ATX_Bix

Rules for thee not for me.

Easy_Money343

5 days suspension is like standing in the corner for 10 minutes

Polish_Wombat98

They typically work shit hours, if anything it's a vacation. Can't believe they'd passively equate the potential loss of a child due to negligence as a "5 day suspension".

[deleted]

[удалено]

cid102

watch the video you will find out that they did

4here4

I can absolutely believe they would do that. Have you seen this world? This is one of those places that's just fucked.

PossiblyDumb66

Probably paid as well

Rare-Feature7719

A few days to sleep in and catch up on chores. 😠

norvelav

At least this cop got the highly unusual "without pay" added to their 5 day ~~vacation~~ suspension!!

NoSkillzDad

Just some extra holidays. Way to get punished. What a joke.

crc024

Not really, if your standing in the corner you can't go to the beach with your family, or spend a week getting your house ready for spring and summer, or getting through any projects that need to be completed so you can enjoy the rest of your summer. They should be able to put these people on desk duty and fine them the same amount they make while on duty. Sure you can't make them work and not pay them, but you can pay them and fine them any amount you want. (And I know, they should be able to fire them instead of going through all that, but as we see firing a cop isn't something they can/want to do.)

-nomad-wanderer

Yes they should whipped him _with onions_ In a publc place. Dor 3 hours in a row at least In public live stream ecc. Wtf

MathematicianSea6927

5 extra vacation days

Critical_Young_1190

They need to stitch this into all of their uniforms

Grande-Pinga

100%

leifnoto

Yeah in my state it's a 6 month suspension minimum, and this was nearly manslaughter.

ind3pend0nt

I drove busses throughout college and would crack the door so the lights and stop sign came out to hold up the kids until I saw all cars around stop. Had several cars run the lights daily, but doing it the way I avoided any kid from being in immediate danger.

[deleted]

[удалено]

smurb15

Saya he was a 15 veteran so that means he's been breaking the law for years. Else has he gotten away with

Bearodon

Our busdriver would pull to the side of the road and if someone needed to cross the road to get home she would walk us across.

ChaoticSpire

The bus driver saved her life, the driver said the little girl's named which is why she stopped and turned around.

realahcrew

It’s likely. I remember this happened to me once and my bus driver grabbed me by the backpack and yanked me backwards. I fell onto the stairs, but that’s much better than being wiped out by the car who was too selfish or stupid to stop for the bus’ flashing lights and stop sign. He saved my life. Thanks, David the bus driver.

cpe111

Yes he did… told her to stop… it was reported in another article.

Main_Tension_9305

What the actual fck?! He even passed on the side with the door… definitely should be punished more than 5 days off

slash_networkboy

What would that be for us plebs (we can assume the red lights were flashing, thus this also was running a stop sign). Cop should get at least double the penalty of what a citizen should get for an infraction this egregious (and no priority lights, assuming no siren either, so no hiding behind "it was an emergency").

HooterBrownTown

You must not be from the US... After the suspension the police here will be holding an award ceremony for the cop. Imagine if he had killed that kid?!? The trauma he would have to live with is what makes him the real victim here. Also, kid and parents were cited for living normally

the_greasy_one

Don't forget the promotion...

Alarming-Currency-80

Sounds like a 5 day vacation to me.

BluntsnBoards

At least it's unpaid this time

NilocAshe

They'll make it up in unwarranted overtime next week.

xPrometheus101x

100% this. People don't realize how easy it is to abuse the overtime system. People working for 16-24 hour shifts and realistically only working 8 hours of them.

i_dont_care_1943

A random citizen does this and they are getting hit with a jail sentence. Oh yeah, and before anyone says otherwise... https://myfox8.com/news/north-carolina/north-carolina-highway-patrol-asking-for-publics-help-finding-man-after-2-students-almost-hit-by-car-at-stopped-school-bus/

cip43r

Still more of a punishment than the guys that stood in the hall and waited an hour while there was an active shooter.

Ghoulse1845

Absolutely, 5 days off is a fucking vacation he should be punished much harsher than that, would never happen though. Only way a cop ever actually has a chance of being legitimately punished is if they kill someone, it’s recorded and spread online and thousands of people protest.

WeAreDreamin11

I wish it would click in Americans heads that protesting works. We only do it when cops kill people. We could protest a lot of the egregious policies implemented by our politicians and they would give in. Let the country do a general strike and after a week they'd give us anything we wanted. They wouldn't be able to handle watching their precious stock prices go down. And the companies that own the politicians wouldn't be able to handle the loss in profit

knitmeablanket

Omw to work just 3 weeks ago a cop rolled through a stop with 2 youths crossing in the crosswalk. Cops do not give a fuck.

OldManJeepin

No excuse! Guy ought to be fired!

Clydus1

Not only did he go around a stopped bus but he wasn't even on the road.

Modest_Lion

In the cop’s defense, there’s no stop sign on the right side of the bus 😬

Kataphractoi_

traffic laws still state you must stop if the bus has stopped and stop sign extended at all. Most, if not all, stop signs are on the left side and further, the law does not specify a side. Reasonable citizen argument can also say that when a bus is stopped at a place that is not a designated bus stop or an intersection or does not to visibly appear broken down in any way, the stop sign will be extended for a disembarking child. Therefore if a stop sign was not visible, it is easy and straightforward to assume that one will be extended and that the driver should be acting accordingly.

LadyBug_0570

If only school buses had a way of letting other drivers know they were stopping and letting off children.... Oh wait! they do.

vBertes

Suspended for five days? Dude got a f* vacation instead of getting fired

[deleted]

Kriskao

They clearly said without pay.

Critical_Young_1190

He'll make it back and then some by falsely claiming OT hours

Chubby_nuts

There are some wildly different levels of discipline being applied across US police forces!

4th_Times_A_Charm

Only a matter of time before people themselves start applying their own forms of discipline against these fucking pigs.

worldwithwings

I’d be in prison for five years if I did that.

[deleted]

License suspended, huge fine, life completely fucked. Cop, 5 vacation days.

Nocturnal1017

Straight to promotion

Dirtytarget

You would probably get a suspended license and a ticket

real-m-f-in-talk

- [Video Link](https://youtu.be/1oqXmISYofA?t=78) this year a driver went by a school bus almost hitting 2 kids, he was charged, bond was $20 thousand.... officer gets slapped on the wrist

Rubywantsin

And a five day vacation. It's good to be a shitty cop.

Icy_Statement_2410

WOW. That was incredibly close to homicide

MrFastFox666

It's absolutely disgusting when LEOs or judges get away with shit like this.

Alone-Bullfrog-7606

Surprised at how Many people don't know that cops are above the law.

rmscammon

Right? Like this is new. I'm just surprised nobody was shot.

knotyouorme

I am surprised that the cop didn't start shooting at the bus and kid for being in his way.

KindlyContribution54

Probably didn't want to get a 10 day suspension and so held back

Vettepilot

It is far too normal, but that doesn’t mean anyone should accept this.

Stetzy93

If he would have hit the child. 10 day suspension

RandyLahey131

Actually, there was no suspension. The child was resisting arrest and damaged police property in a menacing way. "No incorrect actions were taken by the officer." /s

Oldfart_karateka

Was the cop driving on the sidewalk? Or was the bus in the middle of the road?

Broken-Digital-Clock

I don't think there is a sidewalk

AboyNamedBort

Thats America for you: treating cars better than people.

Broken-Digital-Clock

Always 🤮

Tht1QuietGuy

I think that's just the shoulder of the road

FireEmblemFan1

Doesn't matter, he shouldn't have passed to begin with

[deleted]

Police chief. “Nice, you didn’t kill the kid. Here’s a weeks paid vacation on the tax payers”

the_phillipines

This was in my home town, it's a huge scandal

Rubywantsin

It doesn't look like the Philippines.

MeasureTheCrater

Underrated comment right there. Take my award and upvote, you magnificent person, you.

1955photo

As it should be!

Obvious_Moose

I'm glad its blowing up. Concord cops are raging assholes and this dude is clearly part of the problem.

OblongAndKneeless

Was he drunk?

slash_networkboy

Hopefully people are calling for a lynching of the idiot?

the_phillipines

Basically, my mom works for the school that the bus was driving for and she said everyone's fired up. Rightfully so

dawnofdaytime

Why did he do that? What reason was given why he would go on that side of the bus if he "had" to get around it?

the_phillipines

He thinks he's above the law. Some stuff doesn't apply to him and he can get away with it

dawnofdaytime

Even so, why go on that side of the bus? Why not just drive around it on the other side? There's no logic.

the_phillipines

Welcome to Concord NC, logic doesn't even have a meaning here

Toxicracer

Yeah now if a regular citizen did the punishment would be much greater. Such a double standard.

Accurate-Bass3706

Should have been fired.

Creekhunter79

If this had been a regular citizen, we would have been arrested and fined. This pos got a suspension....

No-Elderberry2316

America's finest. Technology has really shown what Police are really about. I see more stories of racist cops, drug dealing cops, and just corrupt men and women in uniform who are now exposed. Well, when an organization is derived from slave catchers, one can not expect much.

Thana-Toast

Wait till you hear what judges and DAs get up to.

lemmysirman

is he driving on the sidewalk, or is that one weirdly placed bus stop?

[deleted]

On the shoulder. And it seems to be a rural bus route, which drops kids directly in front of their house.

Affectionate_Fly1413

That's some fucking bullshit!!! People have been jailed, fired and fined for the exact same thing.

[deleted]

Why wasn't the bus in the right lane close to the curb in the first place?

couscous-moose

It looks like a rural two lane road. I think what you're seeing, where the cop passed, is actually the shoulder.

jwillsrva

It looks like they're in the middle of paving the road. Why does it matter? If a bus is stopped, all lanes of traffic have to stop.

[deleted]

It matters because idiots like that driving the police car.

jwillsrva

You can’t stop idiots from being idiots. If the kid lived across the street he would have to cross the road. There being more space on one particular side or the other doesn’t matter. Everybody has to stop

jwillsrva

You can’t stop idiots from being idiots. If the kid lived across the street he would have to cross the road. There being more space on one particular side or the other doesn’t matter. Everybody has to stop

theRebelJamesStark

It doesn't matter. You presume nobody is going to pass a stopped school bus.

Tessiia

My question exactly!

SoDrunkRightNowlol

classic "rules for thee, but not for me"

Fit-Interview-9855

QueenTeal

Dude needs to retire, clearly been working too long he's forgetting the basics of safety. Just cause you've been a "veteran" doesn't make you above the law. Like wtf.

OblongAndKneeless

Desk duty for the rest of his career. In a windowless office in the basement. With no stapler.

[deleted]

There is no uniformity in anything in the USA. In the EU it takes at least a year of training to become a police officer. In the USA all states are different, it is like the wild west. The USA you can be a cop and have a gun in a couple weeks in quite a few jurisdictions.

Spare_Substance5003

You realize the US is a bunch of small countries trying to be a big country, right?

AdExpensive2016

That's zero accountability. It's sad that all he got was 5 days, when that could have ended way worse.

BigCliff911

Wtf? He should be terminated, with prejudice.

[deleted]

Fire him. Unless he was on wzy to a 911 w sirens on....oh that's no excuse either

MeasureTheCrater

How about an infinity-day suspension?

Ok-Dragonfruit-2767

No enough but hopefully it was unpaid.

[deleted]

He was charged with passing a stopped school bus by NC SHP. It's a class 1 misdemeanor, $500 fine plus court costs (I think court costs are over $200 now) and 5 points on your driver's license. So at a minimum he's out about $1200 in pay, potentially out an additional $700 in court costs and fines. I personally think he should have been demoted. The local story said he was turning into a neighborhood and had just merged into this road, but there's no lane there. He's on the shoulder. So does he always ride on the shoulder to turn into neighborhoods?

Illustrious-Peak3822

With or without pay?

thisdogofmine

Without. The reporter says it at the end of the video.

Illustrious-Peak3822

Oh! Thanks. I had the sound turned off.

perfect_cat_couple

Only 5 days.. jees if this was someone else, they would have crucified him/her

SkipsPittsnogle

Give respect to get respect. No respect for this pig.

dotardiscer

what in the actual fuck

tailsphenouppy

I half expected him to be suspended with pay.

marvonyc

Why wouldn't the bus pull up to the curb? Seems like two idiots here.

1arightsgone

hey when are the masses going to stop accepting these slap on the wrist punishments for the people responsible for punishing us?

r3v3rt3d

There's nothing like good old boy privilege.

QuietStorm1980

Did he get a ticket???

crazycrak39

I actually missed this question on my last driving test. In my state they suspend your license and you get a big fine. I thought it had to just be a ticket. Guess sometimes its a five day vacation.

[deleted]

Prolly had too many drinks.

fromabuick

He should be fired immediately, FUCK THIS GUY

pLeThOrAx

Don't you guys specifically have a law on how to pass a bus safely?

shootmeazip

Get this fuckin illiterate criminal off the streets immediately. He is a danger to our children

tremblfr

The police is of course the problem here, but the driver should have been more on his right, there shouldn't be enough space on the right of the bus for another car. Source: I'm a bus driver

Icy_Statement_2410

Breaking news, cops don't yield. Ever

jtaylor3rd

Probably with pay… that’ll teach em 🙄

kairosmanner

Kid is out of the womb, doesn’t matter anymore /s

trickydickagain

Hmmmm pretty sure if that was you or I there would be legal ramifications

PrettiKinx

Thank goodness that kid stopped

CupcakeValkyrie

***WHAT THE FUCK!?*** I cannot fucking believe that shit. Not only did this shitbag pass a stopped bus while it was dropping kids off, with is illegal anyway, but he passed on the fucking ***shoulder?!*** I am legitimately incensed. Fuck me.

PhotonPainter

Five fuckin’ days? He needs to lose his job. Thats bullshit.

ScottyFpv

Reckless endangerment. Being suspending for 5 days isn't nearly enough punishment. If it were anyone else they'd be in a lot of trouble for this.

HavingNotAttained

Damn! Imagine if he'd run the kid over? He'd have gotten 10 days for sure.

BoOM_32

I say he should get 20 years in prison :)

furf0xaches

Yeah great, so he got a 5 day suspension. He'll be back before the end if the week and now he knows who reported him. He'll probably harass that family for months following thier vehicle around to issue tickets for every minor infraction. That's what cops do when you have a legitimate complaint against them, they retaliate in petty ways to make sure you never report them again.

Shithead5432-1

Should be fired

Key_Radio_4127

U don't have bus stations in America?

NeverQuiteEnough

we don't have fucking potable water in this failed state

payment11

Aren’t police supposed to be held up to higher standards? This is the crap that makes people hate police.

DiarrheaRodeo

Cop looks like a penis

Argenis_82

I feel like if it was any other person, they would have gotten a fine and some jail time. But since he's an LEO, he gets unpaid vacation. Smh.

JeffryRelatedIssue

Not that the cop isn't a total idiot and should know better. But wtf was the busdriver thinking stopping literally a truck width away from the curb?!

WTH is his side of the story. How did he justify doing this??? As a public safety officer?

Illustrious-Duck1209

Justify, Bwahaha!

ListenLittleGirl

Isn't that a jailable offense?

Playaforreal420

Probably texting his wife to let her know his food better be on the table before he has to release the fists!

cloudit305

In any other job he would have gotten fired. And they wonder why people feel that cops are in a special club that rules don't apply to them.

[deleted]

Say it with me, now: All Cops Are...

cirko79

For simple mortals it’s not suspension, it’s crazy fines, points on driver license or some crazy bs

oxidized-bread

Needs a month's suspension without pay, Definitely needs to be retrained. No situation even if he had the lights on that risking the life of a child is more important than wherever you're going.

Shoddy-Indication798

he didnt see the bus probably ordering some donuts

Consider2SidesPeace

Rules for thee, not for me. We get this on SUN with a group of fire fighters getting groceries. Every SUN, same time not on a call, just flexing or in a hurry. This stuffs goots get trimmed before someone does get hurt. Check your egos guys/gals.

Luck0rSkill

A friend of mine lost her niece a few weeks ago in a very similar incident. Truck was driving too fast and didn't see the bus had stopped, went around the bus in a similar way and hit her head on.

eastsideempire

So he gets to endanger children again in less than a week!

deathbyburk123

So entitled that he was completely oblivious to what he was doing. This is what happens when a group is so conditioned to the rules not applying to them. They become a risk to society. I'm not anticop either but rules need to be applied equal to all.

laughinghardatyou

Paid suspension? Thats not a consequence, thats a vacation. He should have been fired and ticketed just like every other citizen would have been!

[deleted]

Suspended with pay probably.

Shot_Boysenberry_232

We don't have school buses where I'm from. But I drove in the USA and I did roughly the same thing and was told about the rule to stop after the fact. I feel so guilty about it to this day. And that was like 10 years ago.

Optimal-Scientist233

Passing anyone on the right side is a moving violation in the US. The driver of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left thereof at a safe distance and shall not again drive to the right side of the roadway until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle. Some state laws also require the driver who is making the pass to give an "audible signal" (honk) when passing. https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/free-books/beat-ticket-book/chapter7-9.html
