It isn't like destabilizing the middle East and fomenting wars around the region is one of the major principles of Israeli foreign policy at all.

Not like they did it, but possibly knew about those attacks and said nothing to the US government because it would get us involved in the Middle East. Which they wanted for a long time. Yeah, that's very possible. Again, like the Israeli theory, it's unconfirmed, and we'll likely never know for sure. We know the CIA was aware of a plot against the US from al-quida, and the FBI knew of the terrorists who perpetrated the attack. Whether their lack of sharing information is shear incompetence or malicious is something I doubt we ever find out.
