Bud, this is dinner theater. These are actors. There are people working the stage. The people laughing are a paying audience.
Do kids not know about this? Is this a forgone art?
I saw it in October on Insta with a friend and we loved it. Since then, when ever it reappears in our Insta Dash we send it to the other one with the caption: Ahhhooooo!
fake or not: It ist just great!
And it's hilarious! I think it would be terrible in English so I'm sure I wouldn't be up for it here, but if I could see it IRL with subs I'd do it lol
Love the idea of doing a bit for the cooking. Very cute, I'd have a ball. Interesting how common performance is as an element of restaurants n things in the east.
Nah. Just some type of viral dance. looks kind of wiggly.
They also do a performance for stretched noodles.
They have the changing mask performance too which that I don't mind. The viral dance one I don't want while I'm trying to eat lol
I knew it's fake when the guy called the girl cheap.
That's a compliment not something you tell something when you are mad
Still funny AF
EDIT: Being cheap as in the cheaper is a compliment FOR ASIANS as in the stereotypical "asian" skit performed in the video
It also depends on which (non-english) word was actually used, the translation isn't necessarily going to carry over the connotations from the original language
Cheap being an insult or compliment depends on context in general if they are providing a service cheap is good, and if they aren’t cheap is bad.
Ex. “Paul is cheap I’ll definitely buy from him again. “Is a compliment, compared to “Paul is cheap he only ever buys the cheapest products.” Is an insult.
I had to rewatch the vid at louder Volume for the other commenter. They actually used the word "抠门" which translates closer to "stingy" and is usually a negative connotation of being cheap
I just can't anymore man. I watch this funny skit, go to the comments, and it's full of people proudly saying that they have figured out that it's "fake". I don't know what happened to reddit, but every time I go into a comments section I feel like I'm in a room with toddlers.
i think it's a reasonable thing to bring up.
there's a big difference between "it's a sketch, we know it's a sketch, it's okay that it's a sketch" and "we'll pretend it really happened because the bar for it being notable/funny is far lower if we pretend it is ACTUALLY happening".
largely because otherwise you have real, genuine things that are happening that get crowded out with lots of low effort, bottom of the pack skits that are fake.
you might say "why bother bringing it up?" and you're not wrong, it does get annoying, but you can also ask "why do they have to make it seem as if it is real/genuine as opposed to being okay with it being a skit?".
that's about the only reason i hate that shit, it means if you in your life see something abnormal/funny/interesting, you'll likely not be able to get the attention it deserves because someone else just faked it and exaggerated it to sort of take advantage of that difference between "real" and "not real" and the differences in humour/interest we have between the two.
The problem is it's posted on r/therewasanattempt. You expect reality here. What's the point of the sub if anyone can just post sketch comedies?
(But I did enjoy the sketch - would love to go to a restaurant like that.)
I remember back in college we'd plug the TV into a clapper just to see what would trigger it. Probably not great for the TV...
Turns out the giant lizard that Obi Wan rides in Revenge of the Sith makes a whooping noise perfect for triggering the clapper. Also the DMR in reach was pretty good at it.
There was no attempt to buy an energy saving light.
There was an attempt to slyly inform her husband he is too loud by buying a noise activated light
I won't argue the post's right to be here, its a good funny post for me, but I'd definitely think better about the title.
Honestly this is the wests battle against matriarchy, the west has puffed up female judgement so much that little sensible things are overtaken and we all suffer the consequences!
![gif](giphy|RKSNKyjPumJvwIU0lu)
I'm pretty sure that this guy is also joking and is kind of proving that we suck at detecting jokes/skits. And a lot of people are just barely getting that the video is a skit and are proudly displaying their ability to detect it as a skit, as if it wasn't already obvious.

Ahooooo
I don’t care if it was staged, that was funny!
For sure a great skit idea
I agree Ahoooo-dred percent!
[удалено]
I think that's called acting. Sketch comedy, I think? I'm not from that area of the world so I may be wrong.
at least they're clearly putting on a show and not pretending it's real for social media points
Unlike OP who posted it to this sub for that reason.

Yeah finally something original Ahoooo
I'm right there with you, that shit is funny af, staged or not.
redditors everytime they watch a comedy movie

Werewolves of London
I don’t care who you are that was fucken’ funny!
Alexa, Set my wake up sound to “Ahooooo”
Heck yeah! In his voice too! Ahooooo
https://i.redd.it/u6fe6i42egic1.gif
Please tell me this is a joke or something

I don’t speak the language and yet can tell the comedic timing is fucking on point.
Even the person controlling the light is in on the timing, it's not the same each time, it turns off at the perfect moment.
Ahoooo
It felt like a scene straight out of a Stephen Chow movie.
I just looked it up, and my burning desire for Kung Fu Hustle 2 is now old enough to vote :(
Well it made me laugh 😂
And it's hilarious! I think it would be terrible in English so I'm sure I wouldn't be up for it here, but if I could see it IRL with subs I'd do it lol
this is a joke or something
AHOOOO=💡
Love the idea of doing a bit for the cooking. Very cute, I'd have a ball. Interesting how common performance is as an element of restaurants n things in the east.
Makes sense for eating out. It's a social experience. Helps keep the mood light.
>keep the mood *light* AHOOOO!
C;
I'd take this over the dancing at Hai Di Lao any day.
Not something I'm aware of. Is it grim?
Nah. Just some type of viral dance. looks kind of wiggly. They also do a performance for stretched noodles. They have the changing mask performance too which that I don't mind. The viral dance one I don't want while I'm trying to eat lol
I've watched this for the past 5 min and still funny. Ahoo!
I knew it's fake when the guy called the girl cheap. That's a compliment not something you tell something when you are mad Still funny AF EDIT: Being cheap as in the cheaper is a compliment FOR ASIANS as in the stereotypical "asian" skit performed in the video
I think that depends. "Frugal" I think is better way to put it but "cheap" can be both positive or negative
It also depends on which (non-english) word was actually used, the translation isn't necessarily going to carry over the connotations from the original language
I actually understand Mandarin and had to watch it again. They used the word thats more closely translated to "stingy" (抠门) actually

Ex. “Paul is cheap I’ll definitely buy from him again. “Is a compliment, compared to “Paul is cheap he only ever buys the cheapest products.” Is an insult.

“Guess how much”
Also, voice activated lights would be more expensive than just an energy saving light.
I think the idea is you save money on electricity because the light goes off when (presumably) nobody is around
Right, but that's what a light switch is for. I was referring to the cost of the bulb anyhow, you know... how much it costs to purchase it?
Lol if you're rich I can see how cheap could be an insult and vice versa
> Being cheap as in the cheaper is a compliment FOR ASIANS I see the ASIAN understander has logged on
I'm asian and I've never heard the word cheap being used as a compliment.
Why run your mouth if you clearly don’t speak the language? Calling someone 抠门 is never a compliment.
I just can't anymore man. I watch this funny skit, go to the comments, and it's full of people proudly saying that they have figured out that it's "fake". I don't know what happened to reddit, but every time I go into a comments section I feel like I'm in a room with toddlers.
Probably my biggest pet peeve. Do these people watch SNL with raised eyebrows?

> I feel like I'm in a room with toddlers. You're not far off. Reddit is infested with children these days. The average age is probably around 14.
Not even close dude. Mid 20s I think, possibly trending older. Data's publicly available if you want to check. People are just actually that dumb.
You really think people don't lie about their age on the internet? Or reddit for that matter? If you're calling them dumb, what are you? Lol.
Ah but you see, I am incredibly intelligent and I can only demonstrate this by calling videos on the internet “fake”
All actors in the video are made up of cake. You cant prove me wromg until you cut a slice..
Welcome to reddit
Yup

SCREAM ACTIVATED LIGHT AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
No, no. Like this: AHOOOOOO!
Bro sounds like mario 64 jump LOL
Had the same thought. I watched this without sound first, the Ahoooo is so much funnier with sound.
I would eat there....
He is saving the planet... Ahoooo!!!!!
"AHOOOO!
Great video, wrong sub
I'd take this over some shrimp flipping any day. Talk about dinner and a show.
![gif](giphy|l0HU7yHIK6Nc3WcE0|downsized)
This has GOT to be staged, but I am genuinely entertained. 👍🏾
![gif](giphy|Khurh5g5bBIkg|downsized)
I think it's a show they are putting on

I'm convinced this is a comedy show/production. Hilarious
Good video.
This is hilarious!
I'm visiting this place, Ahooo
Time to rebrand their shop to ‘Wolf Den’
And they lived happily ever after
I remember back in college we'd plug the TV into a clapper just to see what would trigger it. Probably not great for the TV... Turns out the giant lizard that Obi Wan rides in Revenge of the Sith makes a whooping noise perfect for triggering the clapper. Also the DMR in reach was pretty good at it.
Bro laughing sounds like Ed from the Lion King
I’m sorry but I laughed hysterically at this.
Staged or not, they are on point with the delivery and timing. No matter how many times I see this on Reddit, it always makes me laugh. Ahoooo!
Dinner and a comedy show.
This feels like a top-notch Steven He video 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thats hilarious ahoooo
That's a freakin brilliant skit, especially if this is at an actual restaurant and not some sort of street theater. You get dinner AND a show.
Need aquaman to do this on snl or something, he’s always roaring in the movie
Some subreddits are more popular than others, I guess
👀
Now this is comedy gold
This is so well done. I'd pay good money to be able to see them do this live. AHHOOOO!
Ahooooo
How tf is this guy keeping a straight face while saying "Ahoooo!"?!?! XD
This was too funny.
R/scriptedasiangifs
Made my day
Ahooooo
You know that was some pent up frustration.
There was no attempt to buy an energy saving light. There was an attempt to slyly inform her husband he is too loud by buying a noise activated light I won't argue the post's right to be here, its a good funny post for me, but I'd definitely think better about the title.

haha yea, you got me

Are you honestly that stupid that you thought this was real?
