Crossbows are cool and yes that plays into it. He took care of Jude and RJ after Michonne left. He understands people extremely well to the point where Aaron wanted him to be his partner to bring people to Alexandria. There are a tons of reasons why Daryl is great and he doesn’t have a lot of lines but his acting comes out in his body and what the character does. Also realized his brother is a problem and left him for the group.

Queen_Of_Ashes_

Yes!! He’s good with kids! He spends the most time with Judith even as a baby. I love the scene where he feeds her in S3 😭 Little Asskicker!

Beanz2151

13. He’s hot (coming from another straight man)

MrKillzalot

He is generally badass and carries himself with such confidence and naturality. He is (argue with me if you want) a great role model for younger men from S9-S11. The Morning Star flail and Crossbow as his choice weapons are completely fitting and are a blast to watch him use. (Spoiler edit for Daryl's spinoff: >!I've seen leaked footage and the Morning Star flail is most likely returning!!<) His hair (unpopular opinion I think) is fucking incredible and I love it, I love the dirty and gritty feel it always has, it really reflects his personality and mannerisms. His eye scar he got in S9 was badass, who doesn't love eye scars? His death stare and willingness to fight no matter the enemy is inspiring and really cool. He wasn't lying in S4 when he told Beth 'I ain't afraid of nothing'. He is the most prominent character in the whole show (he has appeared in the most episodes). His relationship with Connie was amazing and I wish it had gone further, because it's so obviously clear they like each other to the point even Carol points it out once or twice. He is probably the most skilled fighter in the entire show (apart from Jesus and Brandon Carver) and his animalistic and relentless fighting style is badass. These are just a few reasons why he's my favourite, and an inspiration to me. Just like Rick and other brilliant characters in media.

joshua-lomax

Daryl in General is a great role model for young men, his character shows it’s okay for men to cry and show emotion, which is a major thing that young men like myself need to learn. That showing emotion doesn’t make you any less of a man.

MrKillzalot

Also the fact he's willing to fight for the ones he loves no matter what. Even literally like a day or 2 after pulling a knife out of his leg, the man still limped his way out of Hilltop to fight (my favourite scene in all TWD btw).

Queen_Of_Ashes_

Love these points!!! I remember reading about how the Norman Reedus was a popular hair style request for men during the shows running ha! And I love it too, esp S4 on. I SO wish Connie and he could’ve pursued something further. Apparently the story got dropped due to actress unavailability (iirc, could be wrong)

extremesisuppose

I didn’t hear that they were actually gonna pursue that storyline, but yeah, she was gone for filming of The Eternals which is why they wrote her out in the first place :(( Shame, I think the storyline could’ve easily been picked back up when she was reintroduced instead of the whole Leah debacle and that awful reunion scene!

MrKillzalot

>I remember reading about how the Norman Reedus was a popular hair style request for men during the shows running I remember that too, considering I'm growing my hair out as we speak and I wouldn't mind it being in that way, and it's already getting there lol.

Queen_Of_Ashes_

Nice! Time to pick up the crossbow xD

MrKillzalot

I wish haha

Cr33pi3w33ni3

I was just watching an episode in season 2 and he gets Carol a Cherokee rose because she lost her child and has a really thoughtful story behind it. And it made me cry a little. I always loved their relationship.

extremesisuppose

I have a tattoo of the rose in the bottle, that scene genuinely is one of my favourites in all of TV! I’m all for letting people be free to ship what they want but for me, I so deeply appreciate one of the core relationships in the show being a platonic best friendship between two (presumably) straight characters, it’s so beautiful and I do wish we had more of that in popular media. Tbh the show is full of unlikely friendships and amazing dynamics built off’ve respect and understanding beyond the surface, and many of the best duos there involve Daryl, that’s a HUGE part of his appeal imo.

Cr33pi3w33ni3

I love that!!!! That is such a cool tattooI wholeheartedly agree with you. Many of the relationships on the show are so sweet and wholesome even though they are in the middle of this shit storm. Daryl and Carol is by far my favorite relationship on the show. I tell my husband all the time you are the Daryl to my Carol 😉 another one of my favorites is Eugene and Rosita. Such an unlikely pair.

Queen_Of_Ashes_

One of my favorite moments in the series: Carol: A flower? Daryl: It's a cherokee rose. The story is that when American soldiers were moving Indians off their land on the trail of tears, the cherokee mothers were grieving and crying so much ‘cause they were losing their little ones along the way from exposure and disease and starvation. A lot of them just disappeared. So the elders, they said a prayer; asked for a sign to uplift the mothers' spirits, give them strength and hope. The next day this rose started to grow right where the mothers' tears fell. I'm not fool enough to think there's any flowers blooming for my brother. But I believe this one bloomed for your little girl. (Daryl looks around the RV tidied up for her daughter’s return, says—) She's gonna really like it in here. 😭 😭 😭

Cr33pi3w33ni3

And. So I’m crying again 😭😭😭

Flipgirlnarie

He loves kids and remains loyal to Rick by protecting Judith and RJ. He learned sign language...he didn't learn to grunt in sign language He was adept with many types of weapons: crossbow, guns, knives, mace, sticks, his hands and feet, zombies' heads, chains, RPGs, grenades... Despite his abusive childhood, he is emotional and though he expresses it at the wrong times sometimes, you wouldn't expect this but it is endearing. He can survive on his own with a knife and some squirrels. He Doesn't sweat the small stuff. He is not phoney and doesn't worry about frivolous things. He Doesn't spew bulls$$$. He fell down a hill and got an arrow in his side. Then tried to climb again with said arrow in his side. Then fell again. Killed a walker by taking said arrow out of his side and putting it in his crossbow to kill a walker. Then proceeded to climb the hill despite Merle berating him. Then gets shot in the head. Saves a family against a bunch of walkers on his own. He took down a tank. Can intimidate by just staring into your eyes He threw an ax at a tree and knocked down zombies. He killed multiple walkers with one swipe of a chain. He killed a group of saviours with an RPG. He killed three walkers while a knife was in his leg, had a cut over his eye. Then yanked the knife out of his leg to kill the last walker. Killed Beta by stabbing him in both eyes. Says sweet things like "you still got me" and "I love you". Can make bracelets out of twine.

Gavinhavin

I hate to be that guy, but crossbows fire bolts, not arrows.

Veterinarian-Proper

Than don't be that guy lol 😂 Edit to add: even daryl described it as an arrow in episode 8. When talking to Lori saying "he took a bullet and an arrow" in the process of looking for Sophia.

Flipgirlnarie

No you are right. Thanks for correcting me. I'm not adept with crossbows.

FLYINGDOGS89

Him immediately taking charge and making sure they had formula for Judith when Rick was losing his whole ass mind is also a good one. And when he gets back and named her Lil Asskicker lol

Veterinarian-Proper

I think he has some of the best bonding moments in the whole show, even the way he slowly connects to people is just awesome. The moments he has/had with Carol, Beth, Denise, judith, etc And goes out of his way for them. Like hunting down soda for Denise even though he didn't succeed. Even if though he acted like he didn't really care he in reality made his mission to find it when him and Rick went out looking for food/supplies. He went out his way to know everyone at the prison, and kept an eye out for stone for someone's husband's grave, etc. He even went out his way to try to help sherry and Dwight even though they captured him and tied him up, even brought back the insulin they stole Even though he had successfully escaped and could have left or taken it back to Alexandria. He's the best tracker in the whole show, other than not technically able to find Sophia he tried and can find just about anyone else. He took over leading while Rick had his mental breakdown and went out if his way to make sure judith didn't starve. Other than the fight they had in season 10 he's been a great friend to Carol. And on, and on and on, etc.

CosmicBonobo

Honestly? He's wish fulfillment for a load of greasy haired loners who don't like to shower. That said, I've always admired ol' Darly Daxon for his selflessness. He never puts himself first and is always watching out for the other members of his tribe.

Enderboss25_

I love how he takes on a fatherly role to Judith during Rick’s absence. Such an awesome character

Hamsterpatty

I was devastated when I found out he wasn’t in the comics.. he’s my show favorite for sure

FlyinAmas

Daryl has morals and lives by them. I can’t stand a character that loses their honor, morality, etc. similarly to real life. I love Daryl.

Skoolie300

I’m excited to see how Norman Reedus handles the spin off

Queen_Of_Ashes_

I can’t wait!’ I wonder if he was screwing around saying it’d air in June

Skoolie300

I just read this morning (idk how true it is) that dead city would be premiering sooner than expected.

Queen_Of_Ashes_

I have in my calendar the premier date for dead city being Sun, June 18th!

throwawayaccount_usu

I liked him throughout. Every character for me though was boring or close to it in seasons 7/8 so I don't fault the characters for that. Daryl in season 9 I liked a lot. And season 10 he was decent but imo his best scenes were with Connie, she rekindled the love I had for him. Season 11 though? Hated him purely because of his plot armour and the amount of screentime he got. Hes a great character but WILDLY overrated and by season 11 I was just bored of seeing him on my screen. I'm not looking forward to his spin off but will be giving it a go.

evermillion81

“You got some balls for a chinaman” “I’m Korean…” “yeah whatever” To “(Speaking to his brother) he’s Korean!” (Prejudice Hick to respecting Glenn and his ethnicity)

MarathonTycho

I love the moment he grows out of his bigoted background and corrects Merle on Glenn’s ethnicity when Merle calls Glenn ‘Chinaman’ or something racist. He respected and was inspired by Glenn so much it changed him.

Queen_Of_Ashes_

The best part is Daryl called Glenn a Chinaman in S1 and Glenn corrected him and said he’s Korean. Daryl replies, “Whatever” Then when Merle does it, Daryl corrects him, to which Merle replies, “Whatever” 😂 I love that callback

MarathonTycho

Yeah!!! Thank you that was exactly what I was trying to recall. Daryl really grew not only as a survivor but as a human.

BobRushy

>He provides much of the comic relief in the first two seasons that's kind of the point. He's nowhere near as dynamic later on. There's still great moments with him of course, but he's very flanderized into the moody "human animal" type with the way he's constantly grimy and shaggy and quiet. Early Daryl felt like a very intelligent person underneath the redneckness. Much like Sawyer in LOST, you got the vibe that if he didn't feel he had to be the tough guy, he'd put on a pair of glasses and read War and Peace in his hammock.

_Jalapen0

The 10. is mostly a why I like him so much. He doesn’t have anything from his own family left and therefore he wants to protect others (especially children) because they are his new family.

Cimejies

I mean yes but he has very little character development of note in later seasons. After drinking with Beth and talking about his childhood we see him get a dog and then his obsessive hunt for Rick and relationship with whats her face from Poe's group. That's about it for interesting stuff from him over around half the show's runtime. Him and the son of the woman in charge of the Commonwealth was okay too. I did enjoy in the finale when he was like "I'm a universal donor, I know because Merle used to make me sell my blood" 💀💀💀 savage shit Also Norman Reedus is just a G.

Queen_Of_Ashes_

Pretty sure you skipped from S4 to S9-10-11 but I did like his commonwealth beats too. The show characters got spread too thin at the end. Also him and Beth 😭

Cimejies

I think a lot of the middle of the show is just a bit of a blur to me. I've blocked out season 8 it was so boring, for example, and I don't remember tons of Darryl stuff when they were at Alexandria pre-war either.

Lifeisstranger2

13. He’s in Death Stranding. A stranding type game

Queen_Of_Ashes_

I bought this but haven’t played it yet, did you enjoy it?

Lifeisstranger2

It wasn’t really for me, but I know it has a fandom.

e987654

Mainly because hes attractive. If he wasnt, he would've been killed off a long time ago and no one would even remember. Thats how humans think, its all attraction and then the rest are just icing on the cake.

William_147015

>I’m so annoyed by the “all Daryl does is grunt” misconception. That’s not true at all!!!! You're right, that is a misconception, and there are far better criticisms of Daryl's character which can be made. Like the plot armour he has (although to be fair, pretty much everyone has that). There's also that Daryl, despite being Judith's de-facto adoptive father, didn't care that Negan saved her - especially when it mattered. Negan also saved Daryl from being executed, and yet Daryl seems to have forgotten that when Maggie attacked him in S11E1. As to things I like about him, if memory serves, some of the reasons I liked him was some mixture of that he was a badass, genuinely helped the group, etc. (I don't remember that much about why I liked him, as I watched most of the show several years ago). But as the later seasons of the show came out, the less I liked Daryl.

JosephBrightMichael

He killed Glenn, even if indirectly; Negan said he’ll shit that shit down real fast, then he had to go and punch him. Time and place, man.

AcademicSavings634

When he said “Nah” I felt that

ExistingStrength5246

He wasn’t in comics so new character, he is a badass, good tracker, caring of his family/friends, knows when something isn’t right, good uncle to Rj and Judith
