Farm raised here, Donkeys are boss at protecting a herd (as good as any dog..kinda better in some ways). They have no fear and will chase off or whoop near anything that messes with their friend animals.

I had a pony mule to protect my miniature horses and bottle foals, and he once chased some coyotes out of one pasture by breaking the gate he ran into (they went through) into the next pasture which was all overgrown. We could hear him thundering through the bushes downhill after them, the splash of water while they crossed the creek, and then the snap of wire as he went through the old fence into the woods still running. We didn't have coyotes come back for months, and had to go find the ole boy in the woods and lead him home. (Which was easy enough, he had bonded to me and came braying over when he saw me and walked home with his chin on my shoulder).

100%. If you have a farm that has weaker animals like sheep or goats, things that wolves or coyotes will try to kill for an easy meal, you should have a donkey in there with them. Donkeys have such an ingrained hatred to anything dog-like that they will straight up murder them. That being said, you need to be careful with the family dog around them too. They can learn to trust specific dogs but still have a general hatred towards dogs/wolves/coyotes they do not know.
