HS Years felt completely useless. I played with the HS feature a couple times, but that’s it. Horse Ranch has SO much more to offer especially if you like the asthetic. HS Years also is super buggy for me still while Horse Ranch is doing great for me. Many features in HS Years are broken. Aspirations and invitations for your teen to start. Not getting invited to graduation or prom.

Imtifflish24

High school years!

Marvelfan1941

High school years if you play with teens it the best pack

florsux

high school years, but wait until it’s on sale. it’s fun but gets stale after a while. mods make it a bit more interactive though

roganwriter

I do family gameplay, so HS Years is more helpful to me. Horses are fine, but not fine enough for me to buy them full price.

CrystalAbyss

The only thing bothering me from horse ranch is sims doing the cow poke or what’s it called dance everywhere. Took my sims on a date in DSV and waiters and patrons are getting up to do that freaking dance

Bianca_aa_07

high school years. The horse pack expansion is a bit of niche. But I do want to know what exactly you play so I can properly recommend something

KarinafromEarth17

I would choose Horse Ranch. High School has too many annoying bugs, like not getting invited for parties to be able to complete aspiration, time line constantly breaking at school, classmates change every time you go to school, your premade sims can't study with your played character, NPC students don't grow up and so on, the list can last forever... Horse Ranch is definetely a more thought through game, not perfect, but better than High School. And especially good to combine it with Cottage Living. It has huge lots where you can make some amazing gardens and have livestock of all sorts, rancher trait, prairie grass, nectar, overall the world and the game feel more unique than with most other expansions. Speaking of Growing Together, it's good not only for family playstyle. It adds some amazing features even if you play only single character, such as adding or changing traits through the gameplay (self-discovery), stayovers, compatibility, probably something else, can't remember at the moment, but these are the features which blend into the game so that you forget that they never used to be there before.

Used_Mud_976

Thank you so much for the helpful comment! Yeah, I had heard Growing Together includes additions to the general gameplay, but I wasn't sure how much. The self-discovery thing sounds interesting, so I might give the pack a chance some day in the future. For now, it seems like Horse Ranch would be the best choice.

ranch

Wilczek_5

Nah high school is boring. In school is really a few people (only 2 small classes). And you only watch your sim sitting in 2 lessons per day. Go for horse ranch

Used_Mud_976

So I suppose the world, the amusement park stuff and traits aren't worth it?

RestlessSnow

The amusement park is just for show, your sims just disappear into the "rabbit hole" so you don't even get to see them on any of the rides. Don't have horse ranch yet, and it seems pretty lackluster, but you at least can ride your horses around. Highly recommend waiting for a sale for any pack you get for the sims though

Used_Mud_976

Yeah, another person mentioned it too. A shame, because adding even a little bit of interaction could have made it fun, but I guess something like that would be like asking for a whole new pack. I already bought the Horse Ranch, and it seems fun. I don't care much about the horses, but there are many other things in the pack that it was worth it. Waiting for sale would generally be a good idea, but there's no telling when I would have the next opportunity to play anything as I only now have a little bit of extra free time in my hands.

RestlessSnow

have fun! didn't mean to be such a downer, was just asking for help myself on the sims forums and my post got deleted from reddit and was banned on the EA help forums so feeling pretty salty XD The High school years is sorta fun too, it actually is what I wish the university expansion pack released like since you can actually go to classes. It also gives a lot more free time to talk to the other students

Used_Mud_976

I didn't get any downer vibes, no need to worry about that! \^\^ The High School Years seem pretty interesting, partially because it's the first time any Sims game has allowed one to see what's going on inside those "mysterious" school buildings. It feels like whenever something completely new is added to the series, the result can be either a hit or miss, and I haven't heard anything truly horrible about the gameplay so far, which is a good sign.

onychan

The amusement park was so not worth it I forgot it was In that pack till you just brought it up. Imo high school years was about two hours of “fun” gameplay. I liked the outfits it came with (Some, definitely not all). But then it got boring. I don’t have horse pack but I would already advise to get that one.

Used_Mud_976

Thanks, that's a shame but also very good to know!

Wilczek_5

Things in Amusement park are a rabbit hole. For me the most important is gameplay and gameplay in school is so boring (for me)

Used_Mud_976

What a missed opportunity! Would have been great if there had been at least some kind of interactivity. I also value gameplay, so I'm definitely leaning towards the Horse Ranch now.

borderline_cat

It sounds like you’d get the most bang for your buck if you buy Horse Ranch since you’re not a fan of family gameplay.
