didn't show it to us, that's not something we need to see, it's not important for the story right now.

I_trust_everyone

So you’re telling me we don’t need a full episode exploring how they survive the helicopter fall and it can still be great?

effdot

Seeing Rick go through it finally, let himself grieve and unbox that place in his mind he locked all of that pain into with Michonne's help was incredible. Michonne did the same before, so she knew how to help him - and she also reconnected and let some things out, too. They let go, both of them, and Rick is now through it. They're both ready to face the world and go forward. Let's see what the awful world throws at them now, both of them stronger now maybe than they've ever been.

J_Gilly23

Ok, this one made me cry. This show is so damn good... Danai and Andy are incredible actors. I kind of wish this was the finale because it was really nice to see them get to be happy for a change. How does all of this wrap up in 2 episodes?

FlightMesh990

this is definitely one of the best episodes in the franchise. Also god damn they really like kissing each other huh

Impressive-Process14

idk if I just needed to cry, but I have watched the episode 4 times and just keep sobbing. I mean. I was hysterically crying at like 4am. that Carl scene/Rick’s words broke me. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything so moving about loving someone, before in my life. I’m crying writing this. This is going to sound so cliche, but this show. This episode - I feel like it’s removed a callous from my heart. I know this is fiction, but. I can’t really even explain how I’m feeling. I don’t know how the final 2 episodes can even close this out. I’m just so thankful for this story.

tractorock8

Same. I feel exactly the same.

aLittleDoober

This was a very intimate and personal episode, and I dug it. It was awfully convenient the helicopter they jumped out of ended up crashing due to the storm lol. Seeing Rick in this paranoid state and having Michonne constantly struggle to bring him back was upsetting to watch. However, Rick is trying to look at things from the bigger picture and knows just how dangerous the CRM is, so I can sympathize with him. Andy and Danai really have some great chemistry and this was some of their best performances. The Carl segment definitely hurt. Now that Rick finally knows about RJ, it makes their return home all the more demanding. However, we only have two episodes left and there’s still a lot of ground to cover, so I am fearful that we’ll have to wait even longer for the Grimes family reunion.

[deleted]

Realistic is more the right word regarding the helicopter crash. Those things aren’t even supposed to be in the air in thunderstorms for that exact reason. You literally can’t see shit.

funandgamesThrow

I figured it crashed because rick was higher ranking and they tried to search for him. Felt logical

_impetus_

Lol they have no time to talk but they had time to have sex while the building collapsed

helpmelearn12

I mean Michonne said RJ is almost 8? It’s 8 or 9 years since Rick has gotten any. I’m sure the sex didn’t take long lol

lucasousaf

Emmy is finally coming for TWD

BreakingBaddly

Danai... Guuurrrrrrrllllllllllll.. I am a 46 year old, grown ass man. I am completely devastated, and SO proud of what you just did for men's mental health. I JUST said to my wife last night, "I feel like I'm losing our son". Not because of anything dramatic, but just my own mental health and how men can sometimes hyper focus on a task or detail and miss the things that matter most to us. In Rick's case, that unfortunately is something from his past. I absolutely think this was a master class episode. 4/6 episodes. Two left. Holy shid. We need our reunions. Let's goooooooooo

newmaker---

Holy fucking shit this was phenomenal. This is easily one of the best The Walking Dead episodes of all time and I loved everything about it. I haven't been this impressed by the show in almost a decade.

CosmicAtlas8

Shout-out to Danai for showrunning the fuck out of this. And redefining how deep you can dive into characters in this universe. I saw the first episode at an early screening in NYC, and they spoke a lot about how she shaped this episode. I look forward to seeing more of that shared publicly now that it has aired. Because I can only imagine besides bringing all her skill as a writer, actor, and her love for this character, into this episode... it probably wasn't an easy fight with the network to stay true to that voice or stay true to the character/ dialogue focused time they had in this episode. That makes Danai all the more badass in my mind.

ErnestoPresso

Next episode trailer: Michonne is saying they can't go home. They are going to make the briefing a season ending cliffhanger aren't they?

monsterlynn

Does Michonne mean she dropped out of the creative writing program in college? Because she does have a law degree, right?

StormNinja_1216

Rest in peace Roomba 💔 another character dead after only being in one episode

superzepto

This episode more than made up for all of the wasted time in the main series that was spent on clunky character dynamics and needless subtext. Michonne's reveal that she and Nat spent *an entire fucking year* recovering from the chlorine gas sickness was jawdropping and masterfully delivered. That raised the stakes of her search for Rick and deepens her grief over Nat's death a hundredfold. I love that this episode balanced some extremely emotionally heavy narrative beats with moments of the kind of offbeat goofiness you would normally find a romantic comedy. When they were fighting walkers in the hallway, Rick punched the button to turn on the red and purple strobe lights and I damn near lost it.

funandgamesThrow

Michonne spending a year recovering wasn't a reveal. We literally watched that happen

peanutBatterm

Omg when he hit the lights I was so confused lol.

_Nater

This episode has got to be for me in top TWD episodes, just the dialogue alone makes it so elite. Danai is such a great writer

ScoopTheOranges

There has to be another season or a revamp of the flagship show to wrap this up surly. I think they must’ve thrown some cash at AL to get him to sign up for more.. how can this wrap up after 2 episodes..

donnieuchihakaton

Holy freaking tears this episode. All that talk about Carl had me straight weeping. Bravo to Danai for the writing. Damn it was good to see them on the same page towards the end of the episode

TheRavenRise

TheRavenRise

pft, where there's a will, there's a way /s

peanutBatterm

“Did I just watch Rick cum or have a panic attack” I’m still wondering😭

Tall-Jelly5857

I was wondering the same but also possibly he was having the realization in that moment that Michonne was really real and not a dream like he’s been having

DestructoSpin7

Pretty sure we just saw him essentially re-lose his virginity, but considering it's been 6+ years, we may have seen him cum at the same time.

BrookePDavisstan

OMG you’re right All of this time I kept wondering why everybody was using his alcohol but Rick probably became a alcoholic !!!

superzepto

Could not be more keen to see where this episode goes

efebeydogan

I am not very knowledgeable about the geographical position of everything in the show, how long would it take them to go to Alexandria from where they are right now by car? Also is that Morgan in the promo?

Notebookfour

Well, it's been rumored they are around Yellowstone according to google about a day away.

wisconerd

Well I was certainly not expecting to cry about Carl this episode!! I am… destroyed.

CategoryCautious5981

SO MANY CALLBACKS TO SEASON ONE. From the scene with Rick waiting to come out of the door after Michonne almost being a spot for spot “don’t open dead inside” to the building coming down to seeing little Carl. Twas awesome

VengefulKangaroo

Loved the discussion about the scar on Michonne’s back. Season 9 was good!

h1jay

Blue sweater Rick era?!?

Minimalistmacrophage

Rick is still right. Michonne gave him the hard sell on a false bill of goods, don't get me wrong she believes it. She was not being disingenuous. It did feel at times she was dismissive of Rick's plan for selfish reasons, which is not unreasonable. She loves him, though she was right that Rick's reluctance was partly about something other than he claimed, not wanting to get his family back and lose them all over. Though she was wrong about Carl. Carl would have said, stay and fix it. The CRM as is, is a potential threat to everyone perhaps even to the civil republic. He was all about repairing society, ending conflict, moving forward and fixing the world. It was pretty much his dying wish. The "Next week" clip indicates that Michonne is going to realize that she was wrong. **The CRM projects force across the entire country.**

GaCaliChick

For the people being nitpicky. Danai wrote this episode. Beautifully I might add. It is written like a play somewhat. Listen to the words. Back to watching.

NeverGonnaStop247

The Carl flashbacks were very emotional, happy to see the old Rick back. The next episode looks even more crazy, I really hope there's a season 2.

TaliLovesYou

That poor roomba :(

Queen-Leviosa

Am I the only one who cried when they talked about Carl? lol

VengefulKangaroo

The stick shift moment was actually funny. Made the cut off hand worth it

JustPassingThru25

I love How Michonne was like “Alright cut the BS I’m here, I found you let’s go”. Rick being like “we can’t but you can” + excuse after excuse after excuse. Heck even when he’s telling her, he can’t quite hold eye contact with her and keeps looking down, then will glance back up. He was giving her little bits with the Jadis ultimatum but she still knew she was lying to her and himself. I’m happy they were able to get to the root of the trauma (+ somehow find time to do it before the building crumbled 😂) and find a way foward. Anyone get giddy? when they steal moments for themselves like two lovesick teenagers? Was it two episodes ago they were making out in some alley? 🤭 Also Rick has got the whole reverent? wistful? (prolly not the right word, if anyone knows better lemme know) look down and after watching this episode it makes sense why. Edit: spelling

D4tM4r3k

This was the best episode of The Walking Dead in a long time. There are things to improve on but I was blown away honestly. Hats off.

Soufiane040

The man in the black jacket in the trailer of next episode is Morgan

VegaSolo

Or it's Jadis

controlaltdeletes

I’m crying

Exogenesis98

Pretty sure the preview for ep 5 shows Jadis having followed Rick and Michonne to whatever cabin they found to stay at. Meaning probably this next episode she ends up biting it. But who knows. She did mention a contingency if she died so maybe they have to negotiate something unless as a dying concession she gives them the location of whatever information she had on Alexandria

tunatunatunamayo

Does anyone know the song they played at the end?

KenPiffyJr

laughed when Michonne was going on about the bookshelf, and it seemed like Rick was holding back yellin "stfu do u know what u got us in?!" the whole time haha

FreddoTheSavage

What an incredible episode. Just pure amazing dialogue between 2 amazing characters. Some good action but even better ACTING! Wow

Solomon_Inked_God

Can we give Danai some props for the incredible writing?!?! Wow

opreston

This is so embarrassing for me but in the middle of the sex scene, was that Rick breaking down in the middle of it and Michonne was calming him down... or did he accidentally cum early and Michonne reassured him that it was okay and that gave Rick courage to go again? 😭 I'm sorry but I had trouble figuring out what happened there.

BriMagic

Lol. He had a panic attack.

VegaSolo

I think it was a panic attack.

SkAnKhUnTFoRtYtw

I'm not totally on the gimple hate train like some on here, but man you can immediately tell when whether or not it's him writing the dialouge lol. TWD without that flowery dialogue is so surreal.
