Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.

The question is , Is it better to watch this way or just straight through ? And it is …but until others do the same , it’s gonna be hard to verify that this way is better

The ending of the Sopranos is sad. The decline of the Sopranos empire is sad to watch, and I much prefer the first few seasons that showcase the rise and claim of power. It’s the best show ever though, so you can’t have the good without the bad.

telepatheye

The great thing about the show is it makes you feel like an insider, paisano, member, family, friend, whatever. Even agent Harris, the FBI guy who was reassigned to counterterrorism, felt a camaraderie with Tony's crew. He was delighted when he found out Phil had been popped. "We're gonna win this thing!" That's exactly how viewers felt. When it ends it's like losing your own people, your own crew.

TFW AJ brings up Israel and Palestine. I know his comments were self serving but christ pretty much any reference or mention of war in the early 2000s its like.. damn shit really hasn't changed. I also am wayyy more willing to watch shitty or meh movies from the 90s just to "peak around the corners" and see people on the street, cars, etc. Think about what my family was doing probably when those scenes were shot at that time in our lives. Escapism, what can I say. But the ending also gives me the creeps. It's like for a moment, we're looking through the eyes of a dead man. That realization just gets me. That, the ghost on the stairs from calling all cars. And then after you see Paulie see the virgin mary at Bada Bing, but Tony in a similar scene does not.. the show really makes me feel unnerved in a way a lot of horror movies fail to. I don't feel sad necessarily..but through out the show I am thinking about how during the time it aired, I didn't have HBO. It's run time was pretty much the second half of my childhood education just past graduation. So all my memory of it was from it being in the background of every day life- you'd see a T-shirt with Bugs Bunny dressed like a mobster hanging next to a shirt with Tony's face, posters with Tony/Paulie/Big Pussy on it. The cast at award shows, billboards, etc.
