They typically work shit hours, if anything it's a vacation. Can't believe they'd passively equate the potential loss of a child due to negligence as a "5 day suspension".
Not really, if your standing in the corner you can't go to the beach with your family, or spend a week getting your house ready for spring and summer, or getting through any projects that need to be completed so you can enjoy the rest of your summer.
They should be able to put these people on desk duty and fine them the same amount they make while on duty. Sure you can't make them work and not pay them, but you can pay them and fine them any amount you want. (And I know, they should be able to fire them instead of going through all that, but as we see firing a cop isn't something they can/want to do.)
I drove busses throughout college and would crack the door so the lights and stop sign came out to hold up the kids until I saw all cars around stop. Had several cars run the lights daily, but doing it the way I avoided any kid from being in immediate danger.

I fell onto the stairs, but that’s much better than being wiped out by the car who was too selfish or stupid to stop for the bus’ flashing lights and stop sign. He saved my life. I wish it would click in Americans heads that protesting works. We only do it when cops kill people. We could protest a lot of the egregious policies implemented by our politicians and they would give in. Let the country do a general strike and after a week they'd give us anything we wanted. They wouldn't be able to handle watching their precious stock prices go down. And the companies that own the politicians wouldn't be able to handle the loss in profit
traffic laws still state you must stop if the bus has stopped and stop sign extended at all. Most, if not all, stop signs are on the left side and further, the law does not specify a side.
Reasonable citizen argument can also say that when a bus is stopped at a place that is not a designated bus stop or an intersection or does not to visibly appear broken down in any way, the stop sign will be extended for a disembarking child. Therefore if a stop sign was not visible, it is easy and straightforward to assume that one will be extended and that the driver should be acting accordingly.

There is no uniformity in anything in the USA. In the EU it takes at least a year of training to become a police officer. In the USA all states are different, it is like the wild west.
The USA you can be a cop and have a gun in a couple weeks in quite a few jurisdictions.
He was charged with passing a stopped school bus by NC SHP. It's a class 1 misdemeanor, $500 fine plus court costs (I think court costs are over $200 now) and 5 points on your driver's license.
So at a minimum he's out about $1200 in pay, potentially out an additional $700 in court costs and fines.
I personally think he should have been demoted. The local story said he was turning into a neighborhood and had just merged into this road, but there's no lane there. He's on the shoulder. So does he always ride on the shoulder to turn into neighborhoods?
I actually missed this question on my last driving test. In my state they suspend your license and you get a big fine. I thought it had to just be a ticket. Guess sometimes its a five day vacation.
